The Horror Thread - Part 6

I quite liked Clown, it was 100% telegraphed as to where it went but thought it was reasonable enough.

This is where we finally disagree haha. I thought Clown was atrocious tbh, what was a scary as hell concept was given a very cheap telling. It just never felt terrifying and by that I mean the characteds never felt truly scared. The worst part was when he killed that bully kid who was playing video games. The kid is like "oh ****" when he is there to kill him instead of been so utterly scared that he couldn't stop crying etc. It was like they were trying to go for some kind of humour instead of what the trailers promised. I just thought it was a really poor job.

I feel more strongly about Clown been bad than I do Lights Out but that was another great concept that felt cheap and not in any way scary.

Speaking of clowns, has anyone else here seen the movie Stitches from 2012? I ended up buying it last year & it was a delightful surprise. A way better film than what I expected.

While I haven't really seen a whole lot of clown horror movies, I did see Killer Clowns from Outer Space on Netflix about 3 years ago. It was mildly creepy in an over the top manner as I suppose horror movie starring a scary clown should be. The It movie I saw a bit over a decade ago and ended up only thinking the sewer scene was creepy. The rest of the stuff either came off as part of someone's imagination or something else. I guess I was disappointed by the fact the clown turned out to be some giant spider like creature at the end of the movie instead of some real sinister clown tale as I was expecting. Perhaps if I gave the movie another try now, I'd see it differently. Never did see it as a kid so can't comment on that but do know Stephen King gained a reputation off of this book.

Anyway, going off of the clown subject into a movie that really surprisingly creeped me out, about 2-3 years ago I saw the movie "Find Me". It's low budget and doesn't have necessarily stellar reviews as certainly isn't a tour de force so saw it for free on Hulu (hadn't even set up a paid account at time as some movies could just click on and they'd let you watch). I recommend watching it if you want a low budget movie that will surprise you with a pretty high creep factor (or at least for me anyway) and movie most would otherwise miss due to reviews and popularity.

It's a paranormal movie as seen here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3027188/?ref_=nm_flmg_edt_3

Pretty much the main creep factor involves a twist at a point in the film and a reaction to an earlier story point along with the subdued exposition (due to a small budget film) and how story points are presented that made me remember this one feeling bit uncomfortable afterwards. I suppose if I had read about it beforehand knowing what to expect would've reacted less so. Definitely recommend it as something go out on a limb on and watch it.

My vote for a reboot/remake

large_d0uATPnpbbK6eVW9UeiDLko7kh5.jpg

problem with that is replacing Angus Scrimm would be nearly as difficult as replacing Robert Englund as Freddy was... not sure if the horror community would be on board with that, just yet.

There's an 8 episode series called "Slasher", that was pretty good....

I thought the Pilot episode was great but the rest was awful.[blackout] The twist didn't work either for me, the person who it ended up been got a personality transplant for the last episode.[/blackout]

I liked that as well. It definitely had issues but it was a pretty accurate depiction of what Chuck E Cheese is really like. (ie: Hell) :funny:

Go out and get the amazing Phantasm Boxset that just came out yesterday...all 5 movies with LOADS of extras on each disc not to mention a 6th disc with even more extras...a little book that has some amazing interviews, etc and a 2 sided poster...all movies in HD...its PHANtastic!!!

For anyone living in or near Dearborn.

Stitches was great. Cheesy horror comedy with some great gore fx. I watched it on Netflix and then purchased it on blu ray.

I really want it to get a sequel, though, which is more than possible given it's ending. But I'd only want one if it stays in the same vein as the first one: simple, contained and hilarious.

It's shaping up to be a solid remake.

I watched "The Void" last night. Holy crap, it's a great film in itself, but it's like rolling Silent Hill, Hellraiser, and The Thing into one and put it on screen. The ending is pretty weird, and there are plenty of wtf moments, but overall I loved the film.

Yeah although I have some problems with it, it's a solid flick. It's pretty much a love letter to John Carpenter.

I was 99.9% sure that was going to get s***-canned.

Still, doesn't say if it's gonna be theatrical or VOD yet, lol.

Finally watched Tales From the Hood. I'd never seen it and tbh I remember seeing it years ago to but on DVD. I just assumed it would be awful and not worth my time at all. Boy was I wrong it's a fantastic anthology horror and has a really good gothic horror vibe that I was not expecting.

I have a sneaking suspicion it won't end up being released. I could be wrong but that reason alone makes me think that.

Sad about Leatherface delays. It's made by the directors of Inside.

I saw a really cool poster for the Burning online and I thought I'd give the movie it another try. I had only seen the Burning once before tonight. I know amongst the horror fans this is one of the higher regarded Friday the 13th clones out there. But originally I just didn't get it, I thought it had awful characters, the FX were overhyped etc. However, having watched it again tonight I was wrong or my tastes have changed, because this film is awesome. Sure it's pretty slow but it has a really good atmosphere that I didn't notice upon my original viewing (something I blame on the transfer I saw at the time). The gore FX were much better than I remembered and best of all I loved the characters. I felt connected to them this time out. For me this has shot up my list of favourite slashers, while it might not crack the top ten I can add this to the list with films like Prom Night that I'm really glad I gave a second chance. All thanks to this poster:
