The Mighty No. 9 Thread

I backed this before it was revealed to be an ugly, unoptimized mess. I got it for Steam, so I'm not having frame rate problems to the degree other platforms are, but man. This is just not fun. Where do I even begin?

The models are terrible. Nowhere near the clean and vibrant concept art they're based off of. The levels look worse than the alpha footage we were told they'd surpass, and their designs are weak knockoffs of their inspirations. There are so many stupid ways to die and awkward pauses in the action I wonder how much this was beta tested. I've yet to find one I like. The mechanics aren't much better. Think Mega Man X, if those games had no wallkicks and a ledge grab that feels like it should be automatic yet requires an input. Even the dash combos are a chore; if you dash into enemies your buster only does a bit more damage for a while, and if you don't they become bullet sponges. Add in some Internet memes plus subtitles that only reflect the altered English script and you get...whatever this game is supposed to be.

Is it terrible? No. I've played much worse. It could make for decent speedruns. I'd be lying if I said the frustration was worth it.

Yeah I've watched some streams. People are saying it's not terrible.. But it's not "good" and far from what they were promised.

Steam reviews are mixed with most leaning towards negative.

To me, it looks like a watered down mix of Mega Man and Splosion Man.

Maybe Capcom was right all along, and we were defending the wrong side?

Well, judging by the quality of this game and how long it took to make, I don't see how that's "taking it too far".

Capcom is still responsible for shifty business practices, mistreating their employees, and generally being petty as hell over the whole deal. Just because Inafune messed up doesn't absolve Capcom of all the stuff it's done in the past.

It ignores the mountain of problems with Capcom since they shifted to the idea that they don't see much value in making games that won't return GTA like sales.

the only thing I'm gonna say is that Inafune from now should be talking about sequeal til after what ever project he's been working is out and has done good first and for most. and he needs to be more humble. That really didn't do good for his rep besides the delays and how the game came out and made more of egotistical person. the verson business man talk make seem like he doesn't know much about business at call of all this .

so over all he came off as unprofessional with business practice here and not knowing when to keep his mouth shut til after the game had done well or not. that what I was talking that he doesn't seem like much of business man. in actuality real ones know better then to do that.

he came of a a novice and worse here. the man needs to be more humble and may let some else handle the business side. he's not experienced in this field of bu8sness no matter what said. v and on til he does learn that name falls flat.

that said I hope Re core does better.

What was being promised? I played a few levels and the only 'sin' I'm seeing is that it's lack of the 'Mega Man' branding.

I've read that it doesn't play much like a Mega Man game, so I think that's maybe what he's talking about. I dunno, though, I've yet to play it.

Ok so I bit the Bullet.. And bought it.. My thoughts may surprise you.

Reviewers are being too harsh on Mighty Number 9. I swear they all just want to seem hip and cool and it's neat to hate.. But honestly, after spending all yesterday with this game.. It's NOT bad. Is it as good as Mega Man X? No. Is it as good as the original Mega Man's? IMHO.. It's more fun than they are.

Yep. I said it. I love Mega Man.. But IMHO the X series blows the original MM series out of the water.. And while MN9 does some Cheesy things with VO and while some of the fire effects do look like cheese poofs.. It's still.. Fun.

I think people go too into the delays.. And the issues this game had in development.. Which you know what? That's why you don't back **** on Kickstarter.. Save your money until you play the finale product..or watch game play online... You never, ever have to put money forward on Anything game related.

Right now I'd say I'd give it a solid 7.. "BUT BEN IGN SAYS THIS GAME IS AS BAD AS THE ANTI-CHRIST..!" Yeah? Forget IGN.. They're an over rated site anyway.. Watch game play videos or streams.. Or if you have a slight curiosity.. Download it and play it yourself.

If games are all about having fun.. Then this game does that for me and that says something. Maybe it's because I expected total hate and let down.. Maybe it's because I myself got into the delays and just couldn't believe the issues this had.. Maybe it's because it's a tad easier than the MM games.. I don't know.. People will have all sorts of opinions on this game.. Mine is no where near as bad as most.. And I suspect many will disagree with me and that's cool.. We can agree to disagree.. But Im still playing today and having a lot of fun.

If anything wait for a sale.. Then check it out.

Every time I read stuff like this, I can't help but roll my eyes. Do you seriously think this is true? Wouldn't be cool and hip to love the game when everyone else is hating it?

