The Matrix Resurrections

Yeah, this doesn't really add up with all comments online I've seen from random people who have seen the film.

For one thing, everyone is saying the action is bland, non-inventive and exciting and that the wirework is quite notice-able.

Another reason never to trust these inflated early tweets.

So judging by early reactions…

The film is awesome and thought provoking, but also mediocre and a rehash of what we’ve seen before that brings nothing new to the series. The action is jaw-droppingly awesome but also bland and fake. People will love the film, but also hate it to the point where it will make the polarization of the DCEU look like a polite argument about whether pineapple is a good pizza topping.

Sounds like a Matrix sequel!

Sounds like this film has everything!

I thought action was mediocre.

In the first movie it was short and to the point, fueled by storytelling. In 2-3 they really wanted to show off. It was complex, imaginative, but didn't really advance the story further, so it kinda dragged. In M4 it just doesn't do anything interesting and the best bits were shown in the trailers. Plus there are too many fast cuts.

Yep, i read about the editing and fast-cuts too.

That's disappointing - especially for a franchise that re-defined action in cinema.

Even the sequels brought fresh and jaw-dropping sequences like the Burly Brawl, Chateau, highway chase and Neo vs. Smith (final battle).

I'm wondering if a lot of general audience feedback will be more positive if they opt to watch it on HBO Max. It's a lot easier to hate on something you don't like if you left your home and paid $20+ for tickets and snacks to see it as opposed to just staying in the comfort of your living room, but that's just me.

Might explain my warm reception to Space Jam 2.

Good point!

Soundtrack is out

Unfortunately, the good stuff here seems to be very scarce and the ones that stick out are mostly the Don Davis re-used themes.

The rest that Klimek and Tykwer wrote, sounds like generic Junkie XL sounds that many blockbusters nowadays have.

I will need to hear it within the context of the film, but currently not blown away how i was from Davis' phenomenal scores.

I'm skimming around, don't wanna listen to it all before I see the film, but I will say-- while it does sound like a modern score, I'm pleased with the amount of references to Davis' score I hear in there. I doubt it's going to touch Davis' work, but I'm curious how it works in the film.

I also really really hope they reprise Trinity's theme. I'm not hearing it anywhere so far, but again, just skimming around. Considering how important she is to the story it would be a huge missed opportunity not to.

When I was listening to the leaked score by Michael Giacchino for No Way Home, there were parts of it that made me think, “Man, this sounds like it could be from The Matrix. Wish he had scored the new one.”

I wonder what's there to hate about it since i've seen that word thrown about a bit.
From the trailers i thought it looked a meh rehash and didn't really find it that appealing, but there's a difference between disliking and hating something. I'm actually intrigued on what all the fuss is about because i see some people tip toeing around certain stuff which i'm still trying to figure out.

The one review I saw, which was nice since it was two people with a different opinion, said the tone of the movie is going to really shock some people.

What a stupid release strategy that was. So ridiculous and stupid.

Well, with Omicron tearing its way through the U.S., it looks like this thing is going to be seeing more action on HBO Max than in theaters anyway.

Which it still could have with a theatrical window.

Hopefully. America needs to be more responsible.

Really? I think the opposite would be true. If you’re paying for it, you’re rooting for it more. You wouldn’t go to that effort if you weren’t already invested in some capacity. At home there’s lots of hate watching and distractions going on. People are more prone to pay less attention and give less of a chance to just turn to something else if they lose interest.

But maybe you're right. At home you're less invested so maybe less critical.

I think it depends on how often you go to the theater. If you only go a few times a year then you want to make each visit count. You would probably have a higher standard for what passes as “good” too, if seeing it in theaters vs at home.

For me the home experience will never match the cinema experience. Despite how much I love the comfort of my own home.

It varies. I've rooted for plenty of movies in the past before seeing them in theaters and still came out disappointed.

So with how busy the holiday season is, me and a couple of buddies have decided we are seeing No Way Home and Resurrections back to back on the 26th for a mega-movie day just to ensure that we can see both together.

This next week is gonna be tough for me avoiding all the spoilers lol. I've already had leaked cam thumbnails from NWH pop up on my YouTube feed. It's just disgusting. The release of big films, between all the clickbait nonsense, spoilers, annoying discourse really hammers home everything I hate about the current day internet.
