well here is my take on the whole CGI issue for this movie.
I should start by saying that I am desperate for htis movie to be good. I need it to be awesome and to do well at the box office because I would love the idea that these movies can be retconned. This would give me hope for DD, Punisher and yes the X-men. I am convinced that any of these movies would be much more successful if/when they are done right. (which in my book means staying close to the source material).
You may have guessed already that I hated the 03 Hulk movie. hated it.
having said that, objectivity is also very important to me. Objectively, Seeing the 08 trailer leaves me dissapointed and worried. since this is the CGI/visual thread I will only talk about that aspect of the trailer.
I've looked at the trailer carefully and even before we see the Hulk the visual effects don't look that great. The Helicopter scene for example comes off as fake. I do not belive for a second that they were actually in a Helicopter up in the air. the foreground and the background were disconnected in that obvious almost TV quality way.
the fall from the helicopter also looked blatantly CGIish.
now to the Hulk. I hate to say this but the first shot of the Hulk looked extremely CGI. the shot of his back coming out of the ground had a glow to it reminiscent of video game quality FX.
the frontal view bothered me the most. though the glow was gone,...at first he just looked weird to me. I couldn't place my finger on it.
then I realized what was wrong. the texture of his skin (which many seem to be praising) is all wrong. My friend described it best in that it looks like a WIP (work in progress). this is a term used for sculpting figurines. it describes a piece that is still rough and incomplete.
This Hulks bery much looks tha way to me. As if it needs to be smoothed out. After all, The Hulk's skin isn't supposed to be abnormal in anyway, it looks the same as human skin, only green. This doesn't look anything like human skin.
I realize that some are happy with the many little muscles look,..but unfortunately the Hulk doesn't really have that look either.
The only 2 things that please me just a bit about the visuals of that trailer were the shot of him running from behind, and the leap towards Abomination.
As for comparison bet/ 03 and 08 Though I hated the 03 Hulk,, the one thing that I was completely happy with was the look and movement of the Hulk. He would have been perfect if he was not made to be 15 feet tall

. But everything else about the Hulk himself IMHO was great.
as for the 08,..the only thing I like better about it is that the design more closely resembles the Sal Buscema version of the Hulk, Which IMO is the definitive look of the Hulk.
I truly, really hope they smooth out the CGI and make the Hulk look much better.
