The Matrix Resurrections

I HATE Speed Racer and Jupiter Ascending, but Cloud Atlas is a flawed masterpiece. I may like it even more than The Matrix.

And what a cast!

I'll admit, I really haven't watched any of the Wachowskis movies besides the Matrix trilogy. Thinking about watching Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer though.
I'd recommend Bound and Cloud Atlas. Bound is their best movie after The Matrix.

Speed Racer is insane. It took me many years to go from hate to somewhat liking it for what it is.

Apparently the makeup artist leaked the title of the film on Instagram and deleted it. It seems to be called
Matrix Resurrections

There's also photos as proof with all the green symbols coming down and such but I know we're not allowed to post. She recieved a cool jacket with all the symbols on the inside too.

Isn't it just "Matrix"?

I think "Matrix" is probably just the public placeholder until they're ready to officially reveal the title. I buy it.

I mean....I kinda dig it. The series was always pretty on the nose with the Neo = Jesus motif, and he died in the last one. It would actually be weird if they didn't lean in on the symbolism of the resurrection part of Neo returning.

I do wonder why they dropped the "The" though.

Well I finally rewatched Revolutions last night after a long long time and I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought. I don't know what it is, I think maybe the main trio isn't together as much, the character interactions are dull and uninteresting, the action was not as fun... I don't know, I don't know.
I'd watch Reloaded any day of the week though.

I'm convinced a big part of the reason Revolutions is just not as enjoyable as Reloaded is because there's so much "real world," and not enough Matrix. And and the main appeal of the series was always the Matrix - that wish-fulfillment factor. BUT I think despite that, Revolutions may actually be the better film of the two (though I haven't seen either in years so don't hold me to that, lol). Just...not nearly as fun.

It could be, it could be. Even the Matrix stuff was kinda meh, like the first shooting scene in the club with the upside down room. It wasn't as well made. I also think they could've done more with Smith in the real world, it felt like a wasted opportunity. Specially considering how Reloaded ended, with that cliffhanger.

I'd recommend you rewatch it then. :funny:

Reloaded is like Dead Man's Chest for me. Not as good as the original, not without flaws, but still a very good and enjoyable movie in its own right and holds up.

The ridiculous constantly over the top action sequences alone make Reloaded for me. They were like "now what do we do? Easy we have Neo fight 100 Smiths with a pole"

haha that fight is legendary. Never gets old.

Still love when Neo saves Morpheus on the freeway!

There's a sense of fun in Reloaded that Revolutions lacks.

I still really enjoy Revolutions, but I get why some may consider it boring. It's a different kind of film than the first 2.

Correct me if I’m wrong but most of 3 takes place in the blandness of the “real world”. Our Matrix is all but gone by that point, so the fun of seeing Neo do “superhuman” things in the Matrix is no longer as thrilling.

Personally i always enjoyed Revolutions while Reloaded got old pretty fast. Been a while since I watched any of them though.

I usually rewatch the sequels with The Animatrix as an "intermission" between the two films. The sequels are rather dry in delivery, so the animated series is a nice change of pace. Plus I really love Second Renaissance and Program episodes. I like the rest too.

This.

I used to love Revolutions as a kid, but now it's the least rewatchable of the 3 for me.

Mainly because of the too much "real world" scenes. The dark and moody setting of the machine world makes it difficult to enjoy.

Reloaded, however is very entertaining for me, as it has plenty of Matrix scenes.

The biggest issue I have with the sequels is how overpowered Neo became and how nerfed the agents became. A big part of why the original was so great was that at best you could hold an agent off for a bit but ultimately they would win, hence why running was the smartest option. Neo overcoming that at the end and finally defeating Smith felt great - the character had grown and he fulfilled his destiny.

However when you start off Reloaded and have Neo yawning and fending off 2 agents with 1 hand in the first 5 minutes, it just deflated a lot of the tension that there would actually be any danger. The highway scene was great IMO because Neo wasn't present (until the end) and Trinity and Morpheus still felt human, which made those scenes great. I still enjoy Neo fighting Smith(s) in that yard, and the Chateau fight scene, but I never thought he was in any real danger.
