The New 52

Fitch's art is either a hit or a miss for me, but what it really comes down to is if he manages to allow the book to come out on time. His lateness with Forever Evil really killed the momentum with that event.

My experience with Finch is from his work on Batman: Dark Knight, where I had to endure several issues of Batman chasing a scantily clad woman dressed up as rabbit. That's the cap on the narrative complexity. I hope that with his wife aboard, she will shoot down some of the stupid ideas and DC will not force the writers to have devote even more time to the WW/Supes romance.

On a disconnected note, I am reading Trinity War and am enjoying what I am reading.

I just hope finch doesn't draw everyone like they are sucking on sour warhead.

What Freaks me out is JRJR doing Supes lol

Just wanted to share a thought about DC. I've been a Marvel guys since I started reading comics about 12 years. Aside from Batman and the big crossovers, the DC books/characters didn't really call out to me. But with the New 52 I figured that was a good point to give a couple other titles a try. I'm surprised almost 3 years running now how many titles I've become fond of. My current pull list:

Batman
Justice League
Wonder Woman
Supergirl
Earth 2
Superman/Wonder Woman
Batman Eternal
Grayson- TBD

Granted it's not a huge list, but considering comic prices, my larger Marvel pull list, and my tendency to sticking to what I know I like and not really branching it out title-wise, it surprises me how much my tastes have crossed the fan war battle line.

I subscribe to Batman, pick up up Eternal and Batman 66 on Comixology, and pick up the following in TP form:

-Justice League
-Justice League Dark
-Earth 2

AQUAMAN!! He has had consistently one of the best titles of both companies.

Aquaman is the deal! His new 52 relaunch made me a fan of the character.

That would be an excellent book!

After reading some additional details, I am really excited about Arkham Manor.

One has to change the roster of a super-group; otherwise, it goes stale.

Might as well just rename it Batmans Angels or something if that is the real line up.

New creative team on Batgirl!

otltSFz.jpg

Starting in October, Barbara Gordon gets a brand new look, and team of writers and artist with “Batgirl #35.” Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher, no strangers to the DC Universe from their work on “Batman Inc.” and “Wednesday Comics” respectively, will write the book, which finds a fire burning everything Batgirl owns, forcing her to reevaluate her life in a big way.

Additionally, the writing team is joined by newcomer, artist Babs Tarr, who along with sometimes artist Stewart, has revamped her namesake’s costume to be way more practical than the skin-hugging body-armor comic fans might be used to.

Wow! I love the new costume design! I wonder what's next for Simone... Maybe that rumoured BoP relaunch? :word:

Just gonna copy my post from the discussion of her new look in the Batsuit thread...

Frankly I think the new look is a massive improvement. I applaud them for designing a Batgirl that will appeal to girls.

When it comes to heroes like Batman, Green Arrow, and so on (i.e. people who aren't wearing alien spandex or magic armor) I'm a big fan of updating costumes with details that make them look more like something a person could actually wear--and less like bodystockings.

Yes, as everyone knows I am a vehement supporter of classic costumes and am loathe to change them--but that doesn't mean we can't add a detail here or there. For example, Damian's costume costume had laced boots and a tunic that looked like a sturdy bullet proof vest--both good examples of updating a classic costume.

The big difference between this and, say, the Jim Lee designs is that this makes sense. What are all the lines on the Jime Lee batcostume for? Nothing. What are all the lines on the previous Batgirl costume? Nothing. They're just visual static. They want you to think those lines = armor... but that's not how armor works. It's a bizarre conceit where we're supposed to say "Okay, it still looks like magic spandex, but you added some inexplicable nonsense-lines, so I'll believe it's armor."

I hate that. I think that's sloppy, frustrating character design.

This new costume is a greater departure than I would normally call for, but it's hard to argue with the results. She may not look as "ready for war" as the previous design, but at least the changes here follow a function, as opposed to just being random lines. Most importantly, though, the design is indicative of a new approach that the character probably should have taken from day one of the New 52. DC was carefully trying to trick people into think it wasn't as big a reboot as it really was, though, so instead we got a half-measure.

In any case, I say power to them. This is one of the better female costume designs in the wild right now. Captain Marvel stills tops the list, though.

I read the first twelve issues of Wonder Woman and I loved almost every issue. There's great stuff to be found in this series. My only complaint at this time (if you can even call it that) is that Wonder Woman is often sidelined in favor of exploring the Greek Gods' family drama. Other than that, it's great.

I've also been reading Batman and Robin (issues one through six). Some issues were lacking, in my opinion, but I really enjoyed the relationship between Bruce and Damian and how it changed and evolved with each issue. Solid work.

The new batgirl costume is fine, but why does she suddenly look like a teenager?

What is really more practical about the new costume? It doesn't look like a huge variation to me.

The new batgirl costume is fine, but why does she suddenly look like a teenager?

On the one hand I would argue that plenty of twenty somethings look like that, but on the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if they're just going to quietly, gradually start portraying her as a younger twenty-something than they have been so far. From their point of view, it's probably something they should have done from the start of the New 52, but they were too busy trying to trick readers into thinking it wasn't a hard-reboot.

Dick, hilariously, is supposed to be 21 in the New 52 (he was 16 when he became Robin five years ago). So Barbara should be around the same and will likely be portrayed as such. 21 certainly fits that art.

Really, since it ended up being a hard reboot anyway (despite what we were told at the beginning), if it wasn't for Damian and Jason Todd, and Tim, I might have advocated for de-aging both Dick and Barbara to their teenage years and making Dick Robin again in the New 52. They chose not to because it would have meant writing out some great characters.

Now, though, as we move further away from the reboot and the amount of time that's passed becomes squishier and squisier, they're going to have to use that squishy timeline to quietly de-age Dick and Barbara, because at this rate they (Dick especially) are going to seem as old as Batman.
