Cast Wes Bentley as a mid-20s Dick Grayson/Nightwing in Bludhaven and you would have something awesome.

They could have characters like Barbara, The Question, Batgirl (Cassandra Caine) etc as the supporting cast.
And someone as badass as Deathstroke for the villian; that'd be insane.

Best of all; they could set up The Titans or Outsiders in Season Two.

Everyone seems to be freakin' out saying how this is going to suck...however the Smallville team has had a show on for 8 seasons and McG is behind this, aka Supernatural...Clearly the CW saw something in the pilot script/treatment that is exciting and will be exciting. I mean they wouldn't just make another teen show and take a Batman character in it, that wouldn't be a smart move for them.

People need to chill out and see what they have in store for us.

I've been a Batman fan all my life...

I haven't heard the details of this show, just the pitch..

But I would of CANNED the idea. I think it's wrong.

We know his name will be Dick "DJ" Grayson. Oh god. Here we go, people. Dick Grayson isn't a cool enough name... now he'll be called "DJ".

For goodness sake...

Also, correct me if I'm wrong... but Batman sees himself in Robin, which is why he takes him in as his ward. Being so, Robin's parents are murdered when he was a young boy (just like Bruce)...

...So obviously this show is going to change continuity A LOT... LIKE A TON A LOT... LIKE A LOT A LOT A LOT... cause now Robin is going to be a teen and not even know Batman until probably the final season of the show when it airs in the year 2017 (let's assume the show is a hit and it lasts 8 seasons. lol). Oh brother! Just like Smallville, we have a show that's NEVER going to put the hero in costume, never going to have the hero MEET his destiny (No Batman in the show). What a waste. I seriously can't see how many seasons you can milk out of Dick Grayson's life prior to meeting Batman. Plus it makes NO SENSE. Dick's parents die + Bruce takes him in.... that's how it works! But if they don't include Bruce Wayne in this show, it will make zero sense whatsoever....

Crap!

This is gonna bomb so hard. Robin..er, I mean Dick Grayson's pre-hero years....in the circus. And he's gonna go by "DJ"?

Wow, amazing show for sure.

Smallville wasn't that great to begin with and has been pretty much unwatchable since around season 3, as far as I'm concerned. McG is hit-or-miss for me, too. Like I said before, it could be good, but it seems really, really likely to suck.

WB couldn't sell the young Bruce Wayne idea. Here's hoping the CW won't go through with this idea.

**** yeah

You know what is interesting about Robin's young days?

Meeting the God-d**m-Batman, that's what.

You know what else is interesting?

Nothing.

:)

PS: This show will bomb and make people think Robin is a crappier
character.... which is totally untrue. Fact is, Robin is a "fish out of water" story... or a "childhood wish fulfillment" story, in a way. A child's parents are killed and a legendary guardian angel of the knight takes him under his wing for training... it's like Harry Potter being taken under the wing of Dumbledore the Great.... or Luke and Obi-Wan.... etc etc etc.

young Robin is classic and fun and interesting because he's a kid who gets trained by a god among men to become a god among men.

Watching Robin deal with school, girls, and bullies is ******ed.

Watching Superman deal with school, girls, and bullies is ******ed (sorry, I was never a fan of Smallville... I tried and I tried. It never grabbed me).

blah.

Not good being from the Smallville producers, that show has flat out stunk the last 4 years and should have been wrapped up a long time ago.

If it's taken seriously and has them traveling with the circus and has some familiar characters, it might be okay.

The CW just needs to stop being afraid of costumes, really.

Nightwing is interesting without Batman being involved.

Young Robin is not interesting without Batman being involved.

Unless he's with the Titans.

How much you want to bet Alfred will show up, but not Bruce Wayne?

All they got to do is cast an old guy. lol.

Familiar characters are exactly what I'm worried about. Dick's life before Batman wasn't very interesting, so in order to garner ratings and distinguish the show as a pre-Batman Robin/Nightwing show rather than just a dude-from-a-circus show, the CW's probably going to try and insert other DC characters here and there. Problem is, that quickly results in all kinds of stupid crap, just like it did in Smallville with Lois hanging around the Kent farm long before Clark ever moves to Metropolis and Jimmy being almost Clark's age and Clark joining some kind of proto-Justice League where he's the only *****e without a costume.

Lame. I don't give a crap about a 12 year old gymnast named "DJ" who is starting to grow armpit hair.

Too true - I was thinking familiar characters to the readers, most notably from TLH and the people behind his parents death.

Well, that's easier said than done on a television budget. That Green Arrow suit and his weapons they made for Smallville alone cost a couple grand to produce, I believe. And SV is a show heavily reliant on special effects and props, so you can imagine how much that could have possibly cut into the show's funds. Even that craptastic Birds of Prey series had to recycle Batman's suit from the Onstar commercials for just a couple flashbacks... and it's premise dealt with seasoned Gotham City vigilantes.

That, and CW sucks, given they opted to greenlight this concept. So maybe it's a bit of both. :o

so let me guess. we will get a boy in school in love in a girl. and then every season he will cry more to her because he can not be with her.

Until later on in the series, of course, when they introduce Babs after claiming they wouldn't. ;)

I do...its stupid.

Honestly, who gives a you know what about Dick Grayson pre-Robin days?

Now...POST-Robin, now there's a series.

BD8_nightwing.jpg

This I completely agree on^

I was thinking when I read this that it was some kind of bad joke you know where would they come up with such a lame idea. Then I remembered smallville was pitched first as a story about bruce wayne before he became batman but it would have involved him going places (budget problem) so they said what about clark He just stays in Smallville. Now there cash cow has long since jumped the shark and they want to replace but bats is a big star so some idiot exec went to the writers and said make this work:o

Don't forget, between the will they or wont they teen love plot, and the emoing against the world of DJ, there will be tv reports and new papers with stories of the mysterious batman cleaning up Gotham,to help make the show sound legit.

They're going to cast Babs as standoffish nerd girl, who works as a Library Aide during 2nd Period. The word around school will be that she thinks she's better than everyone else because her father is the Commissioner. She'll pop up periodically as a mild antagonist (you know, angsty teen teasing to foreshadow love) until the 2-part season finale where they have to 'team up' to do something heroic.

See I would like that except for the very fact neither one our vigilantes without meeting batman first:csad:

I kinda wanna see how this will play out, and which season the Graysons are gonna get killed off in, because you know it has to happen at one point. They could also do what desperate housewives did and skip a few years. Skip the whole period where he was Robin and go right into making him Nightwing, and have Tim Drake as Robin in later seasons.
