This has already been disputed, Zendaya nor Amandla would not go for a Latina role, it would go against everything they stand for, the character is either new or old.

As stated no other outlet other than deadline has stated the name Michele, just like TheWrap are the only source to state Tony's character was named Manuel, which was confirmed by someone on Instagram who went in for the part, but the fact that the name was 'Manuel Nyugen', a latino first name and a vietnamese last name, shows it is a cover name.

I was NOT making an argument that Zendaya is Michele. The poster BatsDC made the remark that people would be upset that there isn't any real characters being used and my statement was to clarify that Michele Gonzales is, in fact, an actual character from the 616 universe.

It does happen, mostly with casting calls. And to begin with the whole Michele thing was only stated by one source as like an offhand comment. No one else ever brought up that name or named her character.

Oh, I was under the impression Zendaya herself confirmed her character is Michele. Well, in that case, she could definitely be MJ. If so, I'm all for it

Some people are speculating that MJ is not even in this movie, but we don't even know if the whole cast has been revealed to make that claim nor would it match up with Jon Watts reading material/comic inspiration.

But who knows, maybe everything is going slowly and some characters including MJ are gonna be used later on.

If she is MJ, they should just not bother to dye her hair red. Zendaya looks better as she is without having unnatural red highlights or if it's completely red. We'll all know anyway that this version of the character within the MCU (if she's played by Zendaya) won't have natural red hair but that it is just a dye job.

Move over proper characterization and essence of the character, we need a natural redhead for the role or else we're rebooting the entire franchise under Fox this time! Screw Marvel, Sony and Fox is a collab made in Heaven! Just look at how great Fan4stic turned out. They can easily apply that masterpiece of a formula to Spider-Man and rake in the dough.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield weren't Peter Parker because their eyes weren't hazel, hence why we've had an abrupt end and reboot in those specific series'. Tom's next.

Except MJ is a natural redhead. Zendaya is biracial, so maybe MJ inherited it from her mother? Point is, an MJ who isn't a redhead would be ridiculous, it's such an iconic visual aesthetic to the character. It'd be like not having a Red & Blue Spider-Man.

the actress herself doesn't need to have natural red hair. that's what hair dye or a wig are for.

the character, however, should be a natural redhead. she should not be a character who dyes her hair red or just has red streaks.

fidelity to the iconic look of the character.

technically, you could have a blond Superman or a blond Batman. changing their hair color would not change their character, as you say.

but you would never see a blond Superman or Batman ( unless in an elseworlds tale ) because those characters have such iconic looks that are ingrained in the public's mind.

I think that one Cosmopolitan cover proves that Zendaya would look fine with red hair as long as its some shade of auburn.

I say just have her dye her hair a dark auburn and act as if it is her natural hair color in the movie. As it was already mentioned, it is possible for someone who is biracial to have red hair.
