Man, backing up is important as hell. I lost 250 GB of DJ tunes when my last drive crashed. Now I'm paranoid as f*** so I have a 3 TB external, 1 TB external, 1 TB on my laptop, a 128 GB thumb drive, and I have a few homies I trust that I back up my ish on their stuff periodically as well. Never again will I lose tunes.

I have my writing backed up in three places...

Of course saving it in a universally recognized file would have been more useful. :( Stupid .docx files

Lol. I don't want to buy a gun. But if somebody gives one to me, I'd accept it.

Man, you don't ever accept a gun someone "gives" to you. Are you out of your damn mind? That's how you get set up on a murder charge fool.

I'm planning to get a Blu-ray burner to start backing up files on rewritable Blu-ray discs soon as well.

That's way dated tech homie, external's are dirt cheap now. Hell, I keep seeing 1 TB SSD for less than $500 now which is crazy. I just want them to come down another hundo or so before I jump on it. I'm always watching for the deals though, Amazon Prime sometimes has killer ones.

Spending hundreds of dollars on storage is just too much for me. Bring the price down.

Until then, I will store my video files by drawing them out on cave walls.

Family videos and videos you work hard on to make deserve to be treated nicely.

i don't give a crap about backing anything up besides my music. If I have a pic or video I put it up on Bookface and it's there forever. Music is the only important thing worth backing up.

I already have an external 1 tb that is nearly filled up. Blu-Ray RW's would be long term storage that isn't frequently updated. That way I won't have to add even more harddrives. I already have a total of 4-5 TB of storage space including the backup. Besides a Blu-Ray RW can hold 20-40 gbs of space, much more than the DVD format can where you were stuck at 4.5 or 8 if it was DVD-R DL.

I have a lot of internal drives and one external that holds 1 terabyte (really only 931 gigabytes) so I have that covered... mostly. I need another that holds at least as much if not more to keep my bases covered.

Fortunately these days such things are much cheaper than they used to be. I remember when harddrives held 3 gigs and that was "a lot." :funny:

But definitely, yes. No matter how confident or sure you are, always back up important files. I lost a few television shows and movies. Nothing irreplaceable or particularly hard to recover, although that is a major pain in the ass to redownload all of that. At least most of my relied-upon programs I already kept back ups of in another drive.
Sooner or later I'll need to get a Terabyte external lol I went through that re-downloading once when my old Tower's power supply died and took alot of the stuff I had on it with

They are cheap. My newest one is not SSD but it is the same tiny form factor and only cost like $40 on sale at Best Buy last year.

Yeah, I've seen the prices drop lol It's just every time they do they disappear FAST! There's a couple colleges in this area not to mention all the Venders for Walmart

Bruh, I used to backup with disc. It's insanely cumbersome even if you were to max out the Blu-Rays potential of 200 GB which they don't do yet. You can pick up a 128 GB thumb drive for $25 on Amazon which is not only cheaper it's much safer in terms of not losing your data. Only downside is it's easy as f*** to lose the damn things.

Don't even waste your time with 1 TB homie, you can snag a WD 3 TB external drive that's meant for in-home use for $100 on Amazon Prime right now. I'll let you use my Prime account if you want so you get free 2-day delivery too.

I was actually considering doing a full on NAS backup running RAID-6 just because I'm that paranoid about losing my damn music again haha.

I picked up a 2TB HDD a few years back for $120. I went in to get a 1tb but a 2tb was right beside it for $20 more.

I've filled up half with digital comics of all sorts. It's now reference material for my writing. :D

I probably have a few hundred GBs of music as well. Me likey variety.

So my roommates son, his wife and his kid from his first marriage moved into the house for a bit. The kid is like 5 or 6 best I can tell. My God, does he never shut the f*** up. I'm always cordial and kids are cool and all but damn having to listen to him talk all the time is annoying as crap. And they just go along with it.

I seem to recall many games and things done to get little kids to get them to shut the hell up for a bit without screwing them up later in life. I understand it's not okay to walk out of my room and just duct tape his mouth shut, but I would like to enjoy a little peace and quiet when I get home from work.

I don't. There's a reason every pawn shop/used music shop has a billion of her CDs around here. :p

Any Celine Dion songs in your collection?

Not sure why you felt it necessary to quote me twice but yes, I have several remixes and mashups of hers. My personal fave is the music from Radiohead's Creep with her vocals from the power of love. That one always gives me a chuckle.

Honestly, though, besides the stuff of hers that's in my 90's collection most of it is just used as dancefloor clearers or just to make other DJs laugh and f*** with people.

I see. That's great to know.

I was gonna quote you and Kevan. I made a mistake.
