I think Wolverine was by far better than X3 even though thats not saying much. As movies both are enjoyable but far from great. Wolverine had the benefit of not having to wrap up 2 movies before it though. Characters are wasted but you don't feel so cheated cause you didnt have 2 movies with them already. X3 ruined the whole trilogy because it had so much potential.

1) Rogue could have been the best mutant in the final fight scene stealing any mutants power but instead they take her powers away. Waste.

2) Cyclops killed off right away.

3) Professor X killed off shortly after.

4) Giving Storm all the extra screen time just cause Halle Berry demanded it. Looks at Halle Berry's credits, she's never been in any blockbusters. It's ridiculous for her to demand more screen time and even more ridiculous the studio said ok kill off other characters to give it to her.
Obviously nobody was dying to see her as Catwoman, I don't know why they thought we were dying to see her as Storm.

5) Angel was a big joke, he did absolutely nothing. The teaser poster had him in and X-men uniform for god sake.

6) Iceman turn into a cube for 3 seconds and punch pyro, thats all the action you get. Well except for cheating on rogue, never mind, the kiss was a deleted scene.

It seemed like in X-men 3 they didn't add mutants, the just replaced them. Go away cyclops, its icemans turn, get out of here rogue, kitty pride is taking your place. No room for you nightcrawler, we have beast now. Get out of the camera shot colossus, we dont want to pay for your CGI. Wolverine go kill Jean Grey. We cant afford her contract anymore. A bunch of other stuff too but you get the point

I can understand why someone would loathe X-Men 3 and Wolverine equally, but really, how can so many people think that Wolverine was actually better than X-Men 3? (Well, technically it's only leading by 10 votes, so I guess we need more data.) The acting in Wolverine was a VERY noticeable downgrade from X-Men 3, and the pacing was horrendous. Unlike X-Men 3 which actually had action scenes that were building up to a climax, Wolverine was just a mindless string of events which served virtually no purpose. I mean, WHY does Wolverine have a boxing match with blob? That was the most useless scene I've ever seen in a movie, and yet they spent who knows how many millions of dollars making it...

X-Men 3 felt epic. The stakes were high, the action was on a grand scale, and however briskly paced it was, it at least had character development, even if it was miniscule compared to the first two movies. In Wolverine, the characters are all cardboard cutouts, and they never actually do anything with them because they're too busy throwing more mutant cameos in.

I consider X3 to be a "pretty good movie." It's not great as X2 was, but it's still enjoyable and left me feeling like it was a satisfying bookend to the trilogy. With Wolverine though, it was a mediocre piece of trash. At best it was an afterthought for the trilogy, where they could dump all the characters who they couldn't fit into the trilogy without worrying about wether they were worth caring about. "As long as the fanboys get to buy an action figure of them, they'll be satisfied!" seemed to be the logic behind this film. I see no reason for it to exist, and in my mind, it is not canon to the trilogy.

Both movies had the same amount of good and bad stuff. So, I'll go with they both equally suck. :o

I give this round to X3, which surprises me.

I'll have to think about it, but X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't have a scene nearly as well done as the Xavier vs. Phoenix dual, and I don't even like The Last Stand.
This plus X-3's music beats Wolverine. Hell the music beats Wolverine on its own.

X3>XO:W

X3 felt like a theatrical movie, a bad one.

Wolverine felt like a Sci-Fi channel movie, a bad one. Since this movie is the most expensive X-film to date, where did all that $ go? It certainly wasn't into the fx, which were mediocre at best.
Are you serious? Wow, guess Hollywood money isn't what it used to be...

I'm actually surprised it is the close right now. The film is new, so I figured the excitement would carry it to victory. I think a poll like this needs a year before you can ask. People's feelings on the film will be set by then. Some will dislike the movie with subsequent viewings, others will like it more. But right when a movie comes out is not the time to compare it to another film. Especially when feelings are mixed.

I thought Wolverine was miles better than X3. And I don't hate X3, I just thought this movie was much better.

You'll get over it. It's like a new happy meal toy.:o

Plus, this time Wolverine has an excuse to steal the spotlight. :cwink:

Catman I can't really elaborate on how fantastic your avvy is.

True which is why X3 among other things is a far worse film than X2, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying X3 is better than X2 or 1, its just better than Wolverine as a film imo.

Its just that I think the characters in Wolverine for the most part weren't developed well at all. They had a couple of lines and then you kept getting pulled towards the end going through badly put together set pieces layered with weak CGI.

I personally just think X3 is atrocious and I cant imagine Wolverine being as bad, i'll see in a few days I guess.

After watching the x-men trilogy I went straight to the cinema to watch Wolverine. And I have to say this one goes to Wolverine. Logan is more bad a$$ in this movie and the movie is less silly and disrespectful than X-3. It also has less cringeworthy and head scratching scenes than X3.I give X-3 2/5, X0W with 2.5/5. And it made me more excited about a Wolvie sequel than an X4 sequel.

X3 is way better.

While in both the script sucked and X3 destroyed the characters, at least it was fun to watch, and had the best scene of the entire trilogy, in my opinion.

I have to agree with Nell that when X3 was right, it was one of the best of the trilogy. It's just a pity that it was wrong far more than right.

But yes, in X3 you would stil get in the edge of your seat during the final battle, or when Xavier is killed (even though i knew it would happen, it was a very powerful scene. You could hear people sniffing in the cinema during his funeral). We finally saw the X-Men making a grand entrance to a battle. We saw Magneto being amazing as always. We saw a good haircut for Storm (:p), and she actually flew and did some good action. Phoenix was a turd, but the actual explanation as to why she was Phoenix was great (the best explanation they could come up with, imo). Xavier stopped being a saint, etc. There were good scenes, and the action was very well done.

Wolverine couldn't get past common-places and a formulaic plot. Cheesy scenes, ****ing up Logan's defining line (yes, I think it was terribly delivered), major plot holes, boring, repetitive action. And when you see Singer's vision of the Weapon X experiment, and then look at this film...it looks like one of those kids books from The Dark Knight:

edit: believe me, after the director was announced for Wolverine, i truly thought it was going to be better than any X-Men movie to date, I was even a little bit bitter. You had a great director, amazing cast, Gambit, what seemed to be a good script, and a whole film dedicated to Wolverine, and him alone. I didn't even know HOW it could go wrong.

Wolverine is better, only because I had high expectations for The Last Stand and went into Wolverine with my expectations pretty low. Both films were uneven and poorly executed though.

This is like a contest asking which pile of dog poop smells worse.

Wolverine is light years better.

X3 for me. Both of these movies pretty much some up the low point of the X-Men franchise, action over substance with terrible scripts and rushed pacing. But the sfx were better in X3, and its storyline felt a bit more coherent.

I think we should have this poll again in a few months, when the "new movie smell" has worn off of Wolverine. When that happens, I think people will realize that it's a shadow of X3, and an even more empty shadow of X2.

If X2 was Wrath of Kahn, and X3 was Search for Spock, then Wolverine would almost certainly be The Final Frontier.

I didnt feel as ripped off when watching Wolverine as I did with the Last stand.

Sure both have great suckyness, but Wolverine in my book was a far better movie...plus I just dont like halle barry.

Or maybe they really did just like it better than X3. :cwink:
