The Greatest Disney Animated Feature of All Time?

Kingdom Hearts :oldrazz:

Really old school:
  1. Jungle Book
  2. Sword in the Stone
  3. Robin Hood
  4. Cinderella

My childhood:
  1. The Lion King
  2. Aladdin
  3. Tarzan
  4. Beauty and the Beast
  5. The Little Mermaid

3D:
  1. Wreck-It Ralph
  2. Zootopia/Zootropolis
  3. Raya and the Last Dragon

Pixar:
  1. Toy Story series

If we're counting Pixar, then I have to add:

1) Inside Out
2) Wall-E
3) Finding Nemo

Honestly, that's the god-tier trio of children's movies for me. I'd rate them higher than basically anything else I've ever seen, Disney or not.

Pixar should definitely be its own category. They are a separate company distributed by Disney and their films are unique to themselves from Disney animated films.

Or at least, they were up to a point. I'd argue that, creatively, there has been something of a blurring in more recent years, with a lot of "Disney Animation" movies feeling more and more Pixar-esque. Wreck-It Ralph, for instance, totally feels like a Pixar movie.

The designs for a good number of characters in Disney Animation Studios' films from Tangled to Encanto definitely look Pixar-esque, and I don't think that's by accident either.

In no particular order:

Bambi is a masterwork. 70 minutes of artistic bliss about going through life. That scene in the snow where Bambi meets his father is just chilling. It gets to me even today. And then it is followed by a sequence about sex. Bambi is one of a kind. Best animated movie ever made, Disney or otherwise.

The other film that I completely adore and so I think of as more of a 1A than a 2, is Fantasia. Fantasia isn’t as deep as Bambi, but it is maybe the most gorgeous animated movie ever and the easiest to rewatch and never get tired of it. Just great entertainment.

For me, there’s different categories of what Disney era cause it’s usually what era you grew up in are your favorites and that gets boring. So with that said;

Golden Age (1937-1949) : Pinocchio
Silver Age (1950-1967) : The Jungle Book
Dark Days (1970-1988) : The Great Mouse Detective
The Renaissance (1989-1999) : Beauty and the Beast
Post Renaissance aka Dark Days II (2000-2008): Treasure Planet
The Renaissance II (2009-present) : Moana

I can certainly agree with your point, but I would also say that the Golden Age ended in 1942. After that was a bunch of package films produced on the cheap because of the War, until the Silver Age began in 1950. Still, that period did produce one great film which I actually liked better than most of the Silver Age that followed: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

Somehow my favorite and possibly the most accurate adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow ended up being a animated musical starring Bing Crosby.

There is something to be said about Beauty and the Beast being the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture. It's nearly flawless.

I don't know because there's so many films.

A decade ago, I would say Aladdin but its been years if not more than a decade, since I've seen most of the older films, and I don't know if I'd feel the same now. Out of the newer films, Tangled is still the one that I liked the most.

Tarzan, Mulan, Little Mermaid, Atlantis and the rest of the 90s/early 00s movies were part of my childhood memories. By the time, Tangled came out, I was already in college and attending 3d animation classes, I was still updated to every new film coming out and that was the period when I started collecting all of them on video. Fast forward to now, my interest to Disney animated films has drastically dwindled down to about 90%. I saw the trailer of Wish last Wednesday and just like when I saw it on YouTube, I was unimpressed.

Aladdin is my favorite.

The music, the dialogue, the humor, peak Robin Williams, the storytelling, the message, etc.

All this makes it one of the enjoyable and rewatchable Disney annimation.

The Lion King, and I don't think it's very close.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is pretty fantastic. The music, visuals and voice acting all came together for a powerful and dark experience.

The most criminally underrated Disney movie of all time. Claude Frollo is right up there with Scar and Jafar.

Hunchback is great but it would have been so much better with about 80% less comic relief gargoyles. Costanza overstayed his welcome.

My favourites are the big guns from the TLM to TLK era but I do also love Tangled and Frozen 1 and 2 from more recent years.

The packaging looks great, however this collection is going to be outdated very soon, with more films being released in the neXt couple of years.

Also, they should have separated Disney Animation Studios and PiXar. Both are under Disney but still two different distinct companies especially if you are someone who knows the history of both companies (and this collection is mostly for the hardcore fans anyway especially with that price tag).

The last DVD (Disney animated) i bought was Big Hero 6 (until the local distributor of DVDs/Blu rays in my country closed down which was really sad). Aside from few titles that I didn't get to own in physical format, I pretty much have everything from Snow White to Big Hero 6. Those Platinum Edition DVDs were great, I wish every Disney animated film got that treatment.
