And the media only shows when bad things happen with guns. They never show the good stories where it has stopped crime, saved lives, etc.

Let that sink in.

But they ARE reported by the media. If they weren't, my gun nut relatives wouldn't have anything to post on Facebook.

The NRA blocking research should bother anyone. I'm distrustful of ANYONE whose tactics include silencing any form of discussion or analysis. If you believe In your cause, you should have the confidence that it will withstand scrutiny

Yeah, you are right, sometimes the good side is in the media, like on facebook, but very very rare you see any of the big news doing any stories on them. Its always the negative stuff that gets shown on TV and its not suprising.

No I don't support them from blocking the research. I think it would show more positive than good anyway to be honest.

But do you you know the reason why they want to block the research? Also its not just the NRA, Its also part of Congress that is blocking it. So your distrust should be a lot broader than just the NRA. Its because its the CDC is one of the biggest groups that wants to conduct this research. The CDC (Centers for Disease Crontrol and prevention) expertise is not in firearms and I'm sorry, but a firearm is also not a disease. And that is why part of Congress and the NRA does not want them taking part of the research.

I'm not afraid of gun research, but to just say it is the NRA keeping them from doing it is not correct.

I would honestly love a real stats on gun violence.
All I ask is for it to be true and honest and broken into categories to fairly represent criminal and violent use vs justified and defensive use as well as accidents.
I don't want any if all it says is in these 50 states this is how many people die from firearms. that's not fair nor giving real results.

For example. I want categories consisting of things like:
-Acts of criminal violence (murder)
-Accidents (as in hunter accidentally shoots themselves).
-suicide
-Self defense.
-Category or police involved shootings
-Categories for other firearm related shootings that may not have ended with someone dead. could be two categories for criminal use and defensive use etc.

I know the FBI does some breakdown in their gun crime statistics but not in as many categories as you posted. Takes a bit to find things but the stats start looking pretty straightforward once you do.

The NRA doesn't care about the second amendment, at least not in its intent. It cares about selling as many guns as possible to boost the profits of the manufacturers.

I feel sorry for the law abiding citizens in this country who carry firearms and have there heads on right and do things the right way to live there lives in a safe manner. There rights are being ruined by these countless sick twisted people who keep commiting these attacks using guns in a way they were never intended to be by our founding fathers. I dont have the answers but something has to be done.

their rights are NOT being ruined

cut that BULLS**T narrative

Then how come gun control gets worse and worse with every incident calling for gun bans? Not starting any fights but your in la la land if dont think gun rights are taking hits.

how is it worse? there has been no notable change, at the national level, in the past 15 years

various states, I live in CT, have made changes to waiting periods and background checks

I can go to a gun show right now, purchase a gun without having to fill out any paperwork as long as I have a valid state ID

Their rights are being violated because folks is saying mean stuff about guns.

MI is the same. It needs to change.

After today, we truly need to discuss the easy accessibility to these weapons. This is the worst mass shooting in US history. I'm not saying there needs to be a witch hunt for guns. But I'm also not saying thay gun advocates need to vicitimize themselves either.

I shouldn't be able to just roll up in the gun store right now and buy these weapons so easily. That gun gives people power. That power requires great resposibility. And not just on the wielder of the weapon but to the manufacturers snd distributors of those weapons. I dare anyone to challenge that last sentence and say why it's wrong.

Shout out to my shameless Spider-Man plug.

I will repost this here. If you take away the assault weapons, you cease some terrorism but you embolden organized crime and gun cartels, just the same as the war on drugs. Governments would prefer organized crime over terrorism, as they can profit monetarily from organized crime, just as they do from illegal drugs.

The idea that there is a one law change or amendment that fits the bill is a fallacy.

Individual responsibility?

At the end of the day the manufacturers are simply putting out a product, the regulations of which are defined by whatever laws are currently on the books. Some apparently aren't when it comes to background checks, which is baffling in and of itself. Much of what I thought was common sense when it came to background checks apparently qualifies as gun-grabbing.

I won't challenge the rest of your post, its pretty much spot-on.

Worse? You're just making things up. How many states have open carry now? You can even carry guns on a college campus in Texas.

Gun ownership has gone up under Obama.

banning guns will not stop the killings if people want guns they will get guns

marijuana is illegal and people still get it all the time

We carefully control the components of explosives. Why should bullets and guns be any different?

I couldn't say for certain, though I would guess the components for explosives are under tighter regulation because those are your go-tos for suicide bombers, car bombers, and generally will do a greater deal of damage. Then there's the sporting factor - the only sportsmen that probably would use dynamite are the hillbilly fishermen; you know, drop a stick in the lake, then hold your net out and catch the fish blown out of the water.

Again - I'm not certain if this is the reason; just my observation from reports overseas and seeing the redneck stereotypes played out on television.
