Comedy The Office (US)

My thought exactly. Nothing about this is exciting. The show was such a shell of its former self by the end. I mean, who could they even get for this? The only main cast member I could see coming back is Wilson. Is anyone really asking for that?

Just based on how the show ended with a lot of the characters going their separate ways, and also the stature certain actors have attained since the show ended, yeah, I would imagine it would be Dwight as the new lead and a mix of new faces and whoever's continued presence would be plausible.

Though the bit about looking for a new lead actor has me thinking either Rainn Wilson is a "No" or Dwight would've gotten demoted at some point, which is certainly in the realm of possibilities.

I mean, didn't they axe a potential spinoff centering around Dwight at the farm back in the last seasons of the show? I can't see Rainn Wilson doing this.

Regardless, something like this was inevitable. I just didn't think it would be this soon. The show will only have been off the air for five years and as Matt said, it lost a lot of steam by the end.

I have rewatched the final seasons and they actually have a fair amount of gold in them. Not as good as the earlier seasons but they aren't the dumpster fire I remember.

That being said...I don't see why do this. I mean I get why but...I'm good.

I think there was a bit of an uptick toward the end, mostly attributed to Greg Daniels actually having a presence in the writer's room again. But on the whole, I'd think of the final chapter sort of like I think of Arrow now. It's better than the show's absolute worst period, but it's not a full recovery.

I think the main thing to determine any level of interest I have in this will be casting. You land a lead that really excites me and I'll show up for at least episode 1, no matter how hesitant I am.

Hell, make Ricky Gervais an offer. When he appeared on this show, Brent was looking for a job stateside, wasn't he? Give him a Dunder Mifflin branch and let him run free. Can't hurt to ask.

I own all 9 seasons on DVD/Blu-Ray. I watch the entire series, from start to finish, at least once a year. My wife and I even used the theme song as our Recessional Song at our wedding. It's safe to say I absolutely LOVE this show...

But this "revival" is a f***ing awful idea.

Revivals are the in thing right now, but this one left on a good note so why come back?

Continuing after Carell left was already a bad idea but this one is even worse

"Hi, NBC? I won't sanction the idea of doing a reboot, but I'll gladly allow an animated series..."

^would be cool but wouldn't provide NBC numbers.

I don't see why they would reboot the dunder Mifflin office...

They can do so many different type of offices and explore many different markets out of paper.

Especially with the tech industry and so much juicy cool innovative stuff but also so much crazy stuff in the news. It could really divulge into something new and not tarnish anything of the first series by going a completely different route.

I watched the UK office when it came out but only started the US one recently. I’ve always loved Steve Carel but it has been an amazing show. I just can’t stop watching.

Been catching reruns on Comedy Central lately and I forgot just how unpleasant a presence Gabe was.

Like, I knew I hated him, but...

I don't need to see a reboot. The series finale was well done.

Been on an Office kick lately and am about ready to file a lawsuit with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for never giving Carell his (RIGHTFUL!) Emmy.

He should have won for his performance in Stress Relief alone but the fact that he lost out to Jim Parsons during his last two years on the show is ****ing disgusting.

Yeah it’s a damn shame Steve didn’t get one. Like you said Sawyer he rightfully deserved one.

I’m running through some of the last season, and it’s really confirming my theory that the main problem with the show post-Carell was Andy.

The stretch of episodes in S9 where he’s left Scranton are kind of... fine? Meanwhile the stuff where he’s regional manager is borderline unbearable.

There are some good moments post-Carell, especially the Robert California stuff and a good deal of season 9. But it would have been best if they ended the show when Carell left. In hindsight, they should have just made Dwight the regional manager after Michael left but they decided to give it to Andy because of Ed Helms's success with the Hangover franchise at the time. I can see why they did it but it just wasn't the same in season 8. At least there was a bit of course correction on the final season.

It could’ve been just as big a mess as what we got, but I think the best play would’ve been, rather than bringing in a new weirdo (Robert California) or molding a pre-existing character into a “New Michael” (Andy), they should’ve made the new boss the straight man to the craziness that has accumulated after so many years of Michael Scott.
