Arrow The Malcolm Merlyn Thread

He definitely plays a prominent role in season 3. I'm almost through it now on Netflix. I hope we see more of him in 4.

Season three was okay until Malcolm showed up. Let's see if the writers have really learned their lesson.

Well, his seeming role for this season doesn't strike me as *inherently* problematic. Combine that with the writing being generally much better these last two episodes, and I'm hopeful.

I think the problem for me was more about the other characters handling of Malcolm than anything, I don't want anyone to put any trust in him since he was various levels of responsible for almost every bad thing that happened last season. Oliver's handling of Malcolm was just irresponsible on all counts, he should have just conceded and let the League have him. My main thing with Malcolm this season is I really want him to have to finally face the full consequences of his actions in season 1 and 3, I'd love to see him get dragged down to the point of having nothing left at the end of the season. Though as long as his role is not detrimental to the season I'll be happy.

I enjoyed Malcolm in season 3. He was menacing and poses as a villain who is almost impossible to stop. One of the reasons why I like him. Even though gradually towards the end of season 3, he was mostly good, at least we think that in spite of him killing Sara.

So we haven't seen much of him in season 4, but will he be around and plot another evil plan?

The fact that we've seen so little of Malcolm means that once he shows up again, he'll probably be in every episode until the finale. Hooray.

It's always good to get a break from certain characters, regular villains. But looks like Malcolm is back in the coming Flash-Arrow crossover episodes. What would he have to do with Vandal Savage?

I hope Malcolm dies this season.

Nah. If he dies this season, he's still in fairly good standing with Thea and even Oliver. He needs to burn every bridge possible between him and them this season (saving Vandal Savage might've done that, but they don't know about it yet), and then have him become a true villain again. Pit them against each other one more time. Have either Oliver or Thea finish of Merlyn for good. But so help me, if he dies heroically saving Thea from DD or something...

If he hasn't burned every bridge by all the ***** he has already done...then I don't know what he can do to fall from "good standing".

I hope somebody...anybody takes him out.

:nuhu: Malcolm adds spice to the show. He's creepy but his character has depth. Damien Dark is good, but what have yet to see any detailed background of his character and what drives him.

I don't think Malcolm particularly needs to die. I mean, morally speaking, he deserves it, but his death wouldn't serve the narrative especially. He's safely shuffled off to Nanda Parbat where he can do his ninja clan leading, only showing up when its actually relevant for someone's subplot.

"Arrow" star John Barrowman has struck a deal with The CW that makes him a series regular across all of the network's superhero shows.

The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow were mentioned by name, but it's conceivable he could show up on Supergirl and Vixen as well.

I think this is good news. His presense has been a bit of a distraction on Arrow the last few years. This way he can stay on my TV screen without necessarily bogging down Arrow the whole season long. Maybe 4-5 Arrow episodes, 1-2 Flash, 2-3 Legends, 1 Supergirl?

Having characters specifically set to move between the shows makes it all feel a little more connected, as opposed to just having them show up in designated crossover storylines.

I'm concerned that they will overexpose Malcolm Merlyn. What use is he going to be in Supergirl since she's from another universe?

I hope he gets put into a bit more of a villainous role, then. His best episode in S4 was the one where he was at conflict with Oliver and the rest of the team, and after Oliver cut his hand off and he became a villain again I appreciated him much more. Merlyn should not have ever been an anti-hero after S3 ended. Actually, I think S3 should've ended with Oliver refusing to give him the ring, despite his promise, and thus burned his bridges with Merlyn then. Merlyn's role in S3 was fine, it was just Oliver's stupidity at handing over the ring that made things unbelievable there. If he'd had a grudge against Oliver for not giving him the ring and borne that grudge throughout S4, that would've been much better, I think.
