Maybe the concept of disc that holds more then 30 gigs of HD content is foreign to you, being an HD-DVD enthusiast and all, but Blu Ray has movies out that are printed on 50 gig, try fitting all that on your combo disc. :o

...you mean like what's on "300"?? It's a 50GB Blu-ray disc, and a 30GB/9GB HD DVD combo disc. ;)

Except that that player will be obsolete come November...

Oh come on now, I love HD-DVD as much as the next guy, but the current Blu-Ray Players will not be obsolete. If you are like me and only care about the main feature, not the extras, then any current player will work and will not be obsolete. You will still be able to play movies on these players so the only thing you may not be able to do is play the extras which I could care less for. I have only watched the extras on like 2 dvd's out of my 400+ DVD collection, other than that I have skipped all extras on the rest of my DVD's. Just give me the movie in high def with either pcm sound or Dolby TrueHD.

See, that's where we're different then.

I absolutely love the extras. After all, if I just wanted the movie, why not just download them? The extras are what add more bang to your buck. And for people like me who are curious to see how some movies are made or what went into their creation, these type of things are great! Especially when the movies are ones that had ground-breaking effects, stories, or whatnot...like "300" or "The Matrix".

When Blu-ray discs start coming out using the features that require those that won't be available to the current players that are out now, people are going to be very very upset when they find out that all those features listed on the back of the boxes aren't accessible because their players cannot play them.

I'm from Greece. Is there going to be a price cut in Europe too? If so, then yeah...I will wait.

Most likely in all regions. Sony finally had the balls to say that the Playstation 3 cost way to f**king much and no one wants to buy a $600.00 video game machine, even if it does have a bigger hard drive and a more advanced DVD player.

I honestly didn't mind the price for the PS3 when I bought it considering all it does. The only thing that pissed me off was the exclusion of the HDMI cable. For all that money it should have been included.

Small update for Germany (from Media Control/GfK):
Sold discs since the beginning of 2007:

Blu Ray 62,000 (of which 57,000 have been sold since the PS3 launch)
HD DVD 34,000 (of which 18,000 have been sold since the PS3 launch)

Revenue roughly 2m (Blu Ray) vs. 1m (HD DVD).

Total available films so far: 115 (Blu Ray), HD DVD 101.

No numbers for last year unfortunately, but Blu Ray's lead should be pretty comfortable overall (both Blu Ray and HD DVD were only available from ~the end of November on in Germany).

Like ~4-8,000 HD DVDs vs. ~1-2,000 Blu Ray discs were sold back then.

HD Movie Sales For June 2007 - UK

In fairness, HMV is just one store amongst many here in the UK, but it does show a winning trend for Blu-Ray.

So what is the scene look like over the pond as for HDDVD and Bluray?

How far from Darby are you? I had a friend from there.

I work at a Circuit City, and we usually get our ads for the next week in around the start of the previous week, so I should be able to confirm this very early next week. Possibly even Sunday.
10-4. Thanks.

Starz/Anchor Bay has revealed new specs for its debut Blu-ray release 'Masters of Horror,' and has also provided a sneak peek at its planned launch wave of horror classics due this fall.

As first announced two weeks ago, Anchor Bay (aka Starz Home Entertainment) plans to debut its first-ever next-gen title with the Blu-ray exclusive release of 'Masters of Horror.'

Among the further details announced today, the company says 'Masters of Horror' will be packaged as a 'Complete First Season' box set this September (exact street date TBA).

Though final specs are still pending, word from the distributor is to expect a four-disc set of BD-50 dual-layer discs, featuring 1080p transfers, uncompressed PCM 5.1 audio and, if not identical supplements to the standard-def DVD, then "comparable extras."

Just as exciting, Starz has also sent us confirmation that they plan to debut three to four additional titles by the end of October, culled from their impressive library of horror classics. Among this first wave of Blu-ray titles will be John Carpenter's seminal 'Halloween,' plus installments of Sam Raimi's 'Evil Dead' series and George A. Romero's zombie pantheon (which includes 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Day of the Dead').

Starz/Anchor Bay has not yet announced pricing details for its debut titles but stay tuned.

Each of the titles will be distributed under the MGM Home Entertainment banner, and in keeping with MGM's current Blu-ray exclusivity, none will be released to HD DVD at this time.

We've added all of the above titles to the "Release Dates Pending" section of our Blu-ray Release Schedule, in anticipation of a full and official announcement. We'll keep you posted!

that site is very legit as I always go on it. If they say its in the CC ad, then it is

So 500 dollars for pretty much the best Blu Ray player out there that's also a good gaming console + 5 free movies with the limited time offer. That's a pretty good deal.

Yeah, he does. Sorry to break it to you.

If you want to cry on my shoulder, I always have an open spot. :)

The advertising group who did some on Sony's PS3 commercials will be doing some Blu Ray commercials?

Sharp Electronics has announced it will release its first Blu-ray disc player in time for the holiday season.

Dubbed the BD-HP205, thus far Sharp has released only preliminary specs for the deck, which is due by late fall.

Expect 1080p output capability at both 24fps and 60fps, plus in-board Dolby TrueHD decoding.

The player is also slated to fully support HDMI v1.3, and includes analog 5.1 outputs as well.

Sharp is also touting a new 'Quick Start' feature, which will load a disc mere seconds after being inserted into the tray. This is likely to be viewed as a welcome addition by early adopters, as currently load times on Blu-ray (and HD DVD) players tend to be frustratingly slow.

The manufacturer has not yet announced an exact street or pricing for the BD-HP205, but we'll keep you posted. Watch this space!
