The N word in Literature

This is where I draw the line.

Stephen King is great, but he's a racist in my eyes.

Anyone who writes this words harbor racists, stereotypical, ethnocentric thoughts.

No one should be allowed to write this word--and passed off as literature.

You're an idiot then. Is Quentin Tarantino a racist for using the word, despite being good friends with Sam Jackson? Was Mark Twain a racist? Was Ian Flemming a racist? You seem to be confusing the characters views on race with the authors.

No. It's only racist if you believe it is.

omg d00ds stephen king is such a racist
bad guy in cell? black man
badguy in dark tower? man in BLACK!!!

[/sarcasm]

Haha wait, so in the opening post of this thread you said "King is great," but now he vomits his words? How many times during this thread are you going to change your mind on various subjects? lol

I'm not changing my mind. I'm kind of like the Bible. I say alot of contradictory things, but it all harmonizes in the end.

I have mad respect for King, and the way he crafts his story. Reads more like a film clip than written words. But when he writes internal monologue and interior thoughts, he just goes on and goes on. For what purpose? He himself said he writes to stop the quacking voices in the head. You can see the deterioration as a writer, when you read his newer works such as Lisey's Story and Duma Key. From a Buick 8 to The Colorado Kid, and his recent work Cell.

Just horrible. The man forgot how to tell a story; he just rambles. He's not about scaring his readers, anymore, through subtle social commentary or emotive theme--he's writing for the literary critics.

He's a sell-out.

He's also a cop-out, because since he doesn't plan or outline his stories, his ending always ends up into some supernatural, wish-washy, heebie-jeebies, jim-jammy b.s.

Damn I haven't gotten past the first book of the Dark Towers series due to school readings, figure by the time I get to the last couple of books he'll have rewritten them!

I read the Black House and that other book related to it, such good reads.

Are you ****ing kidding me? I would rather gouge my eyes out.

Got to admit the things he has come out with in the last 10 years I didn't really bother with, but thats me judging a book by its cover and title, which is ******ed, but I have no time to read anything anyways.

Well go ahead, and post it on youtube so I have something new to fap too.
But seriously, I guess I haven't read enough literature to really know*, but I always liked his characters and the way he told a story.

*(I'm primary school I quickly went from goosebump to fear street, then right before high school I started King, basically kept on that track, had a pretty narrow focus, got to college and university and I've got no ****ing time whatsoever for recreational reading, when I do I read me some Chomsky cuz life's too short for fiction)

Well ok, that's fine. You don't like his later works. I don't like King's books in general, but I'm not calling the guy a racist. I'm still trying to figure how you came up that one and with your other remark about anyone who portrays or writes about a racist is in effect a racist as well because by doing that they somehow condone racism. Can you explain that please?

He's not a sell-out by any measure. His written for so long, that the well has run dry on his best ideas. That being said, he keeps writing for two reasons. First, it's not just a job to him but his favorite activity. He would be stupid not to keep making money at something he does so automatically. Second, his hardcore fanbase, like myself, will buy anything he's ever put out. He doesn't stop writing because he knows SK junkies are insatiable. Even second-class King writing far surpasses most writers in the horror/sci-fi/fantasy genre. One the rare occasions when the seed doesn't bloom to a great story, you can always count on King to flesh out compelling characters.

Er...I never saw Jesse Jackson get fired from anything for saying "K***", as Imus did just for saying "Nappy Haired".

Yea, but Jess got heat beyond heat for that, still to this day. That nutty ass Farakhan as well. Jess's slip was in a speech if I remember, I may be wrong, Imus -had a national format, is older than dirt and should have known better, and has a history of talkin down to certain folks.

My thing is that's one of the few instances where a black slur wasn't the most popular in the world-got attention. When it comes to N folks want it used just to go away, and to me it's the only slur that has that distinction.

like the twelve-year old kids having a gang-bang in It.

THIS. D: I just finished reading and journaling on It for my independent novel study class, and that gave me some interesting material for my teacher to read. Fortunately, she has a sense of humor.

The real story is actually funnier.
