Mighty No. 9 and Back in 1995 showcased at Tokyo Indie Fest

The Mega Man successor and a horror game throwback.
MN9-Tokyo-Indie-Fest-Footage.jpg

Indie games take center stage at the Tokyo Indie Fest in Akihabara this weekend. And thanks to Twitch’s live stream of the event, we have a direct feed look at some of them. Mainly, you’ll get a look at Back in 1995 and Mighty No. 9.
The former starts at 1:09:00 and is Throw the Warped Code Out’s horror game throwback to classics like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark—horrible graphics, d-pad controls, bad translations, and all. According to the studio, the plan was originally to release the game on PlayStation Mobile, but given that’s come to an end, they’re seeking someone to help them publish the game on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita via PlayStation Network.
The latter starts at 02:13:24 and is, of course, Keiji Inafune’s spiritual successor to Mega Man. Its release date was recently announced for mid-September, alongside a physical release on current-gen platforms.
Watch the video over at Twitch.

Mighty No. 9 PC Beta To Be Taken Down Tomorrow. May 19, 2015 . 11:01am

One last day to try the beta build on Steam.

The Mighty No. 9 PC beta will be pulled from Steam on Wednesday, May 20th, Comcept announced this morning. Here’s what the studio had to say on the subject of the beta:
Speaking of the porting process, we’ve finally gotten to the point where we can’t progress any further with debug and ROM testing while the Steam beta is still running. That’s why we’ll be discontinuing the Mighty No. 9 beta on Wednesday, May 20th. Now’s your last chance for you beta Beckers to play through No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 stages, so if you haven’t taken advantage of your reward now’s the time!

September?
Oh, I'm ready now!

Mighty No. 9 Impressions: A Mix Of Old And New. June 3, 2015 . 10:02am

The first thing that I noticed was that it’s not as tough as the NES Mega Man games, but you can’t breeze your way through it either.

The development of Mighty No. 9 has certainly been interesting to follow, but come this September, it’ll finally be done and released to the world. Given Keiji Inafune and Inti Create’s involvement, it’s impossible to talk about the project without mentioning Mega Man and the influence of the series on the game.

The first thing that I noticed during my recent demo hands-on was that it’s not as tough as the NES Mega Man games, but you can’t breeze your way through it either. Enemies require time and focus to take them out. You’ll be dodging attacks, learning patterns and getting your timings right to in order to succeed. The biggest surprise for me was the quick pace of the game. Traditionally, platformers like this want you to play it safe, to take your time and work out the best way to succeed—not the case here.

One of Beck’s important moves is a dash ability. This is not only used to dodge and pass through small gaps, but also to absorb enemy abilities. While these abilities are not as grand as the moves Beck absorbs from bosses, they still provide small upgrades until they’re used up. You’ll be a little bit faster, a little bit stronger, depending on what you’ve absorbed. Some enemies can only be taken out by absorbing them and certain enemies seem to have weaknesses to specific upgrades as well.

Visually, the game has a simple but pleasant presentation. I saw a decent variety of enemies within the level, each their own moves and patterns. Despite the speedier pace, once you’re playing, it does feel like an NES platformer but with some modern paint and polish. I liked the attention to detail—like how when Beck is low on health, he’ll appear visibly tired.

Coming away from the game, I felt like it was pretty much what was I expecting: a spiritual sequel to Mega Man. Everything feels similar, the look and designs, level layouts, that corridor before the boss. While I’ve only had a very small taste of the game, I am left wondering if maybe an opportunity to be something more has been missed.

Mighty No. 9 Collector’s Edition Announced. June 3, 2015 . 10:30am

Comcept and Deep Silver have announced a collector’s edition for Mighty No. 9.

Comcept and Deep Silver have announced a collector’s edition for Mighty No. 9. This is called the Mighty No. 9: Signature Edition, and includes the launch edition of the game, along with a 6.5-inch, individually-numbered statue of Beck.

The statue has 14 different articulation points and three interchangeable faceplates, and you’ll need to pony up $59.99 if you want to get your hands on the collector’s edition.

Meanwhile, all launch window versions of the game will come packed with an additional “Retro Hero” DLC that allows players to battle as a Minecraft-esque version of Beck, as well as a 1-hit-death difficulty mode.

Mighty No. 9 will be available on September 15th in North America and September 18th worldwide for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

So hey, zenith, I went ahead and edited your post a little bit. Not sure if you meant to or not, but I think you posted the exact same article twice, just thought I would make it look a little less cluttered without both of them.

Anyway, for those unfamiliar, the retail version of the game costs $39.99, so the LE will be $20 extra.

I don't have a problem but when I do that it's cause one of the two has if the other lacks & might likely won't put up. so anyway it's fine

Also, for PlayStation players, the game will be cross-buy on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita, including the retail PS4 version. That means if you buy one version, you’ll get the other two free.

Oops, my mistake. I was thinking retail was $40 and digital was $30. Okay, so CE will be $30 extra.

Ah okay, I see. Well then, just for future reference, it'd probably be best just to have the article with the most information in the post and cut out the other. It's very confusing and cluttered to have 3-4 news stories in one post, especially when they are very similar outside a few little details.

Some of the levels seem so enticing to play. Specially the traffic stage.

I was all set to get this game digitally but the retail package is too attractive. It'll only be $4 more for me and comes with worthwile extras over buying the DLC separately with the digital version. Plus this isnt a game I see myself playing forever so I can trade it in when done and still have the PS3/Vita copies to play if I need to in the future since it comes with a Cross Buy code
