Man, I wish the premiere hadn't been this early. Now I have to wait two more weeks knowing the movie is really good.

It seems like everything they have been working for, for the past 8 years really comes down to this. Which is really awesome, because we said the same thing about The Avengers back in 2012 and we'll say the same thing in 2018 when Infinity War comes out.

If you don't end up thinking the film is overrated.

Haha not sure if I want to test that theory. Really they gave me a raise because of how good I've been doing here. They want to bring in people under me and move me up in the company. Just so happened to have this conversation on a day I came in late. Super excited though, always nice when hard work is acknowledged and rewarded.

Pretty soon you'll lead your own department in that whole native American chest-thumping thing from Wolf of Wall Street.

Maaaaaaaaan, those king size Reese Peanut Butter Cups with bits of peanuts in them are glorious!!! :hmr:

I hate the 6th boss in Adventure Island II, and the ice slippery floor.

I have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed by the Doctor Strange trailer. I mean, I wanted trippy visuals and I got them, so I was overall satisfied, but I think I was just hoping for more...color. I mean it's just a teaser and I'll still probably enjoy the movie, but I really was hoping for Derrickson to go a bit further "out there" with the general aesthetic.

Oh well, these Civil War reviews are making up for it quite nicely.

Agreed. The trailer didn't really impress me.

Surprised at the Strange, no pun intended, reaction in some quarters around here. I enjoyed what I saw given it's a teaser.

And to any that care TO BE CONTINUED should be up on iTunes very soon along with us being Google searchable now, though you have to put in To Be Continued A Fanboy Podcast.

I very rarely like teasers. This one's ok but I don't really see the point of showing things so early in the process when there's little of note to grab anyone's attention.

So apparently Tim Burton's Batman is in talk for a role to play in the Spider-Man movie.
I want him to accept, especially after what he said in the Jimmy Fallon show. Search 'Batman Never Cries'.

To me it looked like a phase 1 film. A formulaic origin story. I expect it to be at least serviceable, but that trailer doesnt make me think its the next big thing in the MCU.

Hopefully the next trailer changes my mind.

I'm not against getting more origin stories (and I really hope they don't gloss over Captain Marvel's when the time comes). Only issue I had with it was the apparent visual approach. But it's fine, that's hardly a deal-breaker.

Speaking of that, wonder how they will handle her origin.
Mar-Vell is an important component in her origin story, but could they skip over his character and just give Carol the powers? Or could they do something like giving her Monica Rembau's origin?

I hope they keep her traditional origin largely intact, Mar-Vell and all. At least the broad strokes. I don't need to see an actual romance between them but Carol is always out to honor her friend's memory and when she takes up the mantle, she does it largely in service of that idea. It would be a shame to lose that aspect, imo. The only big change I'd be all for is if he dies directly as result of explosion that gives Carol her powers. Maybe not instantly, but gets terminally ill from it, as a kind of nod to his actual death in the comics. Then he could be the one to encourage her to take his title before he dies, too. It's just cleaner that way, imo.

And I hope they wouldn't give her Monica's origin because Monica deserves to show up in the MCU at some point too. She's awesome.

That is similar to my hope as well. I think given how not well known her origin is that it would be a great swerve to the audience out there. "Oh... You thought this movie's hero was the cool alien guy that this female Air Force officer meets? Nope. SHE'S the hero that is going to defeat the bad guys in the end."

Yeah, there's definitely a part of me that would love an A-lister to be cast as Mar-Vell, and for the GA to be taken off-guard when the "love interest" of the movie turns out to be the Captain Marvel in the title, lol. But then again, I also want Carol front-and-center carrying this movie in the promo and would hate to see any financial success it may find get attributed to some "switcheroo" that tricked audiences into seeing it with the false promise of a male hero or something, so I realize that's probably not the best way to go about it.

Since she's being cast this summer, I'm gonna assume she's in Infinity War: Part 1 until we're told otherwise. So I'm still gonna stick to my theory that they'll move some of her origin to that movie (at least establish her character and relationship w/ Mar-Vell), so that she's 100% Captain Marvel for the majority of her solo film.

My take on that is I'm hoping they are still doing a good amount of work on the visuals. That film just wrapped so it's nice to get a teaser and it really didn't tell a damn thing about the plot. So it will be cool to see more later. I really liked it though.

I wish fans would understand that teaser trailers are at best appetizers. We expect so much too often. It's a first glimpse folks.

I understand that, but I'm talking the general aesthetic. There's an inherent blandness there in the cinematography that I was not expecting. That's not gonna change with more FX shots. I really expected more color, a la GotG, considering the wild, outlandish nature of Dr. Strange's world(s). But like I said, it's hardly a deal-breaker for me.

I guess it's an eye of the beholder thing. I like that it so far looks different from the other MCU films, and thought things like the way the shots of Strange in different times match up through out, from his time as a surgeon to his wandering desperate phase. That seemed far from bland to me but as I said, eyes and beholder sand all that. Honestly I rarely pay attention to color palettes unless the film goes WAY out of it's way to highlight that. It rarely ever comes to my mind, even when I notice it in a film. Sure, it can affect things like the general tone sometimes for me but usually I just accept the look more or less and move on myself.

I'm hoping that Dr Strange shows us visuals more like Nightmare on Elm Street than any MCU movie we've seen. The visuals for magic should be a chance for them to show a constantly shifting landscape where crazy things can happen. You drop a rock in the other MCU movies and it hits the ground. In Dr Strange, the rock could turn into a bird or fly upwards instead.

I'm kind of hoping that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 teases the Captain Marvel film.

Maybe introduce Mar-vell in the film.
