Anybody else listening to J. Cole's Friday Night Lights mixtape.

He really needs to stop putting out mixtapes... But hey, free music.

Considering I've completely stayed away from all the Friday tracks save the CRS one, I'm going into the album with fresh ears. I loved "Power", so hopefully the record is step in that direction.

So, Mr. Rager by Kid Cudi? Yeah, that's > everything he has ever done.

So Im listening to some of the snippets off HFM2, the lyrics are good as expected but it has one of the same problems as Rotten Apple...the beats are meh-below average.

J Coles new mixtape is incredible.

Too many good songs. Premeditated Murder, See World, In the Morning just to name a few.

Can't wait to see this guy release an actual album.

Agreed. As much as I'm liking songs from HFM2 some of the beats are on the lackluster side.

Anyone listen to Big K.R.I.T.?

And yeah, J. Cole's new mixtape is awesome.

Dre finally has a single coming for Detox with Snoop and Akon:

They're already shooting the video so this looks to be a done deal that Dre is ready to drop. It's an ill single, but I hope the rest gets a little more ambitious. The hype is too big to just come correct. Dre needs to surpass expectations, though it is easier said than done.

I heard that those background vocals are from Nate Dogg before the seizures happened it was said Dre recorded accapellas of him a few years back but others say its Timbo.

If so it's Dre's fault for delaying the album for so long. I don't even know if this new generation of so called hip-hop fans are really anticipating it like that...

Someone from another board on the alleged release of Detox (minus expletives):

dr. dre, andre young, seriously shut the mother**** up. concentrate on your new hobbies of drinking muscle milk & making ****** overpriced headphones. i gives less than 1.5 ****s if this [person] puts out another studio album again. [people] done graduated from school, got car & house notes & are raising families in the time it takes this [person] to put out a ****ing rap album. da[heck]outtahere. last time this [person] put out an album america online was still sending cd's to people trying to get them to sign up for dial up

:lmao:

:pal: :lmao: :applaud

Funny because it's true

I remember hearing about Detox in 6th grade. Motherf***er I'm in college now.
I mean the album is never going to live up to the hype of 10 years of saying "DETOX IS COMING". I think the only way that it could come out is if Dre dies

To be fair I'm sure if the internet was as active in the early 90s, people would have been saying the same exact thing when they expected the follow-up to the Chronic. Dre doesn't have a record for staying in the game on a regular basis. He drops a jaw-dropper once in a blue moon and disappears.

Yeah it definitely won't live up to hype, no matter how good it is. Look at Axl Rose and Chinese Democracy.

Really liking Nelly's current single "Just a Dream."

It's about time he was coming back. I liked some of his earlier songs. It seems to me that some of the major rap stars from a decade ago are coming back: Nelly, Jay-Z, Eminem, Ludacris and (to a lesser degree) Nas. It's a shame that DMX is in prison and Busta Rhymes is M.I.A.

When is DMX coming out of jail anyways? He was one of my favorite Rappers. Him and his Ruff Ryders crew (The Lox, Eve, Swizz Beatz etc.). Nelly, Eminem, and Ludacris went away for a while and are now back in a big way. Busta and DMX could return in similar fashion in 2011 (or whenever DMX is out of jail, assuming of course, he's out within the next year or two).

Dre doesn't have a record for staying in the game on a regular basis.

Well, he did once. The NWA, Eazy E, D.O.C., Michel'le albums were not decades apart in coming out. He's gotten lazy with his "solo" success.

Curren$y Pilot Talk 2

An amazing album (already have it pre ordered on Itunes) thats all I've been listening too along with J.Cole's mixtape.

^ Hell yeah, Pilot Talk 2 is fire!

And yeah, I'm not really hyped for Detox. Its been 10 years and people have moved on. I'll still listen to it, I mean who won't, but I doubt it'll live up to the hype.

So I finally got Kanye's album yesterday.I'm impressed the album does'nt have one skippable track. If was listening to it while playing Street Fighter II,amd for some reason it made the game seem even more epic.

After letting it sink in, I gotta say Kanye's latest outing is his best album to date. It's a relief as I was beginning to wonder if he'd ever get to drop something as soulful and passionate as College Dropout. I feel like the fame altered his musical style to where that raw hip-hop sound was missing from every subsequent record.

Lyrics have never been Kanye's strongpoint but he's at his best here. The wit, anger, and hedonistic rhymes are in full effect. As a producer, this album cemented it for me as crowning Ye as the best hip hop producer of his generation. I've already bought the album, but I'd gladly pay for an instrumental release. There's something to be proud in a hip-hop album that could be described as beautiful. The difference in the production of this album and every other rap album released within this decade -- it's staggering. Rap songs of today have beats. Kanye's songs have composition. It's already known fact but I'm obliged to repeat that Kanye is a rapper and producer. That alone makes him the most complete artist of the genre. The fact that he pulls off both positions to amazing results is to be applauded.

Not one skippable song, every guest feature is on point, and the subject matter touches upon a lot of relevant topics. If there is any minor quibble to be had, there will be some instances where Ye overproduces the song. Practically every cut has an interlude where he just lets the music play itself. When it works, it works (Devil In A New Dress is so damn soulful). Sometimes though it felt like he just threw everything into the kitchen sink (listen for Optimus Prime's cameo on a track).

Other than that, instant classic for me. I've been reading reviews from some hip hop heads on the net and unfortunately it doesn't seem like they appreciate this effort as much as they should. On the upside every professional critique I've read has agreed that Kanye topped himself here and is arguably at the peak of his career.

Funny thing is anyone that's been remotely following GOOD Friday already heard the majority of the album. It shows where Kanye's focus is at if he's so willing to give out free music. I'd recommend checking the other GF tracks though as some didn't make the final album. You'll find a few gems, I assure you.

Nice write up PreK. Agree on all accounts
