The Last Exorcism

I would say if someone was going to make a mockumentary with found footage then it's likely they would add music. The end kind of contradicts the whole thing anyway , it's not conceivable the footage would be found or used.

Nell using the camera isn't necessarily a direct wink to the audience , maybe it was a demon vlog or the demon was just mocking the idea of having a film crew around the house.

Except that it isnt exactly reasonable that a demon would want to have a video blog....

The entire point of having a found footage type film is to suck the audience into believing that "this is really happening for really reals ya'll". Adding music removes the viewer from that mindset, and therefore destroys the concept.

If It's found footage then yeah it would be more believable if they didnt use music . I thought of it being a documentary opposed to found footage though. it wasn't until the end I realized it was going to go the other way.

I did catch the music, but it was still very subtle for the most part.

I loved DemonCam except the whole "oh, there's blood on the lens. Ok well just wipe it off and we'll go on our way." I know the cat wasn't an essential plot point, but the characters should have been following through on stuff like that.

In addition to the cop out of "just kill the cameraman" I did *not* like that the brother was part of the occult. That and the unresolved ending is what bothered me. And then lights came up.

At least, the VERY least, give us a text graphic that says,

"The footage was mailed to authorities along with a note from the occult and their Satonic demands / beliefs. The bodies of Camerman, BoomOperator, Cotton Marcus, The Dad where found laying in the forest. Nell, nor her brother have not been heard from since."

Ya know? Just..... something.

The ending definitely sucked, but the movie was genuinely scary at times. I would have really liked some resolution with the preacher and his beliefs, particularly considering how much focus there was on his lack of faith the entire movie.

Exactly. It was not a plot driven movie. It was a character driven movie. And we were drawn so close to Marcus that we really did want to see his end result. One way or the other. And we got robbed of that.

Why would you go into this thread after the movie is already out if you haven't seen it? It's general messageboard knowledge that no one uses spoilers once it's been released! :oldrazz:

1) didn't know it was already out.
2) most people in these threads still use spoiler tags in threads for recently released movies.
3) now I'm sad. :(

I don't mean to sound like an ass, and I used ST on my first post when i resurrected this thread.

But um, in response to the above,

kinda not our fault.

:argh:

You're absolutely right, that part is not your fault.

However, mods are constantly telling people to put stuff in tags. Look at the inception thread; that movies been out for a long time now and people are still thoughtful enough to put the FREAKING ENDING in spoilers.

all I'm sayin'...

Snape kills Dumbledore
this is not like Empire Strikes Back that is 20 years old . or like 6th sense that is 10 years old.this is something that happened 2 years ago.

not a big deal to me but maybe to someone :yay:

Telling people to put stuff in tags before it is released, as far as I was aware  I wasn't purposely trying to be insensitive, but why would you go in a thread when you haven't seen it yet and it's been released? Just showing the logic I'm following, wasn't trying to be rude or un-thoughtful.

Pickles, asking for people to properly use spoiler tags is like asking for something you want but will never ever get.

Totally understand. Half my frustration is in jest. ...But the other half...

:wow: :csad: :cmad: :wall:

But like I said, i wasn't aware that the movie was out yet, so I checked out this page, just to see whats going on with the flick. Not knowing that the flick was out, I assumed anything not in spoilers was good to read...till I skimmed across Anjow's post.

Not to mention that not everyone and their mother have the chance to see a flick opening weekend, so even if I DID know it came out friday, the natural expectation that huge spoilers like the end would be put in spoiler tags is not an unreasonable assumption on my part.

Trust me Spider-Who the spoilers in here saved you from a really terrible and frustrating ending.

About the music and the unrealistically perfect camera angles/shots:

One review I read said that the movie felt like it was using the cheap documentary style out of necessity rather then to enhance the experience. That it wanted to be a traditional movie, but settled for this fake documentary style.

I think that kind of puts an interesting perspective on how the film was shot.

I would of respectfully used spoilers but it was already too late by the time I got into the thread. Sorry

The movie was pretty good. They did a good job with the atmosphere and tension. The movie was also pretty funny as well.

My only gripe is with the ending. It felt kind of tacked on or something.

I was very let down by this. Think the way they shot it was bad-it was half mockumentary, half regular movie and I think that if it had been shot straight up with a nice looking cinematographic style it would have worked better. The acting was solid, but it just never really took off to me. It was bland.

Just watched it, and yes the ending indeed sucked. However the other parts of the film was really strong, it just seems that Eli Roth had something to do with that ending lol

7/10

My only gripe with this film is that I found it to be extremely tame.
