This book was rubbish. I'm honestly amazed at what makes best seller lists. It felt like it was written to be a movie, which, naturally, results in terrible writing. I laughed in my English teacher's face when she said that the book maintains a heavy realism. The story is complete fantasy, and not even a good one at that. I will say, that, much like The Da Vinci Code- the film has the possibility of being far better than the almost parody level book. But much like the Da Vinci Code, I won't be shocked if the movie manages to somehow be even worse.
And a bit of a random thought, but the 2006 gangster action movie Running Scared shares a lot in common with the book the Kite Runner. The more I think about it, it seems almost like a direct adaptation (the way O Brother Where Art Thou is an adaptation of The Odyssey). No, I'm not kidding. The thing is, Running Scared is an over the top super badass action movie that knows exactly what it wants to be. The Kite Runner is literally the same thing, except that it tries to pass itself off as serious.
Edit: Damn, upon looking at the trailer, they ditched the "badass mother****er" design of the bad guy, complete with big dark sunglasses. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