I disagree with you. I played it at my friends house. Granted, I didn't beat the game, but I played it for about 30min, and it feels as stale as MM7 or 8. It's just dull, lifeless, and way too easy. Sure, the mechanics are sound, and it controls just fine, but it's just a bore. And again, it's not even close to being as fun as the original MM games, unless you want to compare them to MM7&8....which happen to be pretty boring MM games, IMO.

I just don't think some people even bothered to play the game. Colin from Kinda Funny had the best critical review.. IMHO. He said the game just "exists" it's not good to him, or bad..it's just "there."

Shovel Knight IMHO is a better game, but this to me still isn't bad.. It scratches a Mega Man X itch I've had for a while.

I dont really care for the original MM games. I was more of a fan of MMX.

I mean it's fine to disagree. I'm not saying the game is amazing.. But it's not flat out bad either. I'd say solid 7.. Middle ground. It's nothing ground breaking, no. It's not the worst thing I've ever played either.

It's fine to disagree on it. People brag up the newest Tomb Raider... And seriously all that game is to me is pretty. Everything else about it is just dumb. Gaming is full of different opinions. I'm not saying people are dumb to say it's bad.. But I do question if some of the YouTubers even played it.

Kickstarter is pulling in less video game money in 201

July 4, 2016 40 Comments

If you’re still hoping for Kickstarter as the new future for video game funding, you may well be disappointed to know that it seems to be undergoing a downturn.

A study by U.K.-based consultancy firm ICO Partners has determined that people have pledged significantly less to Kickstarters in the first half of 2016 than they did during the first and second half of 2015, with $8.2 million pledged in 2016 compared to about $20 million pledged in each half of 2015. And this doesn’t mean that overall success rates have changed; roughly the same number of projects are hitting a successful funding mark in both periods.

A number of factors appear to have caused the decline, including the lack of an obvious big-ticket project in the first half of 2016, crowdfunding moving to other platforms, and a general public skepticism. The lukewarm reception of Mighty No. 9 (the most expensive Kickstarter project with a full release to date) has also been indicated as a potential exhaustion with “spiritual successors.” It’s possible that both players and developers are realizing that Kickstarter success is difficult on its own and doesn’t translate to future success.

But all of that is speculation; what’s an undeniable fact is that people are less wiling to kickstart a game this year.

Thanks Inafune for ruining enthusiasm for Kickstarter games. :(

I love MM8, in my top 5 MM games.

This game, however, is bad and the developers should feel bad.

Epn.tv has a fallow up on what massive op.co put up about kickstarter and the damage from what mightyNo.9 did to it rep wise. details both in video and written article below.

EP Daily Rundown for July 7, 2016

Evolve is going free to play. We've got all the details on that today in the Rundown, along with updates on Kickstarter gaming, the Xbox One Play Anywhere initiative, some disappointing news about the next season of Game of Thrones, a look at the latest DLC for Grand Theft Auto Online, and finally, a look at how Marvel Comics and Star Trek are bringing more diversity to entertainment.

Here’s something that will probably anger a lot of gamers: the monstrous online shooter Evolve is going free-to-play. Starting today, developer Turtle Rock Studios has re-launched the game on the PC, calling it Evolve: Stage 2 and making it completely free to download. New players will have access to some, but not all, of the hunters and monsters, and they’ll be able to unlock more by using a new in-game currency called Silver Keys, which can be earned by playing the game and eventually bought with real-life money. For those of you who’ve already bought the original game, you’ll automatically be switched to the new Stage 2 version with all of your unlocked content carrying over. You’ll also be given the new Founder Status, which grants you exclusive in-game bonuses and 3,000 of those new Silver Keys. Evolve: Stage 2 is still in beta, so not all of the changes are up and running yet. Free-to-play is coming to the console versions as well, but not right away; the developers say they’ll do it sometime after the full version of Stage 2 is finished on the PC. More and more big games have been switching over to a similar free-to-play business model, despite the fears of many gamers, who worry that it will make everything pay to win. Hopefully Evolve is able to do it the right way and not alienate its fans. What do you think? Is free-to-play a good idea, or should Evolve have stayed the way it was? Let us know in the comments below.

Fewer and fewer gamers are opening up their wallets to Kickstarter. The crowd-funding website received $8.2 million for all of its video game projects in the first half of 2016. That might sound like a lot of money, but it’s down significantly from the more than $20 million that was pledged to games in the first half of 2015.

