You’ll be able to play as Azure Striker Gunvolt protagonist Gunvolt, Ekoro the apprentice angel from Galgun, and Mighty No. 9 hero Beck.

Inti Creates reportedly announced a new Nintendo 3DS collaboration project called Mighty Gunvolt, seemingly revealed in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

The project is supposedly a collaboration title between Comcept’s Mighty No. 9, Inti Creates’ own Azure Striker Gunvolt, and… Galgun, which is a project Inti Creates were involved with.

While details are scant for the time being, the report indicates that this is a downloadable title for the 3DS, and that Azure Striker Gunvolt content will appear in an ’80s style graphic design. It’s unclear as to whether this is a remake or something else entirely.

As far as playable characters go, you’ll be able to play as Azure Striker Gunvolt protagonist Gunvolt, Ekoro the apprentice angel from Galgun, and Mighty No. 9 hero Beck.

Details on Mighty Gunvolt’s release date and price are currently unavailable. More details are expected to surface in the near future.

Update: Inti Creates have provided the following comments via their Azure Striker Gunvolt Twitter feed:

A "leak" has fans excited, confused, hopeful, skeptical. To all we say: just wait 'til you have all the details. Oh just you wait… #soon

@ZFighterAmuro : lol, chill, chill… "leaks" aren't best way to get all info. All will be "officially" clear soon :) :
— Gunvolt Official EN (@GunvoltGame) August 19, 2014

Inti Creates have also stated that further information on just what this is will surface within the next 24 hours. Following the publication of this report, Siliconera reached out to the developer for comment. We’ll update with further information as soon as we hear back.

Mighty Gunvolt Video Shows Some Of Its Retro-Style Action. August 19, 2014 . 11:05pm

Inafune explains that Mighty Gunvolt is a game with the taste of the nostalgic 8-bit-style action games from the ‘80s.

We recently got a first look at a new Nintendo 3DS collaboration project, Mighty Gunvolt, with characters from Mighty No. 9, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Galgun. Inti Creates shared a glimpse of the NES-style 2D side-scrolling game in action in their latest video.
[YT]MAClxYeHqMU[/YT]

The video starts out with Keiji Inafune giving a brief introduction about Azure Striker Gunvolt, as an homage to old-school Japanese 2D side-scrolling action games, and gives us a look at its latest trailer.

The video footage explains a bit about the story of the game, followed by a look at Gunvolt and his moves, along with a look at some of his friends. At the 1:52 mark, they show off some more of Gunvolt’s friends and the game’s main villains. Then, At 3:40, Inafune makes another appearance to talk about the recently announced Mighty Gunvolt.

Mighty Gunvolt is a bonus title that is available for free to those that purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt prior to November 19, 2014, in Japan.

Inafune explains that Mighty Gunvolt is a game with the taste of the nostalgic 8-bit-style action games from the ‘80s, and gives us a first look at it in action at the 4:26 mark, where we get to see the three heroes, all of whom all have their own unique characteristics.

Gunvolt looks like he’ll put his electrifying abilities to use, while Galgun’s Ekoro has a lock-on shot that can charm enemies to turn them into allies. We don’t get to see much from Mighty No. 9 protagonist Beck, but it looks like he’ll play similarly to the NES-era Mega Man.

Mighty Gunvolt is currently available for free in Japan for those who purchased Azure Striker Gunvolt until November 19, 2014. Inti Creates have yet to announce it for the west, but we’ll likely hear about it soon as North America’s launch date of August 29 approaches.

His game isn't even out yet and he's crossing over into others?

His game isn't even out yet, and there's been the Beck alt in Ninja Gaiden Z, talks about a movie, an animated series, and a MML style sequel.

According to what been said by commentors on siliconera the other games are out in japan, so they claim and wolf cypher is right though. Though Ninja Gaiden Z was a bad entry, bad controls and all and wasn't well received .

Mighty Gunvolt Will Be Available For Free To Gunvolt Buyers In North America, Too. August 20, 2014 . 11:01am

Inti Creates also have plans to release the game as a separate download.

Last night, Inti Creates announced that early purchasers of Azure Striker Gunvolt in Japan will get a little free bonus—an entirely separate game, titled Mighty Gunvolt, which is a throwback to the 8-bit Mega Man games and other titles like Kid Dracula.

This game is being made available in North America as well, the studio confirmed today.

Mighty Gunvolt will let you play as three characters—Gunvolt himself, Beck from Mighty No. 9, and Ekoro from Galgun. All three characters are from games that Inti Creates have worked on, although Gunvolt is the only I.P. that actually belongs to the studio.

Mighty Gunvolt will be available to anyone in North America that purchases Azure Striker Gunvolt between August 29th and November 28th, 2014. Once your purchase of the game is complete, you’ll see a message on your eShop receipt with a download code for Mighty Gunvolt. The game contains five stages.

