Why? He's a great actor and Shutter Island was pretty good.

I find him to be a highly over rated actor. And there's something about him that just bugs the hell out of me. I can't quite put my finger on what, but he really does just bugs me. So I go out of my way to not see any of his movies. I'll occassionally see a movie where he has a relatively minor role (Django Unchained for instance), but I can't stomach seeing him on screen for the full 90 minutes or so.

I saw House of a 1000 Corpses, I'd give it a 6/10. The Devil's Rejects was much better, probably around a 7.5

Is it his voice?

I agree. I think that's the popular consensus on it as well. Most might rate House a little lower. The Devils Rejects is a pretty good horror film though. It's not scary IMO, but the characters are interesting and I think Zombie did a good job with it.

Visions of your dead wife crumbling in your arms isn't horror?

Its every bit a horror movie as Jacob's Ladder which has been discussed several times in this thread.

Not really. By that logic every movie with a nightmare is a horror movie.

I don't know. I could end up changing my mind about him in the future. I used to have similar feelings about Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt. But after Sleepy Hollow and The Devil's own, respectively, I've grown to rather like both of those actors. I have yet to see a "Sleepy Hollow/Devil's Own-esque" peformance from Leo (although to be fair that could be because I avoid his film like the plague), so until I do I will continue to avoid him at all costs.

I still haven't seen that. I really enjoy Devil's Rejects, though.

I haven't seen House of 1000 Corpses either. I saw Devil's Rejects and thought it was okay. At least Rob wasn't crapping all over someone elses property this time. It certainly wasn't what I'd call great though.

I liked his Halloween as well.

I see it as something completely different. Just like I can enjoy Avengers and Ultimates or the British Office and the US Office.

I was excited about the Lords of Salem, but was highly disappointed with it. I ended up nodding off halfway through the film.

I would have loved to have seen his T-Rex movie but I think he used a bunch of his ideas for that in Halloween. I actually think people would have liked his Halloween movies more if it had nothing to do with MM and Halloween at all.

I don't know why anyone would relate the two anyway. The last thing I would want to see is the same movie remade again... like Psycho.

I'm pretty sure that he won't be doing horror for some time. I think his next movie is about the 70's Flyers. I can't wait to see that.

I think he's a good director; Ho1000C had some really cool imagery and stuff, and I liked Halloween and TDR. I haven't seen H2 or TLoS.

I'm really intrigued to see what he does with his hockey movie. A non-horror movie from someone like Rob Zombie should be interesting.

The 70's Flyers were a complete and utter horror show. Bullies, goons and rock stars all wrapped up in one. The image of players fighting in hockey to a moronic degree comes from those goon squad teams. I think this ends up as his version of Slap Shot.

I think that fits his style of movie making and I wish he would stick to what he does best a little more. I didn't see LoS but everyone said that he tried to do a euro horror film. I get that he's an artist and I'm a fan but give me a break.

I would have loved to have seen what his thoughts on The Blob were. I think he could really tap into that rockabilly 50's scifi genre.

I just finished watching V/H/S and what a bore that was. I ended up skipping past large chunks of yawn-inducing filler. There were a few good bits but all the shaky-cam, found footage, attempts to build a story just failed to impress me.

There were maybe two stories even remotely interesting. The one at the hotel and the last one but even they had me skipping through the slow parts.

I completely agree, especially with part 2.
I kind of felt that way about the Evil Dead remake. I loved the gore but I didn't like the movie. I didn't need the humor or Ash but I just don't see why they had to call it Evil Dead.

Lose the book and just make it about a cabin where satanic rituals take place.

What makes a movie Horror seems to have shifted with time. Stuff like Alfred Hitchcock, Silence of the Lambs and (select episodes of) Twilight Zone USED to be Horror...but at some point the general public decided that they didn't like Horror...but DID like this stuff...so they called them Suspense or Thrillers or whatever.

My favorite Horror movie of the year so far is Stoker...and odds are that most wouldn't even consider that a Horror movie.

Damn, Stoker showed up at Wal-Mart a few days ago, and only a couple copies were left, but I put it down because I was unsure if I'd like it or not, and if it was more horror or something else. Kind of kicking myself for that now.

It's very much an homage to Hitchcock. It doesn't have people running around, body parts and blood flying everywhere. Instead, it's just building a creepy vibe...the uneasiness of watching this family at a tragic time, and how they try to understand themselves, the situation and each other. There's a lot that is left unsaid for you to interpret, as far as how and why the family interacted with each other before the cameras started rolling etc. I'd love to get into it all here, but honestly I feel like really anything I say might color the way the movie is viewed. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, some really stunning work there....the editing and music as well are used to incredible effect.

Well the director knows what he is doing, I know that. Granted I've only seen Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, and his film in 3 Extremes, but I haven't seen anything I did not like.

There's making changes to update or improve the movie, and then there's making changes just for the sake of making changes. The changes made in John Carpenter's version of The Thing were improvements. So were the changes made in the 1970's remake of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. The changes Rob Zombie made to Halloween felt like changes for the sake of making changes.

The Psycho remake you mentioned wasn't a very good movie because it was too slavishly loyal to the original. Rob Zombie's Halloween was total crap because it strayed too far from the original. To remake a movie and have it turn out to actually be good, you have to strike a good balance. Both Rob Zombie and the people who made Psycho failed to do so.
