The Guns thread

Also, it is interesting to see the slippery slope in action over my lifetime. The establishment used to make fun of people who saw it coming but here we are...it was "just" homosexual marriage but now with Spacey we see the push for pedophilia to be normalized and of course it is barbaric to make someone wait until they are 18 to undergo a sex change operation. I remember when it was paranoia to say rights would ever be stripped past automatic. Now its bump stocks...tomorrow semi-autos themselves.

Wtf is wrong with you.

There is zero cost to everyone not owning a gun. The world existed for a long time without them.
You don't believe in everyone not having guns. You believe in only the establishment having guns.

Huge difference.
Without getting into a much longer conversation than I wish to have with someone who has no interest in having an intellectually honest discussion, I will refer you to a World Health Organization study that examined the exact proposition you claimed.
I have been here debating with people all day, so if you can't tell something as clear as the fact that I want to have an intellectually honest conversation, then it is no wonder you can't comprehend the more complex issues!

I am just teasing, of course, but seriously I would be interested in that study if you would link to it. I have looked at these things extensively and I am wondering if it is just out of date. The EU is rapidly becoming a cesspool of violence and crime, particilarly in the larger cities.

Sounds like you are trolling now.

He was fired from the top rated show on Netflix....a movie he was going to star in has been shelved....the OSCARS were going to give him a special award at the next ceremony but it has been stopped....a movie coming out he stars in has been now delayed.....he's being denounced and villified by everyone including the LGBT community....where exactly is his actions being "normalized"?

Actually, that's not how it is analyzed. Rather, it is, per the Supreme Court's jurisprudence over the past 15 years, analyzed from a historical perspective. That is to say, if a weapon has historically been perceived as a defensive weapon, it enjoys a high level of Constitutional protection. Fully automatic weapons do not have that historic connotation. As such, they are more subject to restriction (or even prohibition). Second Amendment jurisprudence isn't a tit for tat, "they have it so we have it," analysis. You really just make yourself sound silly and ignorant when you make blanket statements about subjects you do not understand.
Oh yes, I am well aware of how the Supreme Court has perverted the law over the past few decades. Happy to see that those judges are slowly being replaced with people that will interpret the law correctly.
Just so you know....Matt is a lawyer....and I dare say knows more about the law than you do.
I am arguing at the level of understanding he has displayed. I would be happy to go on if he wants to take it up a notch.

Sorry for using that term earlier. I hope I haven't been being direspectful.

I am talking about articles like these.

Spacey is a victim of abuse so it is fine for him to be a pedophile - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5051247/Abusive-childhood-turned-Kevin-Spacey-monster.html

Spacey is gay so it is fine for him to be a pedophile - http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/...acey_a_pedophile_hurts_the_gay_community.html

These were both on the front page when I searched Google News just now. Never seen media come out to defend a pedophile like they are right now. The motive is obvious.

I'm glad Matt is here. It's always entertaining when he destroys trolls.

At no point in that DailyMail article did it say that Spacey being a pedophile was fine. It's actually quite common for these types of people to have been victims themselves as children. The article goes over Spacey's past and his brother implies that Spacey is the way that he is because of what happened to him as a child. That's not outrageous in any way. Nor does it excuse Spacey's behaviour. But it does point to a reason for what he does.

People only have sympathy for child victims while they're still children. Once they hit adulthood, suddenly sympathy turns into anger. It's stupid.

Also, if I were you, I would be very careful about equating homosexuality to pedophilia. There are plenty of gay posters here so choose your words better next time.

Criminalsmay find guns by other means but that doesn't mean we have to make it easy for them. We control the supplies for explosives to make it more difficult to make bombs and to make it easier to track when people do, to be able to prosecute those along the supply chain who are accessories. In what way should that not apply to goddamn AR15? That's not for hunting. It isn't even particularly practical for home defense unless you're planning to gun down 20 people attacking your front porch.

