I was thinking about it, Olsen sounds very nordic/scandinavian - i would like to see a foreign exchange student, or at least a young male on a gap year perhaps in metropolis plying his trade in photography - could have greeny blue eyes, strawberry blonde hair, be slightly geeky, out of his depth and therefor he and clark could have something in common.
I don't want broken english, but an accent would be fine for me!

Not much of a fan of this idea to be honest. I'm all for changing his race i suppose, but only as long as he's portrayed the same. Donald Glover would deliver the same type of performance that a white Jimmy would. So that makes him appropriate for the role. Your suggestion is a needless change that doesn't benefit the character and isn't in keeping with the traditional Jimmy Olsen. If a character like you're suggesting were to pop up in MOS2, I'd be upset if it was Jimmy Olsen.

Disagree with this completely. Based on the end of MOS, the universe they're going for is going to be setting up Clark's occupation at the Daily Planet. Jimmy is a crucial element at the Daily Planet, and one of Clark's main supporting characters. I'll be surprised if he's not somewhat involved with this movie

The happy go-lucky friend of Superman. And Jenny is not an Olsen as confirmed by Deborah Snyder.

I think her role is meant to serve as a substitution for Olsen though. That said, I doubt he'll be making an appearance in this franchise.

I would love any ethnic background for Jimmy, as long as he is teen, and I mean a real teen, not some 23 year old actor playing 17 but a honest to Zod teen, maybe 15, tops. And no pretty boy type, but a kid with some awkwardness to his physicality. Present him as a little naïve, a little wide eyed, but smart as a whip and brave as hell. Lastly, of course he should be friendly with Superman and be in awe of him, but his real hero, the person he wishes he could grow up to be because she's so damned cool to him, is Lois Lane. Why not put some meat on the bones of that relationship?

Disagree. Jimmy is just as important as Lois. He's one of Superman's links to humanity and his best friend.

I'm also all for making Jimm black.

It'd make up for Snyder taking Pete Ross and turning a black character who eventually becomes vice president into a fat white (Yes I know he was white in the early comics) manager of a pancake eatery.

I am actually for Clark revealing his ID to both Jimmy (C'mon, he's such a good kid) and Perry (He could handle it). For Jimmy, it would, like Lois, benefit the character. Other wise, yeah, him not realizing Clark is Supes does make him seem like an imbecile.

Why not?? He would be portrayed exactly the same as we all expect, besides a a sight accent.. and a nordic accent could be seen as geeky to some.

If jimmy was black, it be a needless change as in my opinion the whole being young, freckles, gingerish hair is part of the character.

If jimmy was asian, it be too much.

I'm not saying these would be wrong, i just couldn't handle them. But a name like James Olsen just screams out as a scandinavian kid.
Anyways each to their own.

Is Jimmy Olsen truly necessary for the Man of Steel-verse? I don't know. I find the whole Jimmy Olsen, Superman's bestest pal, thing kind of annoying and outdated. SR played a huge part in turning me off to the character. He was so incredibly obnoxious. Even in Superman: TAS he came off kind of iffy even though they made updates to his characterization for the time.

Even in Superman: TAS he came off kind of iffy even though they made updates to his characterization for the time.

Just call him James Olsen and make him a young photographer in his mid twenties.

Superman Earth One did a good job of making him cool.

He doesn't have to be Superman's best pal, but it'd be nice for Clark to at least demonstrate that he actually has friends besides Lois Lane his on off girlfriend.
