The MLB Thread

I think the Dodgers are clear favorites and think he would love to pitch with Ohtani and Yamamoto on a WS championship team. For MLB in general, it's not that great because you'd have a starting rotation that could (potentially) rival the great Braves starters of Smoltz, Avery, Glavine, and Maddox.....now, I"m not saying they would be THAT good, but it would make the Dodgers prohibitive favorites when you add Glasnow to that rotation. In addition, they'd have May, Gonsolin, Kershaw, and Buehler looking for the 5 spots. Flaherty is gone, but that's a wealth of quality pitching that no one else has. If you have Gonsolin and May in your bullpen, that's nuts.

I think Clayton might retire, but if he feels right, who knows? I think Roki goes to the Dodgers for about 30M over 10-15 years, but there's some weird MLB rules that will limit his contract on the front end.

I never thought of the 2020 series as an asterisk. Every team had the same chance to win it and the Dodgers came out on top. While the rules changed, they changed for everyone.

If we want to talk about asterisk series wins, it begins and ends with the Houston Astros. That crown should have been Yanked (excuse the pun) from them. Period.

Bush lost his Heisman because his parents got an apartment or something like that and the Astros get caught cheating at the GAME and nothing happens??? Please.....
I know it wasn't, but fans in the media did say stuff like that. It's easy to win the World Series. It doesn't matter if it's 60 games or 162 games. That trophy is hard for anyone to win. The 2017 Astros should have gotten banned for life with the expectation of Betran. They made him the fall guy because it was his last year, but the team should have gotten stripped of that championship and banned like the 1919 black sox.

That's crazy. Word is that the Dodgers want to go to a 6 man rotation; partially because it's preferred by the Japanese pitchers. Let's be clear here, if the Dodgers can sign someone like Snell or Fried AND Sasaki, that gives them a rotation of Glasnow, Ohtani, Yamamoto, Sasaki, and Fried/Snell. That's absurd. The 6th spot would, in all likelihood, go to Gonsolin or May if they don't resign Buehler (who looked good towards the end of the year and probably got himself some off season free agency money because of it). You've also got a guy like Bobby Miller, who has great stuff and could be a frontline starter, but had a LOT of trouble last year. The Dodgers have had a lot of injuries with their starters and going to a 6 man rotation might help that.

Deferring Ohtai's salary for 10 years opened up a lot of space and the Dodgers appear to be taking advantage of it. The Dodgers tendered an offer to Teoscar Hernandez who was a big part of their offense last year, but he turned it down. For the Dodgers, they did it because if he walks, they get a draft pick. He's probably looking at $25M a year for 3-5 years. If I'm the Dodgers, I go 3 years max, but there are stupid teams out there who will never win anything and will probably go 5 or 6. It's why the Angels never win.

So, I've thought about this for quite some time and I think some teams can skirt the salary cap by basically offering endorsements. I read that Ohtani is getting $60M a year in endorsements and he gets those kind of dollars because he's with a high profile team. Nothing is written in stone, but I'm gonna be surprised if Sasaki doesn't go to the Dodgers. Because he's an international player under 25 with less than 6 years experience, he's not going to get a lot of money by MLB standards. He's clearly coming to the big leagues for reasons other than a big contract. I think he wants to prove himself and figures he'll get the most money from endorsements if he joins the Dodgers. I'm seeing an overlay of Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki throwing at the same time and hearing "Strike Three!" Sounds like a great commercial campaign to me and coining that phrase would underpin a very successful advertising campaign, .....as well as one that pays.....

Those three pitchers, if they are together next year, are going to put butts in the seats and eyes on the television screens.

And only the 2nd to win it in the AL and NL (The GREAT Frank Robinson being the other). That vote was as much of a no brainer as I've ever seen.
He'll probably win next year, too, barring some sort of injury.

He has a decent chance. If he does, he'll be the only player to win 2 in each league. If not next year, he'll probably do it in the next 2 or 3. Here's the thing about Ohtani....obviously, he's just flat out dangerous at the plate. If it's late in the game and you need someone to go deep, he's my guy, BUT, if I need someone to drive in a run from second, I want Freddie Freeman at the plate. He almost never has a bad at bat. You'll see Ohtani swing at a fair amount of bad pitches and strikeout, but he'll also drive one out off his front foot. Freddie, on the other hand, just works you pitch after pitch after pitch and when he gets one he can handle, he squares up.

I must be getting old. :funny:

When I was a kid, we calculated batting averages and earned run averages. We counted RBIs, home runs, wins, and strikeouts.

:grr:

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yanks didn't have the bullpen depth the Dodgers did and it cost them. I expect the Dodgers to be noticeably better next year in the pitching department. Their starters this year were really banged up and the bullpen saved them.