This indicates that gamers are becoming more reluctant to give their money to crowd-funded projects. There are probably many different factors that have contributed to the drop in numbers, but a big one has to be the fact that several high-profile Kickstarter games have turned out to be disappointments once they were finally released. Mighty No 9 received a lot of criticism for failing to live up to expectations, despite the fact that I enjoyed it, and there are several other examples. It’s also a risky proposition to spend your money on a game that won’t be released for another few years.

It’s not all bad news for Kickstarter though. Despite the drop in total revenue, roughly the same number of video games have been successfully funded, which means players are still willing to donate to smaller projects. Table top gaming has also seen an increase on the site, so it looks like crowdfunding is here to stay… for now.

The Xbox One is going to keep getting exclusive games after all. Earlier this week, Microsoft revealed that, going forward, all of their first-party Xbox One games would support their new Play Anywhere initiative, which basically meant that there would be no more exclusives, with every one their games being released simultaneously on the Xbox One and PC. Now they’ve backtracked. The same post on the official Windows blog has since been updated to clarify that they were only talking about games that were shown on stage at E3 last month.

That includes titles like Halo Wars 2 and Gears of War 4, but not unannounced games like Halo 6. Even though Play Anywhere won’t apply to every Microsoft game, it’s still pretty cool. Players who buy a game on the Xbox One or PC will get it for free on both platforms, with save files and achievement automatically synced. ReCore will be the first Play Anywhere title. That crosses the finish line on September 13.

Tragedy has struck the Seven Kingdoms: the next season of Game of Thrones might be delayed. The show’s producers have revealed that filming of the upcoming seventh season is going to start a little later than normal, which means the premiere might have to be pushed back as well. That’s according to showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Speaking on the UFC Unfiltered podcast of all places, they say that, because winter is finally here in the series, they need to wait for darker, more gloomy weather before they can begin filming again. Previous season have traditionally been shot in the summer, giving them plenty of time to have the episodes ready for the following spring, but now that shooting is starting later than normal, everything else might get pushed back as well. We’ll let you know when more details come in. A delay would be a very tragic turn of events for anxious fans given the shocking events of the recent Season Six finale. Things are starting to heat up as the story approaches its inevitable conclusion. The show is expected to wrap up with Season Eight, which will likely premiere in 2018.

Rockstar Games is pulling a new stunt to keep players interested in Grand Theft Auto Online. They’ve unveiled the new Cunning Stunts DLC, set to hit consoles and the PC next Tuesday. It gives players death-defying race tracks that tower above Los Santos, complete with car-crushing obstacles, daredevil-style loops, and insane jumps. Like other updates, there’s also loads of new vehicles, including new super cars, sports cars, and motorbikes. Players have already been making similar death-defying race tracks of their own using the game’s built-in creation tools and existing assets, so it’s nice that Rockstar has added official versions that look a lot better. Expect more DLC for GTA Online in the coming months.
Some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world are taking steps to embrace diversity. First up, Marvel Comics has unveiled a new version of Iron Man who isn’t a man at all. The conclusion of the current Civil War II comics will see Tony Stark retire from his heroic role and hand over his iron suit to a new character, Riri Williams, an African-American woman. Her story is being crafted by the legendary Brian Michael Bendis, who’s no stranger to awesome female characters, having co-created Marvel’s Jessica Jones. This is part of an on-going push on the part of Marvel to introduce more diversity to its comics, and they’re also bringing more diversity to the big screen with upcoming movies like Black Panther and Captain Marvel.
Speaking of the big screen, over in the final frontier, Star Trek Beyond actor John Cho has revealed to Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper that his version of Enterprise helmsman Mr. Sulu is gay. He says that this was a decision made by the film’s screenwriter and co-star Simon Pegg, and they both wanted to do it as a nod to original Sulu actor George Takei, who’s openly gay himself. It’s unclear if the original version of the character was gay or straight. He did show interest in a female colleague in one of the films, but that was in a deleted scene, so it doesn’t really count.

Despite Star Trek’s long history of promoting diversity, there actually haven’t been any gay leads in the franchise, so this is probably going to make the cavemen a little angry. Here at EP, we think diversity is a good thing. If you disagree and want to call us Social Justice Warriors, feel free to vent in the comments below.

Well, here's hoping that Bloodstained is highly successful and this scenario takes a turn for the better.

I was actually looking forward to Bloodstained and then I saw the demo boss and the ridiculousness was just wow. :funny:
