The Official Flash thread

Bart should probably take back the mantle. I mean when they finally got him working as the flash, they kick him to the curb and replace him with daddy wally.

Well you're entitled to your opinion......

Back when Wally started out to his run of the Flash; a lot of readers didn't take to him as well. But it took a few years for him to be the top Flash (aside from Barry)

Give Bart a chance to increase his popularity creds and before you know it, he's back in the scarlet cowl again.

I hold that against Bilson & DeMeo, myself. Guggenheim was starting to figure out ways to make him work.

Really, Bart just shouldn't have ever been the Flash in the first place. DiDio dicked the fans around big time on that one.

Bart wasn't ready to be the Flash, I guess that was really the point of his story arc.

But none of the writers seems to get that or work towards that as a story goal.

As open minded I tried to be with Bart as the Flash.....I never quite took to the idea as much. I think Bart needs more exposure as both a character, an alter ego (Bart Allen) and then his return as a hero. Much the same way how Wally was done when his series came out.
It took writers a few years to properly mold Wally as his own man. Even having him being selfish; a jerk; pompous; insecure; horny; womanizer; etc, etc....before he came to be the Flash who mainlined the Speed Force.

I'm not saying that the idea of Bart was wrong, I know that the time will come to pass when Wally will again to pass the mantle to Bart......(besides I like the idea of having Flash's secret identity to be in honor of the 2nd Flash: Barry Allen--Bart is short for for that) but now that Bart had a chance to experience what it meant to be THE Flash (again) *see sins of youth (ugh) Maybe when DC restarts the Flash line, they can have Bart a little more seasoned and better equipped to take on the Rogues again.

Guggenheim was just as lousy on Flash as Bilson and DeMeo. That book dying was long overdue. It's just a shame we got a poor excuse for a Wally book as a result.

Bart as the Flash could have worked. It really, really could have. There were far, far worser OYL ideas that are still limping along to this day, some even picking up steam.

But as the Lightning Saga (which sucked, as I'm sure we're in agreement with) would come to show, DC had their hands hovering over the reset button from day one.

How could it have lasted, if the guys in charge never put any effort nor any belief into making it last?

I blame Meltzer for the Lightning Saga's mediocrity. His writing style and Johns' just didn't seem to be very compatable and Meltzer can't write action to save his life apparently judging from his JLA run.

Agreed. I figured we'd finally be getting the mindblowingly awesome Flash book of pre-Infinite Crisis...and we got what? The Incredibles, minus Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee and a compelling plot and visual appeal.

What's worse than Bart being alive?

Wally having hyperaged kids?

The boy being named Jai, instead of, let's just say, Barry?

The kids being two different ages?

The boy having strength?

the flash book is now a failure imo. it has lost so much momentum. I'm really pissed off with waid..he could've tied up some loose ends from johns run.(Top anyone?)

Nobody gives a **** about Top, apparently, not even Johns does.

And that was resolved anyway when Captain Cold froze and shattered his ass anyway.

IMO, I think waid has better things to do then patch up other people's storylines.

And as much as I love Wally, and Linda....I don't quite get how twins can be born yet one looks yearsolder then the other.....christ, you would think the writers that be can keep something straight like the basics of children.
kids with powers....got it.
kids that are twins...got it.
kids that are born on the same day yet looks a few years apart.....
(over the head....DON'T got it)

AGREED!

They look the same age to me.

Girls mature faster than boys, anyway.

Also, the twins age at sporadic bursts. There's no actual way of telling how physically old one of them is, much less if they're even at the same age as each other still. One of them could conceivably and literally be older than the other.

NRAMA: We talked to him yesterday, and he seemed pretty enthusiastic about the title. But just to clarify, you made the decision to leave because of time constraints?

MW: Yeah. Of course, it would have been a harder decision to make had the general reaction to my return to Flash been a little more positive. [laughs]

NRAMA: That made it easier to choose what had to give, huh?

MW: I don't know. You know, I just think, in retrospect, the stars were not in alignment in a lot of ways. I kind of knew we were in trouble right off the bat when I so loved Daniel Acuna's artwork. I so loved it. And I was so unprepared for the insane volume of hatred from the online community about how much they just despised his work on the title. I knew at that point, I thought, "Oh god, we're in trouble. Once more, the online community has me questioning what I thought was good." Which I shouldn't let happen, but it's hard not to do when the volume is that loud.

And at this moment in time, I just ... in terms of superhero work, I feel frozen. I kind of... I feel like I'm momentarily out of step with what fandom wants because I don't get it. The same voices that are screaming that we gave Flash a wife and kids and family, because they say that's not what Flash is, are the same people who are screaming that they've broken up Mary Jane and Peter Parker. "How dare you take his family away!" I'm like, wait! Wait! What? Which way is it? So... growth and change good... or growth and change bad?

You bastards.:cmad:

I hate to agree, but the books seems to have gone down since Johns left. Waid did an awesome job on his first run on the Flash, and Johns did a great job too by actually making the Rogues a threat along the lines of Batman's Rogue gallery.

Wally West coming back as a family man with children that were aged... I don't know what to think of it. I think DC may lower Wally's character in favor for a Flash to come back... Barry Allen. We haven't seen the Legion of Super Heroes since the Lighting Saga and for them to appear and disappear without explaining their plans, I think the Legion will appear at Final Crisis and unleash Barry Allen from the lighting rod AFTER Wally makes his sacrifice in Final Crisis. And it's fitting for Barry to take over the mantle of watching over Wally's family since he is Wally's uncle. Or the Legion could let Barry out of the rod and Barry will make a brief return, but sacrifice himself in the end to stop the Final Crisis.

I was surprised to see Waid not stick with the Flash, I had high expectations to see a 180 on the Flash books and become good again.

All I know is that I can't wait to read Johns' mini series this June , The Rogues Revenge.

Hey, I supported Wally and Linda's children and I support the idea of Peter and MJ having a kid. Always have, always will. Hell, the former was usually part of my justification for the latter.

It's GAH's fault Waid is leaving.:cmad:

Well I love Acuna's artwork and love Wally's kids.

I'm obviously not in the online community.
