Now I don't whether you're serious or not due to the use of :o .
Isn't that the emoticon for embarrassment? You actually doubt my sincerity because I used it?

Okay lets try this again. I misread your post and I apologize for misreading it and responding to something you didn't even infer.

Any word of this soundtrack coming out on vinyl? I know Disney's vinyl releases are few/far between but I'm keeping my fingers crossed

That is the sarcasm emoticon. This is the embarrassment emoticon: :O

Its made with an uppercase O.

Hover over it and it says sarcasm, what you really intend to say could mean the exact opposite. Smileys, a powerful thing.

It's actually the sarcasm emoticon. Well anyways, apology accepted.

2m was the opening, so I stand corrected.

Still whatever missteps this film had, it doesn't hold anything on the 81 film which effectively killed any interest in the character, and also in making westerns, which no one really makes anymore.

Not really. We've seen Open Range. Unforgiven. True Grit. Every once in a while we do see successful westerns.

I think what is dead are these high concept popcorn movie versions of westerns. See Wild Wild West. Cowboys vs. Aliens. And now Lone Ranger.

Yeah, the :o is put to good use when I'm being a smarmy, deadpan ***hole. I've got a copyright and you ALL owe me royalties. :o

The last Disney vinyl I got was the soundtrack to Mary Poppins. And that was because CDs weren't invented yet.

Well I've been using that emoticon wrong. I thought it was used for two things or something.

The real question is Sawyer, When aren't you being a smarmy, deadpan *******? :oldrazz:

That's why most of us call that emoticon "the Sawyer". :cwink:

I loved the little nods to Merricone in the score. Also, right before the bandits raid Rebecca's house it gets really quite and then quail fly up out of the brush. That was a nod to a similar scene in Once Upon a Time in the West. I'm sure there are other visual and audible nods, but I'll have to look when it comes out on blu-ray.

I am hoping that something about the film might convince me that Hammer could be Batman.

Just came back from watching this movie. I wished he was the new Superman. I hated Cavil as Superman, the guy can't act his way out of a paper bag, would explain why his lines were so short compared to the other actors, but throughout all of The Lone Ranger, I kept on thinking, damn, this guy. 6'5", gorgeous, charisma, and the guy can act, he can really act, he would have been the perfect Superman.

For me it's on the same level as the first Pirates movie (the only one I really like/re-watch).

Few random thoughts about it:

- It's long and it feels long. This is because [BLACKOUT]The device they use to offer exposition adds about 15+ minutes. It's my least favorite part of the movie but I completely understand why they did it: for kids[/BLACKOUT]

- There's a lot of humor, and most of it got loud laughs in my screening (packed theater)

- All of the iconic Lone Ranger tropes are included and I mean ALL of them. Best part is they apply them very well in terms of the story itself. It's way less campy than I expected.

- William Fichtner is phenomenal

- The William Tell Overture still gives me chills

Agree, William Fichtner was hardly recognizable. In fact, only way I knew it was him because of his voice. And I also agree with the "The William Tell Overture", the scene on the train was freaking awesome. This movie may very well give my favorite of the year, Star Trek, a run for it's money. And I would have to say, the villain in this one, or villains I should say, are probably the best villains of the year so far.

Disney got to be worried. They hoped to reach 65m may not reach 60m. The showing
I attended maybe 10 at most 15 in a huge theater. Despicable kicking its tail. Universal could
be looking at 100m 5 day weekend. While Lone Ranger not a terrible flick does not distinguish itself as I must see.

Pretty much yeah, in the end, only my opinion counts, but critics do have a toxic influence overall.

This is true. When at my theater, there were some people behind me, and at the end, one of them started to say how she read in the paper that the movie was atrocious, and she couldn't belive how wrong the critics were.

Looks like TLR recovered a bit. Looking at a 12M Wednesday and about 60-65 for the holiday. Not great, but much better than I expected from a weak preview showing on Tuesday.

I agree Hammer did a good job. The only complaint I had was his western drawl was sort of in and out. Sometimes good other times maybe not as
strong. I guess you say that being away studying or what every he was doing could cause it to fade in and out.

I'm surprised that Disney would open TLR vs DM2. Why didn't their analysts see that DM2 would have a 100 mil OW? This is a serious blunder.

No, what I meant was in the 70s there were tons of westerns. When the 81 Lone Ranger bombed it not only destroyed interest in the character, but in making Westerns. There were a few in the 80s like Pale Rider and Silverado, but compared to what they were in the 60s and 70s.

This wasn't great , but I did have a lot of fun. I think Hammer and Depp played really well of each other. The cast all do a good job. William Fichtner almost stole the show for me. I didn't like Hammer's character at first , but he does grow into the hero you want by the end of the film. The film looks amazing and it was awesome to hear the old theme being used. They made some strange decisions that didn't work for me though. The carnival scene was beautifully shot. However seeing old man Tonto narrate the story to a young boy is distracting , pointless , and somewhat depressing. The movie is surprisingly dark at times. They use the little boy to balance that , but it just doesn't work. We have enough humor from Johnny Depp. I did like learning Tonto's origin though. So there was a lot I liked , but it could of been done better in some areas. I didn't understand the mysticism aspect , but I think it could lead into the werewolf idea. I don't know if they'll make a sequel , but I am hopeful. The last action sequence was worth the price of admission

I agree, they should have picked a better date. I think this film would have faired better in August.

Oh definitely. Butch to me is the best villain of any big budget movie out this year by a mile (so far at least).

Went back today to see it. Loved it even more. It's just so damn fun, and after MOS and Star Trek I needed a fun summer movie.

If they had lost the narrative stuff and cut about 10 minutes out of the second act it would have clocked in a about 110 minutes which is perfect.

From what i recall disney had the slot first. Could be mistaken though.
