The Guns thread

When someone says assault weapon I'd say they are talking about about any rifle with a standard magazine of 25 rounds plus and can be converted into an automatic weapon.

That would include most standard rifles (non AR style) and pistols.

I can make an AR-15 a fully automatic weapon with two springs and 20 minutes

a ban isn't going to happen, but everything around it needs to change

- close the gun show loophole
- universal standard of ownership across ALL 50 STATES
- universal background checks

personally, I support higher taxes on any high capacity rifles and ammunition

if we can tax the s**T out of cigarettes, they can do the same for guns and ammo

the fact that the NRA has spent an obscene amount of money to stop ANY discussion from happening means something

Agreed.

Companies in the US do not legally sell coveraion kits. They are very illegal and being caught with a conversion kit is a serious federal crime. Some do howerever sell "bump stocks". These have springs in them. When the gun is thrust back into the shoulder it springs forward ramming the then reset trigger into the finger so essentially the shooter doesnt have to move his finger after the first shot. It simulates an automstic rifle but the fun isnt technically an automatic and yes I think bump stocks ahould be outlawed. And a bump stock system can conceivably rigged to any semi automatic long rifle. Not just AR-15 style weapons.

And no you cant gift a class 3 weapon or inherit a class 3 weapon. It is a serious federal crime.
So what happens to the weapons? Genuinely curious about this.

When did selling a conversion kit become illegal? Also if they are illegal how come they come up so easily on Google?

Do most pistols come with standard magazine 25 rounds plus? Also I know it applies to most non-bolt action rifles. Which is exactly why they shouldn't be in circulation. And yes I have seen the brilliant monstrosities glocks can become.

What, by showing most guns are in fact dangerous and shouldn't be in most people's hands? You are welcome. :yay:
Only for a newbie that has no knowledge in handling them or someone who has the wrong temperament/mindset.

So the vast majority of Americans. The funny thing is, that is who they want to buy guns the most.

I truly truly cannot understand the argument for, at the very least, much much stricter rules and more rigorous, thorough background checks specifically for assault weapons.

I think everyone is being pretty clear on this. The vast majority of people right now are not crying for a ban on all guns. But there is absolutely no reason a 29 year old guy with red flags all over his record should be able to walk into a store and buy an AR-15 over the counter with no problem. That's before even getting to the discussion of whether they should be on the mainstream market in the first place....just, the system we have in place is clearly not working.

It's not helped by GOP fools who insinuate or say outright, "Obama wants to take your goshdarn guns!" And whenever another major shooting happens, they stuff their heads in the sand rather than admit "Okay, this is a problem we can't ignore."

Bolt action rifles can use box magazines as well. My pump action 12 guage shotgun can be modified for a drum magazine. And my .40 caliber glock has a 22 round magazine and a 15 round magazine and there is an illegal conversion to make the 9mm glock fully automatic. Most postol manufactures make extended magazines that hold 15 - 25 rounds depending on the manufacturer and caliber.

Did not know that about Bolt action rifles, but did know the first. It is just another good example of why such things should not only be illegal, but actually regulated.

The biggest obstacle in the way of magazine regulation is that there are probably millions of gun magazines in civillian hands and on the market. And they dont have serial numbers or trackable individual markings. You're not going to put that genie back in the bottle.

You could stop production on high capacity magazines which would be a good thing, but those that are alreafy out there arent going to disappear they just shift to the black market and be exchanged and sold between civillians.

And most americans arent going to turn in their stuff. I doubt even I would. Id bury the stuff for safekeeping before Id turn it in. I wouldnt sell them tho. If I did keep anything id make sure it stayed with me. I dont even sell guns to friends and family. Once a gun is registered to me or belongs to me I keep it or get rid of it through official regulated channels so that at least I won't be adding to the problem.

Just because their is a black market with illegal actions, doesn't mean you should just leave things alone.

I understand this kind of stuff is difficult. Which is exactly why you need to start as soon as possible, because it has not just an effect now, but decades down the road. Do you eliminate everything? Of course now. But the idea is to a reduction over time. We are the country that had a war over slavery, and then it took another 100 years for the Civil Rights Movement. You have to start somewhere. The problem is we never, ever start. In fact, it feels like we are going backwards a lot of the time.

there needs to be changes

just doing nothing has gotten us to this point

starting simply can lead to more comprehensive results later on

Im from CT, I live 20 minutes from Sandy Hook, I helped with two fundraisers for the families, met with the parents of one of the children killed

you look them in the eye and tell them just doing nothing is acceptable

“I think there’s this fantasy world of gunplay in the movies, but it doesn’t really happen that way,” said retired Army Sgt. Rafael Noboa y Rivera. “When I heard gunfire [in Iraq], I didn’t immediately pick up my rifle and react. I first tried to ascertain where the shooting was coming from, where I was in relation to the gunfire and how far away it was. I think most untrained people are either going to freeze up, or just whip out their gun and start firing in that circumstance.”

He's right. The military doesnt have boot camp and AIT for ****s and giggles. Humans have to be conditioned to deal with being in combat situations. Too many civillians think that its as simple as point and shoot but its not. When bullets start coming your way and the adrenaline kicks in and the stress reaches life or death levels the brain does funny things. Time perception, motor skills, emotions, reaction times all go haywire without proper conditioning. And then youve got the one's that think they are a hero and end up getting themself or others killed. This is why gun owners can actually make a home invasion situation even more dangerous if they dont train regularly.

I love the idea of the being on the no fly zone = no guns bill. My guess is it won't even see the light of day because Republicans would basically have to vote for pro NRA vs Pro tough on security and either way many lose.

if the GOP doesn't compromise now, there won't be any compromising after November because the Dems will take both the Senate and the House again

Damn skippy, I was in the Navy on a ship and we still had to go through regular training with small arms and rifles. Actual soldiers out in the s*** get very intensive training to hopefully be ready for a combat situation and sadly even then it's not enough as there are new soldiers who still can't handle combat.

People also seem to forget what our soldiers are commonly afflicted with, PTSD. All it takes is ONE situation to inflict that on one's mind and your life is changed forever.

Even if it's a landslide election for Hillary it still will be fairly tough for Dems to win the House

Without Hillary, the Dems need four seats to win the majority. With Hillary, they only need three.

A lot of people are disgusted with the way Republicans have acted over the past four years. Some of them will be voted out in November, without a doubt. Hopefully here in NC, our lovely Governor McCrory and Senators Richard Burr and Phil Berger will get the sack.

It's gonna be damn tough if Trump keeps acting like he does, he's already pissed off a lot of GOP members and several of them are having to think about actively not supporting him to even have a chance to keep their seats. One thing I will tell you though is the average Joe who votes against Trump/Clinton is then going to just vote down party lines at that point. Rare is the person who does actual research before casting their ballot.

It only makes sense. Why is there a no fly list? Because of what that plane can do... either 9/11 style, hijack style or to simply leave the area.

Now that security has clamped down on planes, you see an uptick in another style of weapon, the gun.

If an individual is on a no fly list but can still buy a gun at Bass Pro Shop, we should be allowed to legally take every member of Congress and dump them into the Potomac. WTF.
