ROFL!!!
I always, ALWAYS burst out laughing whenever I hear that line uttered by your typical american character whenever he's in some other country or area or whatever in a movie or tv series.

What the hell is that supposed to mean, anyway?

What? The terrorist is going to let you go because you said that? The alien won't perform experiments on you because you said that?

Please

Talk about a stupid cliche :down

It can't be as popular as you suggest, I can only think of one movie in my life I've heard that.

I only remember that in The Rescuers Down Under

I only know it from Raiders "You can't do this to me! I'm an American!"

That's what I was referring to.

Ive never heard it, how can it be a cliche and I would say ive seen alot of movies in my life.

It's basically a jab at some people assuming they're immune from anything because they're American.

I hate to use it as an example, but we thought we were immune to terrorist attacks before 9/11. People were saying that **** is only supposed to happen in third world underdeveloped countries where they live in mud huts.

Maybe not in movies...but I've heard the laughable say it in real life. Education is needed for those poor souls:(

aw, dangit! i thought you were being 58% serious and only 42% joking! i guess i had you all wrong!

anyway, like some of the others here, i don't recall hearing that line very frequently... the only situations i really remember it, they were IN America to start with, so i don't think that's so rediculous (though maybe a bit redundant)... it never really bugged me, but whatever... *shrug*

Also, I was feeling a bit constipated at the time I made the thread so...
I'm sorry :(

I did a quick search and came up with three titles...

The Prince and the Showgirl: Oh this is cute: "Oh, don't give me that. I'm an American citizen, no one can do anything to me. Besides, who cares about your old Balkan revolutions, anyway? You have them all the time."

Red Corner: Richard Gere used the line apparently.

Blood Surf: Sounds like a silly title for a film to begin with.
