The Killzone Franchise Thread

I loved Killzone 2 for about the first half of the game, when you felt like you were actually taking part in a war, after that, i felt it went off too far in a "Rambo', direction. For those that have either completed the game or played through it a good deal, does the action feel larger this time around? Do you feel like you are taking part in an epic campaign? Im thinking of picking it up today before work.

Definitely not. I love Killzone 2 for the exact same reasons, although I don't think it went all "Rambo" in the second half... just had a few missions that were away from the larger conflict.

Killzone 3, give or take a few pieces of levels is very much "Rambo" though. As fun as it is, it's lost it's identity.

Lame! Well guess I'll just check it out from work rather than buying it. Damn that's a bummer. I was really into kz2 before it diverged, sucks to hear that wasn't rectified for 3.

Why not just rent it and judge for yourself?

Got the game today. Jumped right in to the MP. Did you guys start a clan yet?

Ok. I will start one tonight and send invites to those interested. The game is very fun. My only problem, as with most FPS's, is the camping snipers are everywhere. Luckily the maps have plenty of places for you to flank them. I just hate campers though. :cmad::csad:

Just started the clan. I sent invites to Electro, Guardian (AKA :woot::awesome::o:yay::o:awesome::up: ), and TitanFan. If anyone else has the game and wants an invite, just let me know on here.

I beat the game last night. For the most part, I found it to be a very well made, enjoyable game. Honestly, I liked it a lot more than the past few COD releases. The story is decent, if not simplistic; but the characters really help move it along and make you want to fight through the levels (something that the COD games severely lack). I played the game on hard, and found myself really needing to stop and access the situation I was in, figuring out the best place to be and how to flank the bad guys, which again, is something I enjoyed better than the straightforward run and gun aspect of COD.

Speaking about the “Rambo” bit – I didn’t find any problems here. I can only think of one mission where you were on your own. Most times, you are with a platoon (or at the very least one other guy), and there is plenty of epic “war” elements and missions to give you the sense of awe and panic you don’t get with “one guy taking on an army” style game play. I think it balances the two styles very well.

The game does change up its controls (thank god!). That was my one beef with KZ2. The controls feel much more smooth and responsive, without losing the feeling that you are an actual character (instead of simply being a swiveling camera with a gun in other games).

It’s a pretty short game, but they threw a lot at you, which made me feel like the game was longer than it really was. I’d have liked for it to go on a little more (see point 3 below), but I found it to be a decent length over all thanks to the story, epic missions and over all healthy variety of missions. I also think what helps is that there is no division between missions. You get cutscenes, sure, but there aren’t any “okay, Chapter 1 is complete, let’s sit here and load Chapter 2 now” moments. Its all like a movie – it just keeps moving forward.

There are only three issues I have with KZ3:

1. Sound bugs. Good god were there a lot of bugs with the audio. If the audio sync wasn’t 3 seconds off, then there was audio getting stuck on a loop (e.g. “Try to out flank them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them! Them!”). This happened on SEVERAL occasions, which is a shame, because the quality of the audio (voices, sfx, music) was all top notch.

2. Your buddies always got in my way. Maybe its because I just wrapped up ME2 and got spoiled with their AI, but I found the AI for KZ3 to be frustrating. The AI for the Helgast were good, but my stream of bullets were constantly getting blocked by some moron who decided it’d be a good idea to stand right on top of me.

3. The ending. Really? There is absolutely no resolution or real acknowledgment that the game is over. Yeah, I get they’re trying to leave it on a cliff hanger, but if felt more like someone’s dog got hold of the script and ate half of the last page. It just….ends. Frustratingly abrupt. I haven’t been that disappointed in an ending in a looooooong time.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game. I think they fixed what they needed to from KZ2, expanded upon what was right about KZ2, and overall made a high quality game. If it wasn’t for the three points mentioned above, I’d give this game a perfect score.

9.5/10

Has anyone tried this out with the Move yet? Specifically, with the Sharp Shooter? I'm curious as to how it plays versus the DualShock.

Well i don't have the sharpshooter but i do have the Move and it is quite fun to play with it takes about a few minutes to get used to but once you get the hang of it it is pretty smooth the only problem i have had with it is Reloading and Melee everytime i try to reload i end up doing a Melee everytime i try to Melee i Reload

There are a bunch of videos on YouTube about it and all of them so far have been giving it great reviews.

Okay just finished the campaign and I must say that has to be one of the worst endings for a game ever!!!! But besides that this game is awesome!!!! I don't know why the critics were bashing on this game the story doesn't seem as bad as they described it I think the second half of the game is really fun. I just hope we get some kind od dlc because of the weird ending. I give this game a 9/10

Can't wait for killzone 4 and am interested to see where the story goes from there. Good thing we get a portable one in between.

I've only played the first 3 levels so far but I'm amused at how Rico has been rewritten. I find myself repeatedly wondering WHO THE HELL IS THIS GUY every time he says or does something that seems reasonable.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the flow of the game is off? This installment doesn't flow as well as what Killzone 2 did. Could just be me though.

I just feel they strove for variety just for the sake of variety.

I would disagree. I felt it was fine (ending aside). But I think I've going to run through the campaign again, see if that opens my eyes to anything like you're mentioning.

Hahaha so true and you know what else i realized when i finished the campaign is that they never explain what happened to Nato you don't see him at all in this Game

That's for several reasons. Like the fact it doesn't give you 5 minutes of just normal shooting before you have to be in a tank, or use a mech, or a jet pack, or some crap like that.

It's also because the cutscenes do a poor job explaining the setting. You're just suddenly there half the time and left to think "Oh... okay".

Having just finished it
I really hope Stahl survived. Malcom McDowell was a real pleasure to listen to and was probably the best character in the game so I hope to see more of his sniveling self in the future.
