JESSICA ALBA brought down the house at Saturday night's "2006 MTV Movie Awards," playing both host and star of the main event, and ET was in the midst of all of the MTV action!
Before the show, Alba told our KEVIN FRAZIER she had a case of the jitters, "I'm scared -- first of all it's a lot of work -- it's a lot more work than anybody anticipates!" She not only managed to overcome her nerves, but also took home her own statuette for Sexiest Performance for 'Sin City.'
This year's categories marked a first by making no distinction between male and female nominees. Breaking the gender barrier and awards show tradition, both actors and actresses took part in a friendly competition for the same Golden Popcorn statuettes.
Last summer's buddy comedy, 'Wedding Crashers,' took home three awards, including Best Movie. OWEN WILSON, had high hopes for his new film, 'You, Me and Dupree,' which comes out next month. Wilson said that he and co-star KATE HUDSON, "have a kissing scene that I can only hope will get some recognition at next year's awards, so I'll keep my fingers crossed."
Before STEVE CARELL picked up his Golden Popcorn for Best Comedic Performance for 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin,' he said he planned to put his award, "right up on a mantle under a big spotlight and I will play music behind [it] at all times and make people worship to [it] ... Worship at the altar of me!"
Another funny man, WILL FERRELL, arrived at the awards in costume as his racecar driver character from his new pic, 'Talladega Nights,' to present the MTV Generation Award to JIM CARREY. In character, Ferrell said of Jessica Alba, "She's combustible."
"It's always a blast," said Jim Carrey, who came with an entourage of 60 angels wearing sunglasses to pick up his statuette. "I like coming down to MTV, hanging out with a lot of young people going nuts -- you know it's great, great energy."
Presenter KATE BECKINSALE, who was nominated in the Best Hero category for 'Underworld,' joked before the show, "If I wasn't nominated in the same category as 'Harry Potter,' and I didn't have a 7-year-old, it might be more exciting, but I know nobody's rooting for me in my house."
In the end, CHRISTIAN BALE took home that award, for 'Batman Begins.'
Mom and dad to new baby SHILOH, ANGELINA JOLIE and BRAD PITT, didn't make the commute from Namibia to pick up their shared trophy -- for Best Fight Scene, for 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith.'
Best Kiss went to JAKE GYLLENHAAL and HEATH LEDGER for 'Brokeback Mountain' and SPIKE LEE was on hand to take home an honorary statuette -- the Silver Bucket of Excellence Award.
Musical performers included GNARLS BARKLEY, AFI and CHRISTINA AGUILERA, who debuted her new single, "Ain't No Other Man." She said that her latest album will be, "a throwback album to the 20s, 30s and 40's but with a modern day twist."
AMANDA BYNES summed up the show's wacky vibe by saying, "It is wackadoo -- this is the most intense thing I have ever been at!"
Other presenters included ZACH BRAFF, SANDRA BULLOCK, KEANU REEVES, COLIN FARRELL, KEVIN SPACEY, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, JAMIE FOXX, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and MATT DILLON.
The show will air Thursday, June 8th at 9 p.m. on MTV. Stay tuned to ET for your backstage pass to the wildest movie awards show of the year!
