The Office Season 7 - - Part 1

Thoughts on the first ten minutes:

- Spader plays the straight man incredibly well. He is phenomenal.

- The rest....not to so much.

- They glossed over way too much. Angela's wedding, Robert's rise through Sabre, why the CEO is working in a small branch's conference room, etc.

- Jim would've been a better choice for manager. He fits into this current storyline better than Andy. Him playing off the strange and eccentric California would've made more sense. This feels like an attempt to cash in on The Hangover.

- Something like planking feels out of place without Michael.

Why is Gabe still there if his job is branch liason to the CEO if the CEO works in the office?

When did Kevin learn how to text?

I miss Michael :csad:

Also, emotional Pam is really annoying.

That was awesome. I was wrong but that was awesome.

Everything with Spader was awesome. Everything else, subpar. Andy didn't even feel like Andy. He felt like the generic guy from Outsourced with Andy's appearance. If they want to make it work with Andy they need to actually make Andy the manager (for both his good and bad qualities). They can't just make him a generic stock character. It's why Jim would've been a better choice. He fits the role they've put Andy into. Andy doesn't.

Actually, I thought it was a return to form. The Will Ferrell experiment didn't seem to work out out on the screen like it must have on paper, but I think that this was a pretty strong start.

I wanted to like it. Everything with Spader was great. Everything else just seemed like cliche stock characters and sitcom situations.

Still annoys me how stupid they have made Kevin.

Felt like everything from that season finale was building up to Jim taking over and for it to be Andy? Clearly a case of amping up the cast member with the big film career.

I love Andy as a character and love how schizophrenic they'd developed him when you compare where he is now to how he started. That said, I'm with Matt. That didn't even feel like the character we've grown to love.

Side note: Pam was absolutely adorable. She's always been cute, but she was especially so this episode.

You could say that or you could say that Andy is growing up.

Possible and it's great to see characters grow. Just look at Michael and how he grew up. But something felt off about Andy this week.

I think its gonna take awhile for Andy to be a suiting boss but I do see potential. Overall, not bad but rushed opening.

He's adjusting to being manager. Once he's gets the lay of the land he'll be back to his old self. Like he said before stuff around the office was not his problem he could be himself and chill out but it is his problem and until he learns how to handle that he won't be himself. We never saw Michael when he first started being manager he was probably the same way.

For what logical reason is Jim not the Manager right now?

For what logical reason is Jim not the Manager right now?

- Jim makes more money as a salesman than as a manager.
- Robert is a manipulative borderline personality (a hilarious one, incidentally) who would rather have a a regional manager he can push around and control rather than someone who could be smarter than him

I thought it should have been Darrell, personally.

I liked the season opener. Jenna Fishcer was a real standout as super-emotional "fat mom" Pam.

Had low expectations but thought it was a great episode.Everyone was funny tonight.

James Spader owned Robert California is such an awesome name and Jim should have been manager instead of Andy like said but I though the episode was good.

Concerning Gabe...

Everyone hates him, he's only in the background (thank god), and his character was even written out last year.

So, why do they think he needs to be there. Isn't he a waste of money for NBC?

I just watched it a second time...really liked it this go around.

It was very funny but it seemed rough because it is pretty much the transitional episode and they had to establish the new way of things.

James Spader was excellent. He was easily my choice since last season and I really enjoyed his first official episode. As the episode went on, I was getting wary, feeling they were going to make him a jerk character but frankly, in spite of his feelings towards certain members of the office, he still comes off pretty well.

Andy was a revelation. Throughout the episode, I struggled buying him
as the new manager but his final scene with California where he stood up for the 'Losers' was a very cool as it showed him take on that leadership role that I just couldn't see him as.

Final points:
-Kevin is now annoying. Not even funny annoying anymore, just annoying.
-Emotional Pam was cracking me up. Just how she spoke in such a soft voice and always seemed to think so negatively.
-Andy finding California's assessment of Gabe as Creed and Dwight nod in agreement was great.
-Andy asking Pam if this looked like a room full of losers and it pans to the group...everyone's got the goofiest looks on their faces, had me going for a bit.

Overall nice start.

I'm not sure I can get into this show anymore. It's sad because this has really been the most consistent laugh out loud show I've watched, ever. Ever since Jim and Pam got married their characters have been stale and cheesy but I could deal with it having Michael Scott there. Now that he's gone I don't think I can enjoy this show. After seeing the first ep I agree with this more.
