The Fountain

Yeah, that is a possibility. But most people this weekend will say they didn't get it. And move on to Happy Feet, Casino Royale and Deck the Halls. ;)
I guess but not getting a movie doesn't mean that it is some underrated lost gem.

I have to say alot of people in the theater were giggling all during several parts of the entire movie, especially the scenes in the bubble which I also found funny and silly. I have a feeling that even if the movie was great it still would have bombed that being said it wasn't great.

Ofcourse that opinion is just mine.

Saw it. Who cares if the message of the film is "nothing new"? What message is? It's shown in a very interesting new way. THE FOUNTAIN is a fantastic, if imperfect film. It's going to go over a lot of people's heads.

That is such a snobbish attitude. "Mere criticism". Like you get something other people don't
Have you seen the film?

Saw it today. WHAT A GREAT MOVIE. I mean it is not new, but it is a topic that is always daunting and importnat to EVERYONE. It is with us all. And the subject is so well done in this movie. I mean it is trippy and prettentious, but it pays off in the end. It all comes together as a visual eulogy to one couple's and all's life. This was truly a powerful beautiful movie.

I understand why the abstract stragness may be a turn off to some, but I thoroughly enjoyed it htough.

Oh surely, I knew this the moment I finished reading the graphic novel eons ago. I take solace in the fact that simply because some people won't understand The Fountain, it takes nothing away from what is actually there, intended or otherwise percieved.

It may be one of these movies that take a while to sink in for most people. For the record, there were lotsa negative reviews towards 2001 when it was initially released.

???
They finished shooting the movie in February 2005 and the world premiere was at the Venice Film Festival on September 4th.

He's talking about A Space Oddessy.

Saw it last night. It was much less new agey than I was led to believe, and outside of a
possible reference to reincarnation
and the lotus position it didn't feel as pushed as Pi.
It's really a movie about how we deal with death, there is no real narrative structure perse as all three stories move foward and share a strong connection, but the ending leaves what connection is very ambiguos. I think this is why it's getting negative reviews, but I honestly feel that it is the films greatest strength. About half way into it I stopped following the timeline/sci-fi plot, it wasn't what was important. Instead I focused on a dream about two people eternally trying to cope with their own mortality
and found myself loving the movie for what it was.

Now I get it if someone doesn't love the movie then they are idiots who let it fly over their head? got it. My opinion was my own, i'm sticking to it and I did get the movie I just didn't love it, didn't hate it either. It was was alright.

the critics didnt really like this movie. i thought it looked good. my friend saw it and he hated it too. For those who have seen it, should i see it or wait for it on dvd?

Nope, nor do I desire to. It looks sort of boring to me. That doesn't change the fact that the entire "people who criticize this movie are so beneath it that their mere criticisms mean nothing and the movie went over their head" attitude is snobbish.

The Fountain is truly one of the best films I've ever seen. Intensely beautiful movie. Darren Aronofski is easily one of the best directors of his generation (I'd personally rank him only behind Chris Nolan and David Fincher).

and damn, I'm in love with Rachel Weisz! :wow:

Best one line review of The Fountain comes from the Hollywood Reporter.

'Shebalba' is probably the greatest word I have ever heard folks.

"THE FOUNTAIN" Review (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!)

So I saw the film last night, and I really did know what to expect from it. I went into the theater thinking I was probably going to get a nice Hugh Jackman action/drama film, with a good (as usual) performance by Rachel Wiesz. I was complete wrong folks...COMPLETELY WRONG!

THE FOUNTAIN is the best film I've seen all year, and probably the greatest drama I have ever seen. It's a story mainly about death, and why it should not be frowned upon but looked up to, we should only enjoy and embrace death, for it is only a matter of time before our loved ones will join us. It's not an action film, and it is note made to look like one, even though it does from some parts of it's trailer. For me, it is a brilliant science fiction tale of one man's eternal search for a "cure to death" as Jackman says in the film. THE FOUNTAIN grabs you from the beginning and thrusts you into a love story of epic proportions. It's very simple to explain really...Jackman tries to save his dying wife Wiesz, only to eventually find out that he'll be with her again, in death. It's a gripping film that is beautiful, one that will make you laugh, cry, and hopefully make you consider the possibility of death not being so bad.

With wonderful performances by Hugh Jackman and Rachel Wiesz, THE FOUNTAIN is a very entertaining and very moving film by a very powerful director, Darren Aronofsky.

4.5/5 Stars

"Xibalba"

I don't think it's simple at all. In fact, it's needlessly complicated. But that's what I loved about it.

You can get it and still not like it, but a lot of people won't get it, and some won't like it because they don't get it.

Saw it today. Pretty good. Ending confused me a bit, but I was able to understand it up to that point.

Powerful performances by Jackman and Weisz.

the greatest drama you've ever seen is only 4.5/5? :csad:

Now I actually want to see it a little less. While I understand the messege that you say the film is trying to convey, I personally believe that it's a load of bull****.

Interesting article/review: http://www.newyorker.com/critics/cinema/articles/061204crci_cinema

When it premièred, at the Venice Film Festival, there were both raves and snorts; for all those viewers who found it preposterous, there were others who melted before this lushly imagined trip. Did it not occur to anyone that both sides could be right?

Anyway, I am still very interested in seeing this film.

Worst Movie I've Ever Seen!!!!!!!!!!!! Sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
