The Official "DC dosent really know what they're doing, do they?" thread

Exactly. She'd grown beyond needing a father figure to emulate, so the motivation for trusting Slade (which is stupid on any level) was a sham. The fact that she killed people while drugged mitigates that offense, but then it was dashed by the fact that immediately after her head cleared, she tried to kill Slade for... making her kill. Beechen and Johns were just astonishingly bad with Cassandra. There's no two ways about it. Everything they did was crappy and whenever they tried to fix something, they just made it worse. :o

And now we have Beechen handling Cassandra Cain, once again.

By now, it's ridiculously hard to justify these changes in her character, if at all possible. To fix them would require arguably nothing short of retcons (even retconning retcons) or, more preferably, outright ignoring what has happened before.

Hmm... it seems DC is pretending more of their stupid ideas no longer exist.

"52 Aftermath: Crime Bible: Five Lessons in Blood"

is now called

"The Question: Five Books of Blood"

Anyone else remember the interview where Rucka was pissed off about the question not being in the title and the title being ridiculously long without acutally having any information about the story in it.

Given how poorly the mini itself sold, I'm not surprised they decided to market the trade differently. I'll probably pick that up at some point. I'll have to figure out some way to slog through the Batwoman portions.

Another thing that DC is ****ing up on are lower tier characters who really could sell comics....if they were paid attention to....

When Mark Waid says that he and geoff johns wanted to write nightwing, and werent allowed....what does that say? Dick Grayson, the first sidekick in comics, one of the best leaders in the DCU gets, at best for the past three years, marv wolfman, who, no offense, has seen better days no matter how decent he still is, and peter tomasi, a guy who just got off from being more of an editor so he really isnt as well known as other writers?

They still have no plans for Aquaman...continually saying "we have to see what the fans want"....that problem could be solved with a SIMPLE ONLINE POLL....

Hawkman gets tossed aside for Hawkgirl, no surprise how that turned out, Flash has yet to really bounce back..and....damn...say what you will about marvel....but at least they pay attention to character who could be elevated to the next level...

Honestly, I await the day when we have two new EIC's. It certainly can't get much worse at this point than Didio and Joey Q.

Sigh.

Yes...this whole era of "big event after big event, lets kill off heroes and revive others constantly" has got to end....

The DCU is a shambles and I place the blame for it squarely on Infinite Crisis (that's where it all began, anyway).

Vertigo is still pretty ****ing awesome, though.

IC is truly where it all started. Thing is, the build up was beautiful. Didio's DC from 2003-2005 was pretty good for the most part. Then, IC was a disappointment, with Phil Jimenez needing extra artists, and a complicated story.

Say what you will about marvel, at least they're smart enough to know that if they're gonna ****e out another bloated big event, they keep the story pretty damn simple

And, really, while I was thoroughly disappointed with Civil War, I'm really loving the aftermath of it.

exactly. They didnt have to bring back a confusing concept alot of people didnt like. They didnt have to jump things a whole year...they had a plan and stuck with it....

As much as Marvel ****ed up my fav spidey I love a lot of what they're doing.Who ever thought Iron Fist would be of their best books?

I'm new to all this, please be nice.

But, I just don't see DC catching up with Marvel in epic movies anytime soon* because well, Superman Returns didn't do anything too great and, Batman Begins is the only thing so far good going for it.

*Soon= Until July 2008. :P

Well, its the same comics wise Corey. DC is a ****ing mess now. Nothing compared to the Gold Marvel is putting out. Though TDK may help them get there **** together.

Its a complete mess. Im completely hating Morrison's Batman ongoing, and I was dissappointed by Countdown.

Where as Marvel has the best book on the market(Currently) in Captain America.

At least VERTIGO remains VERTIGO.

With House of Mystery and Madame Xanadu, Vertigo actually feels more like it did when it was starting out, with a strong sense of mysticism to it. As much as I like series like 100 Bullets and Scalped, I'm glad that that supernatural focus has returned somewhat to Vertigo. It feels comfortable and familiar when practically everything else at DC is either an uncomfortable throwback or a new idea that's still struggling to figure out how to work.

You said, "It's the same comics wise." I assumed you meant the comics. But no, Hulk wasn't gold. It was good, but not gold.

I would wager the best two and only two on goings i read at DC, Trinity and Superman/Batman, are there best books. Everything else really just can't seem to grab my attention or just plain old sucks.

Superman/Batman certainly is. Trinity isn't even worth buying. At least Countdown had that "are you f***ing serious!?" factor going for it.

Im enjoying it but only cause i like seeing Bats and Supes in the same book togethor and if i can get a double dose of that, then why not.

Excluding Fables, I'd throw in

- JSA
- Booster Gold.
- Dini's run on Detective Comics
- Action Comics
- Green Lantern Corps

I'd say Simon Dark, but the last few issues have slowed down quite a bit, at least for me.

Booster Gold and Action Comics both suck.

DC is quickly losing writers that are any good. The guy who wrote Blue Beetle left to focus on TV, Dixon was fired/forced out, Rucka is splitting his time between companies, Kelly is also splitting his time between companies and Morrison is going to focus on Vertigo once Final Crisis wraps up. Everyone else DC has is either struggling with mediocrity (Johns), struggling not to lose whatever edge he once had (Winick) or outright sucking (everyone else). Pretty soon, it'll be up to Simone to save DC.

Booster Gold and Action Comics both suck.

I was enjoying Booster Gold, but it seems the arc having Blue Beetle come back has been dragging along more than the other story lines. Its not bad, but I miss seeing historical moments in DC in single issues and Booster doing work behind the curtains to ensure it stayed that way.

Action Comics has picked up as of late. I was on board when Johns started with Donner and wasn't too fond of it, until Gary Frank jumped on board as artist and they reconned the Legion into Superman's life. Its been really good since then, especially as of recent with the origin of Toyman and Brainic.

Green Lantern has been consistently good. Like the Batman had said, I think it was messed up for DC to make a Hawkgirl monthly instead of Hawkman. It could have been a move to draw more of a female audience, but I thought the Hawkman series was good and not broken.

For every good book, there is always a few that aren't on the same level.
