I havent seen a thread about this yet, so I hope I didnt just miss it. Anyway, I just saw the trailer and thought it looked great, especially since I loved the book. I cant wait to see the movie in theaters. What about you guys?

I haven't seen the trailer yet. Do you have a link? I haven't read the book, but I know about it and how well it's done on the bestseller lists... when I saw the poster in my local theater last week, my reaction was essentially "WHOA, they're making a movie outta that?"

Same question, anyone seen or plan on seeing this?

This book was rubbish. I'm honestly amazed at what makes best seller lists. It felt like it was written to be a movie, which, naturally, results in terrible writing. I laughed in my English teacher's face when she said that the book maintains a heavy realism. The story is complete fantasy, and not even a good one at that. I will say, that, much like The Da Vinci Code- the film has the possibility of being far better than the almost parody level book. But much like the Da Vinci Code, I won't be shocked if the movie manages to somehow be even worse.

And a bit of a random thought, but the 2006 gangster action movie Running Scared shares a lot in common with the book the Kite Runner. The more I think about it, it seems almost like a direct adaptation (the way O Brother Where Art Thou is an adaptation of The Odyssey). No, I'm not kidding. The thing is, Running Scared is an over the top super badass action movie that knows exactly what it wants to be. The Kite Runner is literally the same thing, except that it tries to pass itself off as serious.

Edit: Damn, upon looking at the trailer, they ditched the "badass mother****er" design of the bad guy, complete with big dark sunglasses. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

I heard enough of it from my friends who read it to not be interested. It shouldn't be called "The Kite Runner" it should simply be called "RAPE."

One thing's for sure, it raped my mind. I could feel the brain cells dying more and more with each page.

I never liked bestsellers but I did buy and read it. I'll give you my reason but you are gonna think I'm insane. See, since Marc Forster is directing the next Bond film I went and checked out all his other movies (Bond freak I am) and then read the book so I could see how he handles an adaptation.

As of yet I have not seen the movie but the book is just what I expected it to be. I have a degrees in Journalism and English Lit and for some reason people are always recommending me books. Thing is, when more than 3 people mention the same book to me I usually respond by being wary or being afraid and since it was on the bestseller list it made me afraid. Bestseller lists cater to the lowest common denominator. It's no measure of quality, rather it's a measure of how many morons think whatever book is good. Thing is, the more people think a book is good usually the dumber it is like The Davinci Code. My ex gf and I used to laugh at people buying it (she manages a Borders).