This is nonsense.

The AR15 platform is used for hunting. Every major rifle manufacturer sells AR15 hunting rifles. They even have camo print patterns on them. The AR15 platform is a semi auto just like a traditional old school bolt action or lever action rifle. It's simply a more modern better design. The reason it makes a good hunting rifle is the low recoil (significantly less than traditional rifle designs), the magazine ammo delivery system, they are easy to maintain, and the platform comes in a wide variety of ammo types. So yeah if I hunted, I like a lot of hunters, would choose the modern, better design. Not the old school rifle design.

I am not OK with insinuating that gay rights are equal to pedophilia, and I am not ok with doubling down on it. Disgusting. No other words. This should not be tolerated.

I'm not okay with it either. :( And this isn't even the thread for it.

The first article's headline -

Price of betrayal and deviancy: How an abusive childhood at the hands of a vile Nazi father turned Kevin Spacey into 'a monster whose life was a lie'

Betrayal....deviancy....a monster....whose life was a lie.

Yeah, I see where they're applauding him.....**that was sarcasm**

The second story's headline -
How Calling Kevin Spacey a Pedophile Hurts the Gay Community

Hmmmm....calling him a pedophile hurts the gay community.

Yep, again....I definately see where they are endorsing pedophilia with being gay....again....sarcasm.

You either are very young and naive who can't understand what he reads...or you are a troll. I very much suggest you think very carefully before you post anything else. In the meanwhile....take some time off to think about it.

Quick, someone go back in time and warn the founding fathers about AR-15s!

haha wow it happened so fast I couldn't even beat the hive-mind to it...yawn

In places where citizens have less acess to guns, the crazies use whatever. Black market guns, knives (a stabber in Japan killed 19 in an attack the same month as the France driver attack last year btw.) And basically the only difference is that the disarmed citizens were unable to defence themselves.

Is no one going to talk about the fact that this spree in Texas was ended because a neighbor to the church started shooting back?

interesting statement. so you are saying its good to be able to buy guns so you can defend your self, yet i dont remember in any mass shooting that anyone defended himself with a gun. so that logic kinda goes out of the window.

Christ that's a dumb argument.

"So much for those who want to vilify the NRA in the wake of the Texas massacre in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday: Stephen Willeford, the man who shot and chased the man who killed 26 people in a Texas church, is an NRA instructor. Willeford insisted, “I’m no hero; I am not. I think my God, my Lord, protected me and gave me the skills to do what needed to be done.”"

The NRA is the reason we have the insane gun laws that allow people like the killer to get his hands on these weapons that can kill an entire church congregation.

Rather than have sensible laws restricting gun ownership we just have to hope that someone in the crowd is a good shot.

I thought the argument for "good guy with a gun" was said good guy stopping the bad guy from killing people. But the bad guy got to kill 26 people before he was taken down. He would've killed far less of he had no access to guns. So even in terms of preventative measures, gun control is better than John Wayne.

I see he's been temporary banned, but I had to respond.
What reliable statistics would support this idea?
Because in Europe we do not have these data...

I live in London. I've been stabbed. Twice. I'm still alive. If the c***s had shooters I'd be dead.

Simple as.

Yea there are wankers who want to hurt people everywhere. But it's a lot easier to kill people with a gun you bought in WalMart.

Foolish people WANT to believe foolish things. Mass imbibing of misinformation is turning into an issue all over. It could well lead to destabilizing the globe. And it's not a grass roots thing. It's too often being directed by some one or group somewhere that benefits them.

I imagine he frequents far right online communities in which the prevailing narrative is that, having opened the gates to migration from the Middle East, Europe is now much like ISIS controlled Syria.

To the extent that this is based on any evidence, it has nothing to do with gun control, and would be infinitely worsened by the addition of easily obtainable firearms.

The guy's just a troll, anyway - he strolled into a Tolkien thread and casually said the author was overrated!
