After 30 years, Namco Bandai is ready to unveil "the next evolution" of Pac-Man.

The publisher sent out an invite for an E3 event in which it will show off, for the first time, the next Pac-Man game. The title will be introduced by former Marvel CEO Avi Arad, who is now executive advisor for Namco Bandai.

What's the next step in Pac-Man's evolution? Well, he's gotten a mate, had a baby, grew legs, learned to jump, teamed up with other Pac-Men… I've got nothing. Clearly my vision for Pac-Man's future isn't as broad as Namco Bandai's. Hang tight, because the June E3 reveal is just over a month away.

Let's hope it doesn't suck.

I predict a Pac-Man game for the 3DS.

I fear Pac-Man: Act Zero.

They're going to turn it into a FPS.

I truly hope not.

I've never cared for Pac-Man's 3-D outings...but PM: CE was fantastic fun.

Absolutely. Championship Edition was a lot fun. I still play it from time to time.

Pac-Mania back in 1987 blew my mind when I went to the arcade at 9 years old and saw my favorite character in a 3D isometric world.

Could Arad's secret project be a Pac-Man movie? I remember Crystal Sky Pictures bought the rights to a film awhile ago.

It seemed to be some kind of... man.

Some kind of... pac... man.

:hehe:

I sincerely hope no one tries to make a Pac-Man movie. :csad:

Ugh.... looks nothing more than just a stupid party game.

And they're only twelve years behind the first Mario Party.

I have placed a moratorium on buying anything with the words "party" or "sports" in the title.

That's how you celebrate Pac-Man's 30th? Really? :(

Namco should stop making Pac games before they embarrass him further and just let Nintendo put him into Smash Bros.

UPDATE... that wasn't the big announcement Arad was there to make. He was there to announce and show the trailer for.....

A 3D Pac-Man TV show. No, i'm not joking.

EDIT: It actually looks better then it sounds. Skip to around 5:40. [YT]4JuvXMpWxH4[/YT]
Looks like a harmless kids show to me.

I want my Pac-Man wearing brown boots and a fedora. No exceptions. :argh:

Looks like the show has gotten picked up.
In the early 1980s, there was a Pac-Man cartoon. In 2012, Namco Bandai now says, there will be a new one.

Set in Pac-Land, the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon was more of a Pac-Man sitcom with Pac-Man, his wife Pepper and their baby Pac-Baby. The show lasted two years, going off the air as Pac-Man fever began to wane.

According to Namco Bandai's Japanese website, a 26 episode 3D Pac-Man television series will be debuting in 2012. This is most likely the new animated series that Marvel exec Avi Arad is developing in which Pac-Man is a high school student who has to save the world with the help of his four ghost friends, Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. The cartoon was made public at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles last month.

"We wanted to keep Pac-Man the same lovable guy he has always been, but (put him) in the 21st century," Arad said in June. "We (also) wanted to talk about real stories and … see how they can relate to our lives, being in high school and being a teenager. At the end of the day, it's the story of a reluctant hero."

This year marks the game's 30th anniversary.