Inti Creates also have plans to release Mighty Gunvolt as a separate download that you can purchase without buying Azure Striker Gunvolt sometime this Winter in Japan. A release date and price for the game haven’t been announced yet, though, and neither has a North American release.

Inti Creates And Inafune Talk Mighty Gunvolt DLC. August 25, 2014 . 11:00am

It sounds like Inti Creates and Inafune plan on using Mighty Gunvolt as a platform to promote Mighty No. 9.

[YT]T48pG0_NPTE[/YT]

As reported last week, for the first three months following release, Azure Striker Gunvolt comes with a free 8-bit game, titled Mighty Gunvolt, which features both GV and Mighty No. 9’s Beck as playable characters, alongside GalGun’s Ekoro. In a new developer diary video, Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizu and Comcept’s Keiji Inafune talk about how Mighty Gunvolt came about, and what kind of downloadable content is being prepared for the game.

“It was Mr. Aizu’s idea,” Inafune says, when the subject of the free Mighty Gunvolt giveaway is brought up. “Real generous of him, wasn’t it? I wouldn’t have given it for free, but Inti Creates? They’re different.”

He continues, “Both Mighty No. 9 and Gunvolt were developed by them at the same time. Mighty No. 9’s a big deal for many Inti staff members, so they were all keen on the idea. Both have that familiar feel of classic 8-bit games, so why not reinterpret them as actual 8-bit games?”

“It was just a neat idea at first, but Inti took it all the way. Props to Mr. Aizu for that.”

Aizu replies, “Well, talking to Mr. Inafune about it did get us excited, and if we were excited, I was sure the fans would love it.”

“I go a long way back with Mr. Aizu and his team,” Inafune says. “We started in 8-bit games and wanted to see an 8-bit Mighty [game]. Gunvolt gave us that opportunity. There was more stuff we wanted to put in, but the final product is a very solid game.”

The two developers then briefly discuss upcoming downloadable content for Mighty Gunvolt, which is currently being worked on by Inti Creates.

“Well, the DLC content is still under development, so there’s not much I can say yet,” Aizu says. That said, Aizu does specify that additional stages are being worked on. Inafune adds that he would like to see DLC stages that can only be cleared with Beck, the protagonist of Mighty No. 9, to which Aizu replies that he does think that would be fun.

“You’re getting a first taste of Beck,” Inafune says. “I think fans would really want that.”

Both developers also say it’s likely that Azure Striker Gunvolt will see a sequel at some point in the future, although they encourage fans to write in with their thoughts on the matter regardless.

Mighty No. 9 starts backers-only beta

Early access keys for Mighty No. 9 have been sent to the game's beta-level backers, Comcept announced on the game's Kickstarter page Sunday. Those that pledged at least $80 to get a taste of Keiji Inafune's latest creation ahead of the rest of its community should have received their keys in the past few days. Additionally, backers will also receive a free copy of Mighty Gunvolt, the retro-style crossover of Mighty No. 9 and Inti Creates' Azure Striker Gunvolt.

Mighty No. 9 was announced during PAX Prime last year. It went on to earn over $3.8 million on Kickstarter, the most of any project during a full year that saw 340 other successful Kickstarter games. The developer also recently issued a new video, found after the break, that shows the Mega Man creator play-testing a competitive multiplayer mode in the game, online race battle.

Mighty No. 9 will launch in spring 2015 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Mac, Linux, 3DS, Wii U and Vita.

Spring 2015 seems so soon. I remember when it felt so far away.

Inafune: Mighty No. 9 Is “A Mix Of All The Sort Of Games I’ve Developed”. September 30, 2014 . 5:29pm

“The type I’m aiming for is really a hybrid—a mix of all the sort of games I’ve developed up until now,” says Mighty No. 9 project lead Keiji Inafune.

If you haven’t played the Mighty No. 9 beta, it’s hard to get a handle on just what kind of platformer the game is. The similarities to Mega Man are apparent, obviously, but just which Mega Man game you should be thinking of isn’t quite as obvious. We recently asked project lead Keiji Inafune what kind of game he wants Mighty No. 9 to end up being, within the context of its Mega Man roots.

“The type I’m aiming for is really a hybrid—a mix of all the sort of games I’ve developed up until now… but you have to be able to do it in a way that the user naturally and organically evolves their gameplay style as they’re playing the game,” Inafune replied.

[Related: Inafune said to us that Mighty even takes certain cues from Onimusha.]

“What we’ve noticed that’s happened while playing Mighty No. 9 is that you can start off playing it like an oldschool Mega Man game, but as you do that, you start to get more and more skilled come to understand what the purpose of the dash-absorption is—and you start to tackle more enemies and kill them faster, aim for the highest percent, and just move through the stages more stylishly than you would before. When that happens, then naturally the speed at which you get through the stages increases because you’re constantly learning to utilize your dash attacks.”

