and if she is still MJ, then why bother? MJ is supposed to be smoking hot. And Zendaya is beautiful and can pull off smoking hot model look.

and then they just go and make her all frumpy and reserved to downplay her beauty.

that's not the character of MJ - never mind her ethnicity.

If Zendaya is indeed playing Mary Jane, perhaps she will have the hair from the set photos throughout most of the movie and at the end she comes to Peter's door (maybe because they are about to go to the homecoming dance) rocking the long red hair and says the face it tiger line.

1) Zendaya is most likely not playing a character called 'Michele', that is/was an audition name 2) People keep suggesting White Tiger or Michelle Gonzales from the comics but Zendaya is not Latina.
