Sarge 2.0 said:You're confusing the Scots-Irish with Irish Americans. Both were Irish immigrants to this country, but the Scots-Irish were the non-Catholics who became more prominent in the south. I was referring to Irish Americans, who immigrated primarily to the east coast. And you can't possibly believe that the racist philosophy which saw blacks as subhuman would not have existed if not for a single word.
They were discriminated against and weren't allowed to work in certain places:

Did I say that racism against blacks wouldn't happen without the n-word? No. But it help in the dehumanization of my people. And that helped justify the violence for many.
"Primarily" doesn't mean not a all. So that means some of them were down south. I'm from Memphis! Get over it. Your Irish ancestors participated in some of that "ni--er" abuse. It's history. Boston itself is one most racist cities in this nation...full of Irish people.
At the end of the day people will always find reasons to discriminate....yes even whites against whites. But please don't try to hitch the Irish wagon to that of those blacks you just saw in those photos....you are really reaching to try and make a point that has no comparison. You get an Irishman , an Italian, and a Polish man in the room together, they will find a way to make differences....yes. But just add a black man to the room?? Now all of a sudden "they" are all "white" people.
But you can't relate to that. And that's okay. But please don't be a person who can't wear black shoes and try to then rationalize the N-word. There are some things in life that I myself have learned that I can't have an opinion on. That just comes with age and learning.
