BvS The Jimmy Olsen Casting Thread

What do you think of the Michael Cassidy as Jimmy Olsen thing?

I know its IMDB. But what do you guys think?

Well I just saw the movie
Looks like jimmy Olsen has been confirmed by Snyder to have been that CIA guy played by Mark Cassidy. Snyder apparently wanted to shock the audiances with his death, because he felt he wasn't going to be used in a MOS sequel. Also Eisenberg was initially going to be him, before getting the Luthor role, http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/2...n?xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter

One of the biggest supporting characters in Superman lore. What a disgrace!

It's all part of the plan!

[BLACKOUT]First Robin, then Jimmy and finally Superman. Next it will be Jim Gordon, the Flash, Aquaman, etc. It's the DC ExtenDEAD Universe!

Think about it. DAWN of Justice. You know what other Zack Snyder movie has Dawn in the title? That's right, DAWN OF THE DEAD. We saw Superman's coffin begin to vibrate at the end of the movie. It's pretty obvious what Snyder is up to. In an effort to differentiate itself from Marvel, all of DC's characters will become zombies! The clues have been right in front of us the whole time![/BLACKOUT]

You heard it here first, folks.

This whole Jimmy Olsen fiasco perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with Snyder's "vision".

Indeed. Not respecting/understanding the character, doing what he did for shock value... and fumbling the execution (the only reason we know it's poor Jimmy is because the ends credits said so, and the interview).

I don't always agree with them, but a comment from Badass Digest pretty much echoes my sentiments:

"Jimmy Olsen was Superman's biggest admirer, someone who believed in Superman no matter what and looked up to him with wide-eyed optimism that reflects how we look up to Superman.

So of course Zack Snyder shot him in the head."

I didn't even realize the photographer was supposed to be Jimmy. Now I'm even more upset about this movie

Well, I loved the movie, but this Olsen thing disappointed even me. Why? What for? How? Why was it needed there? I'm not gonna demand Snyder's head for this, but why on Earth, seriously? It's pointless for shock value, since he doesn't get any real use in the movie, and many people don't even know who he is, but it's gonna enrage old fans of Superman, since Olsen was around for so long.

Still, I need to watch the director's cut to see it myself, how it was handled.

It's always a mistake to kill off a character simply because handful of decision makers think they don't have a room for the character.

LOL. Yup, that sentiment rings true to Cavill's Superman unfortunately. Snyder doesn't get Superman at all. I'm glad many are finally seeing this now after being in denial during MOS.

I honestly think Superman was in a better place ten years ago, after SR. They should have just continued that film series. Sam Huntington was probably the best Jimmy.

I had no idea that was Jimmy Olsen who is killed at the start of the movie. Hopefully this crap is retconned in a future movie.

Just say that was Jimmy Olsen's father, James Olsen Sr, and after his father passed away in Africa, Jimmy Olsen Jr later in life graduated college with a journalism degree and had a dream of following his father's footsteps and meeting the brave reporter Lois Lane, who his father heavily looked up too.

Boom, that's how you save this stupid wasteful subplot.

Nice idea. )

Plu, this gives Lois more reason to look after and be kind to Jimmy. Problem solved. Very good thinking!

This was offensive, literal character-assassination! But alas, there's no room for Superman's pal in the Snyderverse.
