The legacy Final Fantasy series comes to additional platforms.

FF-Legacy-XBO-Switch_09-13-18.jpg

Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age are coming to Xbox One and Switch in 2019, Square Enix announced. All four titles are currently available for PlayStation 4.

Here is an overview of each game, via Square Enix:

Final Fantasy VII

The game that not only revolutionized the way in which videogames are both created and talked about, but also what they can represent. Final Fantasy VII changed the face of gaming back when originally released, going on to inspire an entire generation of Final Fantasy fans. We’re bringing the original Final Fantasy VII to both Nintendo Switch and Xbox One!

The story starts in Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Company, where the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE.

AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Company, an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra’s elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor.

Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Company?

Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IX tells a grand story of love, war and betrayal.

Zidane and the Tantalus Theater Troupe have kidnapped Princess Garnet, the heir of Alexandria.

To their surprise, however, the princess herself yearned to escape the castle.

Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, and a colorful cast of misfits band together with Zidane and set out on an unforgettable journey.

Meeting unforgettable characters like Vivi and Quina along the way, they learn about themselves, the secrets of the Crystal, and a malevolent force that threatens to destroy their world.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster

The only thing better than picking up a Final Fantasy game is picking up two!

Final Fantasy X absolutely lit up the sixth generation of consoles with stunning production values, including gorgeous graphics, a stunning soundtrack and a moving story.

Final Fantasy X tells the story of a star blitzball player, Tidus, who journeys with a young and beautiful summoner named Yuna on her quest to save the world of Spira from an endless cycle of destruction wrought by the colossal menace Sin.

Final Fantasy X-2 returns to the world of Spira two years after the beginning of the Eternal Calm. Having been shown a mysterious but familiar image in a sphere, Yuna becomes a Sphere Hunter and along with her companions Rikku and Paine, embarks on a quest around the world to find the answers to the mystery within.

Two of the greatest RPGs of their generation have been completely remastered to match modern standards, and Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is the perfect way to experience both of these titles one after the other.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age improves upon the 2006 classic Final Fantasy XII, now more beautiful and easier to play than ever.

The high-definition remaster introduces several modern advancements, including reconstructed battle design and a revamped job system.

With newly implemented modern advancements, as well as stark visual and sound improvements in true HD for the first time, players both returning and new to the game will experience a grand adventure that spans the world of Ivalice in an entirely fresh and improved way.

Enter an era of war within the world of Ivalice. The small kingdom of Dalmasca, conquered by the Archadian Empire, is left in ruin and uncertainty.

Princess Ashe, the one and only heir to the throne, devotes herself to the resistance to liberate her country.

Vaan, a young man who lost his family in the war, dreams of flying freely in the skies.

In a fight for freedom and fallen royalty, join these unlikely allies and their companions as they embark on a heroic adventure to free their homeland.

Wow. I didn't realise they were remaking so many of the games. Can't wait to relive them all. Are they doing VIII too?

They're not necessarily getting remade (with the exception of FFVII), but they have already gotten HD remasters. Looking forward to getting them on my Switch. As for VIII, there have been no word as to why that game hasn't gotten a remaster yet. Now, I would love a remake of VI someday too. And with those games coming to the Switch, fingers crossed the Kingdom Hearts games and the Secret of Mana remake will make their way as well...

I'll have re look aginbut thoughyt the put it out on psn but I'm bit tired this weekend so I may be off.

ok I re looked it up so the last time anything was done on VIII it's was for pc . everything esle was reference to it in every other game including dissida adding stage from it . >>: final fantasy VIII on Siliconera

they should really release all of the FF games for the current consoles, even if they're not remastered or remade.

they could do a classic collection of the 1st 6 games ( or break it up into 2 collections, like the Megaman Collections ). and then release the rest of the games separately.

and it's good the older FF games are coming to Xbox. hope that bodes well for the future and the VII Remake gets released on Xbox, too.

Nomura: ‘Various developments being considered to accompany Final Fantasy VII Remake’
Published 14 hours ago. 197 comments.
"If we can manage to do something about the Compilation titles..."

FF7R_11-06-18.jpg

At a closed event for The World Ends with You: Final Remix held on October 30, producer Tetsuya Nomura answered various fan questions. One of them was simply, “I want to play Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII again!”

Nomura responded, “Not everyone may know this, but I’m remaking Final Fantasy VII… (laughs). Right now I’m concentrating on Kingdom Hearts III, but when that’s finished, VII will be where I head next. I’m thinking about ideas regarding the remake’s release—I even spoke to producer Kitase about it today. All of us old-timers are considering various developments in regards to what accompanies the remake. Like if we can manage to do something about the Compilation [of Final Fantasy VII] titles too. But for the time being, please wait for VII‘s turn to come.”

Nomura is the director of both Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake. The former was announced at E3 2013 and will finally be released in January 2019. The latter was announced at E3 2015 and is without a release date. The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII mentioned by Nomura is a series of titles set in the world of Final Fantasy VII, including the mobile game Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, PlayStation 2 game Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, PSP game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, and more. It seems that Nomura is suggesting there may be some sort of resurgence of these titles with the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PlayStation 4.

Thanks, Famitsu.

is a role-playing game, developed by Square Enix and Tose, that was originally released in 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita—which was later ported to Windows. The game is a spin-off based on the popular Final Fantasy series that even features characters from other entries in the series.

Back in September, Square Enix announced that they were releasing quite a bunch of Final Fantasytitles for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam, and today World of Final Fantasyhas become available for the Switch and Xbox One in the form of World of Final Fantasy Maxima.

World of Final Fantasy Maxima is pretty much the same game as the one released in 2016, the difference here is that it will be including the Maxima expansion, which features a new Avatar Change system that allows both of the game's protagonists to fight as some of the classic Champions from other Final Fantasy titles. This Maxima expansion is also available on the other platforms.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT downloadable content character Yuna from Final Fantasy X is now available. The character is available as a standalone purchase or as part of the Season Pass.

Here is an overview of the character, via Square Enix:

Originally appearing in Final Fantasy X, Yuna is a devoted and powerful summoner who embarks on a pilgrimage with Tidus and her other guardians. In Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, Yuna utilizes an impressive array of magical abilities, including a unique ability allowing her to summon her trustworthy companion, Valefor, to aid her in battle. Depending on Yuna’s status, Valefor will attack or defend.
