The campy humor is my favorite aspect of the show, midway through Book Two now, and the general consensus is that it's completely missing in the film?

How could they do that? That's the charm. I'm definitely going to see this now, just out of morbid curiosity if it really is a bad film or just bandwagon hate.

Also, the heavily Kurosawa inspired Prince Zuko episode in Book Two is so brilliant. Pure :awesome:.

I like to think it is a pretty good gauge though. With that said, I hate using it to compare how good a film is to another.

Like I always said with RT, if a tomatometer score's very low than its definitely an indication that there's many problems with a film.

Yeah, I'm that way too, but sometimes people take the percentages way too directly.

It's an indication of exactly what it is meant to be:

Out of the number of critics N, what % of N liked the movie?

Y'know, my brother saw a trailer on TV awhile back for TLA, and it had the water monster Aang controls towards the end of Season 1, it looked AWESOME. Then afterwards we realized that wasn't in it... So lame all the crap that got cut.

Anyone know how much it's made?

Wait, did the Water Spirit get cut or did they just do away with it?

Ya know, I'm almost glad that they didn't use the big Water Spirit monster in the movie....It might've been a little bit difficult to translate IMO.

Maybe they did away with it. My brother probably just thought he saw it.

Well, how has the movie been doing Box Office wise?

I hope all the negative reviews don't effect the new animated show they're working on, "Avatar: The Legend of Korra" I think it's called.

Well, it's up to $33m domestically.

It might get to around $50-60m by the end of the weekend, which, isn't too bad...I guess.

I don't think the success of the film would have that much of an effect on the show. X3 and SM3 weren't that good but they're still churning out cartoons

I hope that M. Night comes back for the 2 sequels. He's learned his lesson a bit with this one, he'll watch this one realize what works and what doesn't. He is so passionate about this series that you can't help but give him one more shot at it. The acting will obviously improve with the 2nd hopefully the dialogue will be a bit better and that there will be no intereferences. from the studio.

His last three movies have been: Lady in the Water, The Happening, and now TLA. If he hasn't learned anything from the first two failures I wouldn't bank on him learning from the third.

To the right of the RT percentage, the average critic rating is listed. TLA got a 2.9/10. MK got a 4.4/10.

The problems with those three movies have...not quite been exactly the same IMO.

And let's not forget what I quoted earlier from one of the interviews.

I can only see it this certain way and I don’t know how to think in another language. I think these are exactly the visions that are in my head, so I don’t know how to adjust it without being me.

It doesn't seem like he ever learns, changes, adapts, whatever. He's got a certain way of film making and he's sticking with it. Get someone who's got experience with epic scale movies or can at least make movies that are fun.

It's strange hearing this from the guy that brought us Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, and Signs

 Are you kidding me? What gives you the idea that he learned his lesson, the man hasn't learned anything. Honestly, I would love a sequel but I wouldn't want M. Night anywhere near it and whomever would take over would have to somehow rectify the missing pieces/story from the first film.

I'm still in shock that the ball was dropped so hard on this, it should have been relatively easy doing a film adaption of this movie but somehow M. Night found a way to butcher the story completely and suck the fun out of the movie.

i dont believe that this guy, who actually worked awesomely with kid actors (ex: The Sixth Sense, Signs) failed at TLA....

so i was thinking; since they cut out A LOT - more than anyone thought that they would, from book 1 - what do you think they'll cut from books 2 and 3? i wonder if they'll cut out the whole earthbending competition where they find Toph. or the day of the black sun? what else?

y'know what the most frustrating part of all this is?

MNS claimed he was a FAN of the show!! that he was so passionate about it....it was his "baby," his star wars......

I remember reading some interview where he said that he got interested in show cuz of his daughter. So he started watching it and got hooked. Then his wife and mother got hooked on it. And soon it became a ritual for the family to watch the show together........or something like that....

how can someone who claimed he was such a fan of the show fail so badly at adapting it?

I heard the same thing Super-Bats. Other than the part about his mother getting hooked.
I wonder what his family thinks of the movie?

With M. Night at the helm, you can say goodbye to the earth bending competition. And I'm sure he would screw up Toph's character which would be a travesty considering how awesome that character is. :cmad:
