You should have ignored GAH's request, and let it ride out.:o

Ahem. No. That is the Aunt Petunia Rule. I was the reason that rule came into effect. Check out the Private PM's to Aunt Petunia thread.

It would be welcomed. It has been pretty dead and boring lately.

And you guys want me to change to being a decent human being.

No, that rule was in effect long before, but it had no real reason to be enforeced until your little fiasco.

Well, with names like "Babe" and "Sexy", it's often felt as if it's moreso demeaning than anything else. It's like "What? You can't even call my by my name?"

Of course, you can sometimes negate that if you're in a committed relationship with said sexy babe. ;)
That's what I meant. It's great to be called a "sexy babe" by your significant other but when a stranger approached you and start calling you "babe" or "sexy" it's like... I dunno... it doesn't feel that good. Sure, it can be a compliment and it's quite flattering but it still catches you off guard most of the time. For me at least. I can't speak for other women.

And "hun" or "sweetie" is alright if addressed to people you know well enough... it's affectionate without sounding perverted.

I always get funny looks for calling other women 'sweetie' or 'hon'. Everyone else gets called kid though, regardless of wether I know their age, so I think its justified.

Down here its all 'my lover' or 'm'dear' which drives me nutso

It was bad when I called J-bone kid for the first time. Turned out he's abut 12 years older than me. Some people seem to find it comforting that I call them kid. The rest, well if they're that easily offended I'm probably out of luck with them.
