What are your thoughts on Candyman? I've watched it for the first time in years and loved it.

i wouldn't claim to be the average person. but i remember wanting to kill "jimbo" and "teddy." i didn't feel sorry for (or relate to) either one of them. and i found him bragging about having banged some chick to be pretty sleazy. Ted doing a poor job of acting intoxicated and laughing at some of the unfunniest film stuff i've ever seen.

the sympathetic characters in that film were clearly the mother, her children, and the guy that was looking for his sister (which is basically the role that Padilecki was aping).

As I've always been somewhat of a geek myself, I can relate to Jim to a certain extent. Like him, I've never been very good with the ladies. So I can understand him throwing it in Ted's face when he gets lucky with one of the twins that Teddy wanted to get with. Especially after Teddy's constant teasing, calling him a "dead f**k", etc.

As for Teddy laughing at the old stag films, he was totally stoned. Not just the character, the actor playing him actually got stoned for playing that scene (he regretted it afterwards, but he did it). The whole point of him laughing at the stag films was that the films weren't funny. It was his reaction to being high that was making him laugh.

Of course the most sympathetic characters were Tommy, Trish, their mom, and Rob (who wasn't looking for his sister, he was looking to avenge her). But that doesn't mean that all of the characters are completely unrelateable. Jim & Teddy might be unrelateable to you personally, but others like myself may find some common ground with them.

One of the best, and although they changed his look and origin, a really good adaption of Clive Barker's short story. In fact I think the movie did it better. Plus it has a great score to top it off.

I watched Grave Encounters today. Another "found footage" movie with a terribly slow build up that only gets interesting in the last 30 minutes and then gets okay with a few good scenes that stand out. Needless to say, I skipped the sequel of more "found footage" of unremarkable boringness.

Candyman would be a great movie just for Tony Todd's creepy performance alone (my god that voice).

I really need to watch Candyman again. I can hardly remember any of it because it's been so long. Same with Pumpkinhead.

Candyman is one I need to watch again too. I think the last time I saw it was on television and the last time I did unedited was on VHS. That's way too long to go without the Candyman. The sequels are more debatable though.

sometimes i just put it on because i like the theme song. first one was great. i didn't care for the followups. each one seems to just start from scratch with the mythos. i'd definately recommend the first. it's Tony Todd's best work.

I've decided to do a 31 nights of Halloween as well, but will stick exclusively to films I haven't seen but should have. I may have to skip one day though since my band has a gig in Philly in October and I'll be on the road all day to get there.

Love Candyman. "I hear you're looking for Candyman, *****!" I used to quote that back in middle school/high school often.

have you seen Trick or Treat? might be a fun one for your day-before-gig list.

Seen it...and own the soundtrack.

Unless you mean Trick 'r Treat (the anthology with Anna Paquin) in which case, I've still seen it, and loved it.

(given the context, your probably talking about the music related one...the link didn't work for me though).

However, there are plenty of classic (and modern) films that even I'm surprised that I haven't seen, despite being a huge Horror fan. I tend to usually focus on current movies (as in, released this year) so if something slipped past me even last year (like, The Loved Ones or The Innkeepers) then I end up not watching them. And I haven't seen ANY of the classic Universal or Hammer horrors.

Speaking of music related Horror films...remember Black Roses??? I own that soundtrack as well. That one went under most people's radars (for good reason) but it might be a fun cheesy movie for someone to add to their list.

Black Roses was amazing! There was another very similar 80's hair metal horror movie called Rock 'N Roll Nightmare, that is every bit amazing as Black Roses, if not more so. Check it out. Trailer:

Tonight I watched the Kindred. Pretty damn boring. Some solid creature effects though.

I love Candyman.

It's one of my favorite horror films. If only for how unique the character's backstory is.

Haven't seen (or heard) Rock N Roll Nightmare...I may have to check that out.

I actually got the Black Roses soundtrack first, since I'm a bit of a sucker for 80's metal. Took me years to actually track down the movie to watch it.

There was another one pretty recently...I want to say it was called Groupie...that starred the former lead singer of a band called Poets and Pornstars, who left music for acting. I don't recall that movie being fun and cheesy though.

His voice is terrifying in person, which is disconcerting when compared to how approachable he is. I met him a few years ago at a really small con in St. Louis.

That's really neat, I have heard that he's a pretty nice guy. My pet theory is that his character in the Final Destination films is actually death taking human form.

I would prefer the Final Destination movies if they were left vague enough for the viewer to think that it was all just coincidences.

I watched the dyatlov pass incident/the devil's pass. I can't believe Renny Harlin has gone from directing die hard to directing a cliché found footage horror movie.

i thought that was a given. i do like the interpretation. that or he's Silver Surfer to Death's "Galactus." :woot:
