Happy to see that The Office Season 5 will be coming to Blu-Ray this year

Hmm..well I think I've had better results with DTS-HDMA mixes than Dolby TrueHD in general

Well its a weird debate to have. Because I was always under the impression lossless is lossless it is just different ways of decoding the audio. Someone did bring to my attention though that DTS-HDMA would be more of a space saver though. They way I understand it is that both codecs can sound amazing but with Dolby TrueHD the studios have to include a completely separate Dolby Digital track while with DTS-HDMA a lossy track can be taken straight from that. It isn't a huge amount of space to be saved but hey the more space free the better as long as I am still getting lossless audio.

Yes it's a weird argument, and of course I posted that after watching Punisher: War Zone so who knows. I don't know, in my experiences Dolby TrueHD seems to sound a little...softer than the DTS-HDMA tracks I've heard. That of course can all be due to the studios, not the codec themselves.

I know what you are saying with The Dark Knight I have to turn the volume up higher than I would on lets say The Incredible Hulk. But both are demo material despite the different volume setting. I guess in that sense it can cause confusion so it would be nice if the studios can decide on just one lossless codec no matter which it is as long as it is lossless.

DVD Planet offers better pricing on DVD's I think. But, their prices on Blu-ray's are usually more expensive. lol.

I thought season 5 was pretty solid, and the Michael Scott Paper Company was a fantastic story arc for Michael, so...I will put it ahead of season 4

BD Sales Information for Week Ending May 24 (Updated)
According to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, 'Valkyrie' was the top-selling title on Blu-ray in the US for the week ended May 24. Second place was for 'Taken', the top-selling title the week before. 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop', despite winning easily on the overall DVD/Blu-ray charts, only managed third place in Blu-ray, outsold by 'Valkyrie' by nearly 2 to 1. 'My Bloody Valentine 3D' got number 4.

Here is the Blu-ray top 10:

1. Valkyrie
2. Taken
3. Paul Blart: Mall Cop
4. My Bloody Valentine 3D
5. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
6. True Blood: The Complete First Season
7. A Bug's Life
8. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
9. 24: Season 7
10. Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection

As regards market share, the highest BD ratios for new releases of the week were for 'My Bloody Valentine 3D' and 'Valkyrie', which got 21% and 20%, respectively. TV series '24: Season 7' and 'True Blood: The Complete First Season' grabbed 15% and 14%, whereas 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' got only 7%.

Update

Home Media Magazine has now published the already-familiar pie chart comparing aggregate unit sales of the top 20 BDs versus the top 20 DVDs. The split for this week is 14% BD: 86% DVD.

Total revenue from BD sales was $20.92 million, up 119.47% from the same week last year. DVD revenue was $178.53 million, down 13.10% year-on-year.

BD accounted for 10.5% of total packaged-media sales revenue.

The season started off strong but quickly fell apart after the hour long Superbowl episode. It lacked focus after and I didnt find it all that funny. The Andy/Angela/Dwight was the highlight here which they ended abruptely. Out of the 5 seasons, overall, it was definetly the weakest.

Friday, Menace II Society, Set It Off Heading to Blu-ray
Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring three "urban titles" to Blu-ray on September 8th, including 'Friday: Deluxe Edition', 'Set It Off: Deluxe Edition', and 'Menace II Society: Deluxe Edition'. All three titles will be presented in 1080p AVC with 'Friday' receiving a newly remixed 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, and the other two receiving 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.

Extras features have not been announced in full, though we do know that 'Friday' will include a new 30-minute vignette entitled “Friday Straight Up” plus music videos from Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. 'Set It Off' will include a new 30-minute featurette “Setting it Straight: Making of Set It Off” and Ray J's “Let It Go” music video while 'Menace II Society' will include and new commentary by directors Allen and Albert Hughes, producer Darin Scott, screenwriter Tyger Williams, actor Tate and rapper Ryan Williams.

New research has shown that black consumers represent 12% of the Blu-ray market compared to only 6% of the DVD market, meaning they are taking an increasing interest in the high definition format. Warner hopes that by offering these titles, they can capitalize on that increasing market share.

Two Girls and a Guy Being Preped for Blu-ray

According to a new interview with writer/director James Toback - and retailer listings of the title - his 1997 film 'Two Girls and a Guy' will be coming to Blu-ray in a few months via 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. as a bachelor with two girlfriends played by Heather Graham and Natasha Gregson Wagner.

No special features have been announced at this time. While no technical specs have been announced, you can expect a 1080p AVC video encode accompanied by a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

James Toback is also the writer of the film 'Tyson' (which documents the life of Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson), a film that will likely be announced for US release soon.

And while we're talking Warner, we wanted to bring your attention to an interesting Amazon-exclusive: The forthcoming Watchmen Blu-ray packed in a replica of the Owl Ship from the film. SRP is $119.99, but Amazon has it for just $83.99. Pretty cool. Here's what it looks like...

The owlship is cool, I like it better than the Batpod TDK Blu-Ray edition, and better than the face cases some DVDs have gotten, but I'll stick to the standard case as always.

Deal alert...I, Robot on Amazon.com for $12.99 which I don't expect to last long. Free shipping though only on orders of $25 or more.

I picked up Cat People(remake), Dawn of the Dead (remake), and Army of Darkness on HD-DVD fire sale for $4 each. Tough to argue the prices when it's basically the cost of a one-time rental fee, so the value will be gotten easily with several viewings...not to mention that many of the HD-DVD titles getting ported over to Blu-Ray are using the same exact transfers.

So, choosing between paying $4 or $20 for the exact same title? Hmmmmmmm....

Picked that up a couple of days ago at that price. Also picked up Dark City (blind buy) at that price.

Well a few things to point out...

1. I think you are one of the few people to actually buy Cat People in the first place...lol. Seems like a really odd choice that this was one of the release options from Universal in the thick of the format war. People weren't exactly clamoring for this one. It's not a shock it hasn't been re-issued on Blu-ray the sales of it probably were very poor on HD-DVD. So $4 sounds right for this title on any format. :oldrazz:

2. I don't know if Army of Darkness will be a direct port. It was released on a measly 15GB HD-DVD and received poor reviews. The audio will obviously be an upgrade to lossless and Universal might re-encode this one for a 25GB or 50GB Blu-ray so it may actually come out looking better.

3. As far as Dawn of the Dead goes I am pretty sure its identical so no problems there.

But also it is a matter of convenience. Isn't it much simpler having one player and one format (one thats still alive and kicking) to own instead of having to deal with 2?
