Sponsored by: The Marvel Stupid Question Thread and Ovaltine.

So what I did was ask some more prominent members of the Hype comic boards what they would recommend to other geeks this Christmas. Here is a look at what they brought to the table:

Now that I have gotten a sleek looking Notebook to carry around and impress the ladies with, I find myself strangely attracted to Marvel's comics on computer disk stuff. Seeing as they are discontinuing the line, grabbing what's already there would be good to have, cuz it will therefore be rare later (if you're into that sorta thing) plus, it saves me the time and money of having to track down every issue of whatever character it's about. So, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Captain America on my smexy new Notebook would be teh awesome for Christmas.

The entire series so far of the 4400 on DVD. This show was Heroes before there was Heroes, and quite frankly, it's a bit better if you ask me. I've only seen season one, but I loved it. I want all four seasons on DVD.

Though I'll probably never find the will and or cash to buy a bust and or Statue, if somebody were willing to give me one, I would be much appreciative. One of these if possible.

And, an iPhone. Cuz I'm sick of carrying around an MP3 player, a phone, and nude pictures of various porn stars. Time to put all that s**t together.

Heroes Season 1 box set.

Boxes, bags and backings (I never have enough).

Gamer centric T-shirts (LFG, Has anyone seen my corpse? etc)

Spidey 3 DVD - Letterbox, of course.

Watchmen TPB or issues to get caught up for the movie.

Annihilation TPB.

And of course, for the true loser, the Black Cat bust!

I'm sure I can think of more.

The Escapists Hardcover- Collecting the Brian K. Vaughan penned mini-series based sort of on Michael Chabon's Pultizer Prize Winning Novel THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY one of the best mini's of this year, I'll let BKV sell it to you.

THE ESCAPISTS: I hate to shill my own stuff in lieu of the Top Five picks, and I haven't done it since PRIDE OF BAGHDAD, but that should let you know how strongly I feel about this graphic novel. Almost everyone who read this miniseries when it first came out was kind enough to say that it was far and away the best thing I'd ever written, but unfortunately, that was an audience of like six people.

Dark Horse is looking to change that by releasing this gorgeous collection with an incredible new Alex Ross painting. It's 160 pages of hardcover goodness for less than twenty bucks. This has got some of my favorite artwork of anything I've ever worked on thanks to collaborators like Philip Bond, Steve Rolston, Jason Shawn Alexander, and Eduardo Barreto, with original covers from Frank Miller, John Cassaday, James Jean, Paul Pope and Brian Bolland. Holy ****, right?

This is a 100% self-contained modern-day story that's totally accessible to you poor bastards who still haven't read THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY, but for you Chabon fans out there, Michael wrote an ALL-NEW SHORT STORY checking in on an elderly Sam Clay as an introduction to this collection. It's pretty much the greatest thing of all time.

I think some stores got this book in last week, and some will get it in this week, but too many stores may not have ordered any at all. So if (and only if!) your friendly neighborhood retailer refuses to help get you a copy, you can always order online at a discount from places like Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Escapists-Brian-K-Vaughan/dp/1593078315

Sorry again to plug so hard, but for those of you who've been nice enough to keep asking what new projects I'm going to tackle now that Y: THE LAST MAN is just about over, The Escapists is everything I love about life and comics distilled into one story, so I hope it will tide you over until I bore you again with my next big announcement.

Happy Holidays,
BKV

For the gamers out there:

If you haven't gotten, or not on planning on getting Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect or The Orange Box, you might as well sell your gaming system right now.

With the movie coming out soon, I suggest you all go and pick up a copy of I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, and then pick up Eclipse Comics I Am Legend adaptation by the master of horror Steve Niles. It's currently being reprinted by IDW.

Everyone seems to be recommending the Heroes Season 1 DVD and by all means, ask for it, but what you really need to do is go and pick up House Seasons 1-3. Probably in my humblest of opinions, the best, funniest, most entertaining and engaging television show right now.

X-Men Vol.1 Supernovas by Mike Carey with art by Chris Bachalo and Humberto Ramos. Forget Whedon and Astonishing, Mike Carey is single handedly reinventing the X-Men franchise and bringing sexy back alongside Chris Bachalo. I had lost faith in the X-Men, but Mike Carey has made me a believer. Also, X-Factor: The Longest Night, Life and Death Matters and Many Lives of Madrox for another great X-fix.

If you didn't get it last year, you need to get Darwyn Cooke's The New Frontier Absolute Edition. Like now, for realz. Also check out The Spirit

Venture Brothers Seasons 1 and 2: It's funny, buy it and laugh.

God, that thing looks sexy, even with an Alex Ross cover.

If I didn't own the issues, I'd be all over it. Carey's X-Men is good stuff.

I actually love the Alex Ross cover. Even if I've seen him do the same pose with about 30 other heroes. It's fantastic. And a brand new short story by Michael Chabon too? Damn. It's what every comic geek needs.

And I read the trade at Borders the other day for X-Men. I bought it, and wrapped it under the tree for myself.

Wait, why is Brooks' name on the cover of the Supernovas trade?

I can testify that a bust would be a great Christmas present for a comic geek. I bought myself two from Bowen just the other day, in fact. :)

You'll probably have to hunt a bit for it. That bust is sold out at Bowen's website.

That's the same as saying a comic is sold out at Diamond. Bowen is the manufacturer and distributor; their being sold out just means that all of the statues they produced are out in circulation amongst the retailers. You could still find one on eBay or through one of the retailers who carries them. The retailers are usually cheaper, too. I only ordered my two busts through Bowen because one was a Bowen exclusive and the other hasn't gone out to retailers just yet. Bowen even gives you links to a bunch of affiliated retailers on their website. All you gotta do is search a bit.

The shops in my area aren't big on stocking busts or statues. And if it's sold out at the manufacturer/distributor level, that means I can expect a heavy bidding war on eBay. It's Christmastime. I gotta pass on that kind of stuff for now.

There are websites that sell statues rather than auctioning them. Check that list of links on Bowen's site.

Oh, I didn't know that. I'll check it out when I get home.

Soon I Will Be Invicible by Austin Grossman
http://www.amazon.com/Soon-Will-Be-...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197586711&sr=1-1

Great novel.Hilarious and probably one of the best takes on superheroes and supervillains in a novel.

Ultimates 2 Hardcover

The Ultimateverse has had it's share of duds but this is the best thing to come out of the Ultimate line.Totally stand alone and one hell of a reading experience.

I take it all back, Corpy. You've so totally paid your tribute today. :o

And that's why I love you. And I hate that I love you. So watch out when you start your car. :cmad:

I would recommend, if you love your fellow comic book lover, just give them a several hundred dollar gift certificate to a local comic book shop.

You make it sound like you're implying something erotic, Eli. :o
