Ban on the N-word

You're confusing the Scots-Irish with Irish Americans. Both were Irish immigrants to this country, but the Scots-Irish were the non-Catholics who became more prominent in the south. I was referring to Irish Americans, who immigrated primarily to the east coast. And you can't possibly believe that the racist philosophy which saw blacks as subhuman would not have existed if not for a single word.

They were discriminated against and weren't allowed to work in certain places:

Did I say that racism against blacks wouldn't happen without the n-word? No. But it help in the dehumanization of my people. And that helped justify the violence for many.
"Primarily" doesn't mean not a all. So that means some of them were down south. I'm from Memphis! Get over it. Your Irish ancestors participated in some of that "ni--er" abuse. It's history. Boston itself is one most racist cities in this nation...full of Irish people.

At the end of the day people will always find reasons to discriminate....yes even whites against whites. But please don't try to hitch the Irish wagon to that of those blacks you just saw in those photos....you are really reaching to try and make a point that has no comparison. You get an Irishman , an Italian, and a Polish man in the room together, they will find a way to make differences....yes. But just add a black man to the room?? Now all of a sudden "they" are all "white" people.

But you can't relate to that. And that's okay. But please don't be a person who can't wear black shoes and try to then rationalize the N-word. There are some things in life that I myself have learned that I can't have an opinion on. That just comes with age and learning.

Horrible analogy.

It's a funny picture, though.

The analogy was very strong. You got the point. You just didn't like it. :woot:

yeah, it actually was a good analogy
but it just doesn't justify putting panties on your head

Uhm, so you're saying that a situation where you would put an Asian man, a Hispanic man, and an African-American man in a room together, then adding a white person, would be different? All three are people of a different race, then you add a white guy to the mix and they suddenly have common ground in being people of color. I don't know anything about Boston, so I wouldn't know if it's a racist city or not, but I'm not defending the Irish Americans by any strectch of the imagination. The Irish Americans were the ones who advocated heavily for slavery upon their arrival because they needed the Protestant majority (who did not consider Irish Catholics to be white people at the time) to accept them and help better their condition. The simple act of trying to keep slavery around in order to better their own condition is something that I can't defend.

Not really. You're equating a silly action that can be forgotten or joked about by a single person or a small group of people to the use of a word that carries a lot of impact in regards to race relations between two large groups of people in the United States. The power of a word, the use of a word, and the implications of a word are completely different from a guy doing something silly like putting panties on his head. A horrible analogy. And of course I don't like your points, I wouldn't disagree with you unless I didn't like them.

Ugh, another "shock value" poster. This is getting old.

What would the internet be without them? :o

No.

One of two things will happen. Either the government will be able to lock you up for saying a word which is crossing the line or it will be a toothless law. So why bother, either way?

Yep. Works in reverse too. Seen it happen many times. It's not right. But it happens. Considering the white man's history with the red man, yellow man and the black man, I'd say they could find common ground against him.

And that's the only reason they advocated slavery?? :whatever: Okay....I'm through.

You're at least right about that.

Then all racial slurs need to be banned.

Well, aside from the N-word and b***h, what else is repeated frequently in the entertainment industry?

Nothing, really.

Does Jesse Jackson not realize how many black comedians and rappers would be out of work if they couldn't use the N word?

it such a disgrace......when black comedians can't come up with fresh material, they fall back on black jokes.....but white people aren't allowed to say any however.....God forbid.....:whatever:

As a white person, why would you want to?

it's not a matter of wanting to.....black people are allowed to fall back on it, why can't white people? coming from one group, it's true, coming from another, it's offensive

Rap didn't start like that! These guys are still some of the baddest on the planet and none of them use the word Ni--er. NWA came in and ruined the whole landscape.

So you can't say rappers would be out of jobs. Only the dumb ones would.
:whatever:

I don't listen to rap all that much, but I think that I recall LL Cool J using the n-word in one of his songs. I'm probably wrong, but I just thought that I'd put that out there in case I'm not.
