The MCU isn't Earth 616

The MCU is not 616 it is a different and alternate universe its their own world its not an adaptation of the 616 world one of the examples of the differences between MCU and 616 is that The Avengers in the MCU are the most older team and Fantastic Four and the X-Men. dont existed before of them Spiderman is more younger and not an Adult like his 616 version and Mary Jane Watson dont exist instead the equivalent of this world is Michelle Jones

For the life of me, I cannot understand why people want or care about the MCU being part of the comics multiverse. What's the appeal?

It's not so much that I want it to be part of the comics multiverse in the sense that it would have to adhere to the rules established there or for it to cross over with the comics or anything like that. It's just annoying that talking about Marvel's "earth 616" now requires additional clarification. I've constantly used "616" as a descriptor for the main comics universe when comparing the MCU to the comics by saying things like "In the MCU so far it's like this, if they follow 616 it should play out this way, though they could also go the Ultimate route". And it's also annoying for classification on things like wikis that have separate articles for versions of things from different universes if two universes officially have the same designation.

But other franchises with multiple continuities get by just fine without numerical designations.

If you want to refer to a specific 616 universe all you have to say is either "the comics 616" or "the MCU 616". "In the MCU 616 so far it's like this, if they follow the comics 616 it should play out this way, though they could also go the Ultimate route".

A universe is a physical place within a continuity, and that physical place has a name within that continuity. It's really no different than any other location name being shared between different continuities. If I'm talking about the MCU New York versus the TMNT 90s movies New York, I just refer to which version of New York I'm talking about. Same goes for universes.

I'm a comic fan, but let's be real. More people have engaged with the MCU then they have the comics since it's inception. If you talk to someone on the street, the likelihood is, they have no idea what 616 is. They will more likely know what the MCU is.

For those aware of the 616, the distinction isn't difficult. The overwehelming majority of people simply say MCU anyways, so I don't understand this argument one bit.