He continued, “Since side-scrollers are built differently than the games of yesteryear, you can actually see where your enemies are coming from or will come from—so when you start moving quickly, you are inhibited by enemies, and now you have a good balance between the old-style Mega Man gameplay and organic pace. Of course, new enemies are introduced that, depending on what weapons you’ve absorbed, are harder to conquer.”

“Mighty No. 9 involved all of the efforts I’ve put into games up until now as a creator, and I think that, rather than resemble either X or traditional Mega Man games, it finds its place somewhere in between, where it’s able to organically evolve and not be set to one mold.”

Do You Want Japanese Or English Voices In Mighty No. 9?. October 7, 2014 . 9:31am

In an update to the game’s Kickstarter page, Comcept have posted an apology for the way they handled the announcement of voice-acting being added to Mighty No. 9 a few months ago.

In an update to the game’s Kickstarter page, Comcept have posted an apology for the way they handled the announcement of voice-acting being added to Mighty No. 9 a few months ago. The team says that it did a poor job explaining itself and that backers and readers were left with a number of questions that went unanswered. In order to make up for this, Mighty No. 9 is now getting even more content.

Back in July, Comcept launched a second crowdfunding campaign for Mighty No. 9, which asked for another $100,000 in funds. This, the studio said, would enable them to add voice-acting to the game. This initiative didn’t go over well with a lot of the audience following the game’s development, and raised a number of questions, such as whether a game like Mighty No. 9 really needed voice-acting and why Comcept were asking for more funding after having received $3.8 million in contributions already.

As a result of this, Comcept have now re-launched their second crowdfunder in the form of opening Mighty No. 9 up to “slacker backers”. What this effectively means is that if you didn’t contribute to the game during its Kickstarter campaign, you can still do so now if you wish, and receive a number of the same benefits as regular backers. The slacker backer contributions will go toward adding voice-work to the game, and this time, Comcept have provided a full breakdown of how these costs work out.

Cutting a long story short, Mighty No. 9 has now amassed just enough funding for voice-acting in one language, and Comcept are asking fans to decide whether they would prefer Japanese or English voice-acting. An official survey is being sent out to backers starting today, and the results will be announced October 14th.

Mighty No. 9 is in development for PC, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Ishaan Mod • 30 minutes ago Having played the beta, I would highly recommend that, if any of you are voting, you vote for English. There's dialogue during gameplay in this game, and it's annoying to have to look at the dialogue boxes while running around. If the voices are in a language you understand, this won't be a problem, and you wouldn't have to stop and read text in the middle of a stage.

Mighty No. 9 To Get English Voice-Acting, Maybe Potential DLC. October 14, 2014 . 8:29am

Comcept have hinted at some “potential bonus DLC” for Mighty No. 9, which they say isn’t in development yet, but will be detailed soon.
[YT]2uYSlhC9zVI[/YT]

Mighty No. 9 will have English-language voiceovers when the game is released, Comcept have announced. The studio asked fans to vote between English and Japanese voice tracks, and English ultimately won out.

In addition, another update to the game’s PC beta adds the third and final beta level to the existing two. This third stage is Mighty No. 3, meaning that No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 are now playable in the beta version.

Finally, Comcept have hinted at some “potential bonus DLC” for Mighty No. 9, which they say isn’t in development yet, but will be detailed soon. You can view a tease for this in the video embedded above.

Mighty No. 9 potential ‘Ray’ DLC announced
Published 13 hours ago. 41 comments.

Zero-like rival and stage if game gets another $190,000 in funding.
MN9-Potential-Ray-DLC.jpg

Mighty No. 9 will get its first downloadable content in the form of a new stage and rival boss character named Ray if Comcept is able to raise another $190,000 in funding via “slacker backers” by the end of 2014, the company announced.
If all the funding is gathered, everyone who backed Mighty No. 9 will get the bonus content free sometime during summer 2015.
Comcept stretches that “none of the developers have or would begin working in earnest on this DLC until their work is done on the Mighty No. 9 retail release.”
As far as the new character goes, Ray is essentially Mighty No. 9‘s version of Mega Man‘s Zero. He is “a lone wolf character with no siblings” and “a robot with a big hole in its chest where its essential core should be.” The hole signifies Ray is “slowly deteriorating over time.” He has the same absorption ability as Beck, but is vampire-like in that he needs to absorb other robots to survive. Given this, half of his face has crumbled away, in addition to his right horn and parts of his cloak.

Mighty No. 9 is approaching the end of development, Comcept said in a recent update to the game’s website.

At present, the game is in a “pre-final beta” state, and while certain things still need to be filled in, the current build contains everything from the main story stages to Online Race Battles, Challenge Mode, and other features.

What’s left is to finish creating the game’s ending (the current build uses placeholder images), perform adjustments, debugging, visual tweaks and so on. The images in this post are all from the current build of the game.
