The Natural Disasters Around the World Thread

im kinda curious at how Texas generated 10B for a "rainy day" fund. even if they allocate 10% to the disaster right now, that would help immensely

From the Lottery money that was supposed to go 100% to Education, then somewhere it ended up getting split with Education and Veterans and whatever else they needed....sooooo......

I was already out of the country, so I'm missing this but I am still terrified. With the current track, I'm not sure I will have a home to go back to. But at least my family and I will physically be safe. My neighbors are sticking it out even though I warned them days ago to leave, as did their son from North Carolina. It really made little sense since they are retired and were going to go up to North Carolina to visit at the end of next week anyways.

So yeah, I'm scared. Very scared.

My roommate said it's best if we go to our buddies house a few blocks from us as his house is cinder block and he made his garage strong as hell. As much as I'd like to ride it out here in my apartment this place was built kind of wonky. It is elevated so flooding wouldn't be a problem but not going to risk the place collapsing.

If it doesn't, then everything should be all god in the hood anyway. Just trying to figure out if I want to load up all my DJ gear or risk leaving it here.

At least my cousins decided to get out of Ft Myers, to ride it out on the other side of the state. My aunt, uncle, grandmother are staying, though.

I hope everyone is okay and their homes too. It is so sad how a hurricane can destroy someone's home in the matter of a few minutes :(

I wish people would stop stocking up on bottled water before a storm. The tap water is just fine. Buy some water cooler jugs and fill them up. The environment and your wallet will thank you.

I never drink tap water.

Have you even been given evacuation orders, Deej?

Nope, my apart is in the very last evacuation zone, but my roommate said this place was built kind if wonky so if we get the worst case scenario winds here we'd rather be at my buddies house that's not in an evacuation zone if this place decides to fall over.

Already got all my gear over to his place. Now about to make a run with my supplies and clothes and stuff.

There's nobody on the roads out here, it's eerily calm right now. It's always much weirder knowing it's coming your way very soon. South FL is already getting hammered and it's just the first band hitting.

Don't forget your water buckets in case you get stuck there a while. Keep us updated so we know you're okay.

Geez, Deej. I just looked you up on the map and according to CNN you should be leaving. You really gonna ride it out? I'd be bailing if I was you. :(

Naw, no reason to leave. The beachfront stuff is what's going to get the worst of it. Last thing anyone should do is get on the roads at this point.

Last couple of days, reporters been talking about the possibility of some of the 30+ construction cranes in Miami falling down....well one has just did it. I'm watching this on MSNBC...don't have a link to it.

On CNN they saying one of those high rise cranes has cracked, Hope it doesn't fall over

If it is UP in the air and not taken down, it will fall.....hell they have fallen in New York without hurricane force winds....just the normal winds coming through the buildings.

That is not even a possibility.....they will fall in hurricane force winds.

Hope there's no people left for them to fall on. :(

Well, Jim Cantore has armored up. About to get bad. Really hoping my family in Ft Myers does okay.

Parrots seeking refuge on the 22nd floor

how about opening the window for them??

That high up the window may not be openable.

This thing ain't jack now, predicting maybe as weak as a cat1 when it gets to Tampa Bay. I'm gonna take a hurricane nap now.
