Wally will probably get knocked down to a supporting character at best, and fans will have to rely on Titans for regular appearances. Sort of like Kyle and Green Lantern Corps, except plus the "supporting character at best" and minus "Johns ignoring the fact that he exists."

You tend to forget that Johns has a 60+ issue run on Wally's book plus various one-shots and minis that is considered one of the best runs on Wally's book. Johns has a full fledged understanding, love, and appreciation of Wally West unlike Kyle Rayner.

And there is also going to be two Justice League books. I doubt that Wally will be dropped from the Justice League being replaced by Barry when there are two Justice League books.

So along with Justice League of America (which has had no sign of dropping Wally), Titans, and the new Flash book your assumption of Johns ignoring Wally (which isn't going to happen) and being reduced to nothing but a supporting character on one book written by freaking Winnick of all people is completely baseless.

Also, in another interesting note, in that interview I posted, when asked what he's most looking forward to about "Flash: Rebirth", Johns immediately responds with "returning to writing Wally West," which I thought was interesting.

Okay, so I've been reading up on Waid and Johns' Flash stuff, based on the recommendations that Anubis gave me a few pages back. And I've got to say, I am really unimpressed with Johns' run so far.

I have only read the first couple trades, but it seems more like a Rogues book with the Flash guest starring. Not that Johns doesn't do a solid job at writing the Rogues, but the book is called "The Flash." And anytime Johns does write him, he sounds more like a generic Flash, than Wally West--you could just as easily substitute Barry Allen into the book (which would probably explain Flash Rebirth). And honestly, I don't think the stories so far have been all that interesting, just kind of generic superhero vs. supervillain plots.

Contrast to that, I thought the Waid stories were excellent, the best easily being "The Return of Barry Allen," probably one of my favorite comic book stories of all time now. Unlike Johns, Waid really focuses on Wally's character and depicts his growth as both a superhero and a man. His relationship with Linda; with Bart and the other speedsters; his connection to the Speed Force and the new abilities he gains from it; his hang ups on trying to live up to Barry's legacy while also trying to preserve his own. The villains were never all that interesting, except for [blackout]Zoom[/blackout] in "Return of Barry Allen," and the stories kind of fizzled out after "Terminal Velocity," but that never really bothered me all that much. The real attraction to Waid's Flash, for me, was watching Wally develop and grow as a character.

So getting caught up on the Flash has kind of had the opposite effect; I wanted to read these older stories to prepare for Flash Rebirth. Now, I'm kind of dreading it.

Johns run will always be remembered for making the Rogues actual threats, or at the very least actually matter.

Yeah, I look at it this way: Waid refined Wally as a man, a husband, and a hero while Johns refined the Rogues and Keystone City itself. I mean, really, after Waid, there wasn't much left to do with Wally himself.

This is exactly why the arguments that Johns cares so much about Wally and wouldn't push him into obscurity irk me.

Johns did make a big centerpiece of his run those visits from Barry Allen on his way back through time to the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Has there been any word if/when they will be cancelling Wally's run on the Flash?

probably soon after Rebirth....Wally will be getting a new costume and superhero identity though

I have last months Flash and it seemed pretty resolved...he hung out with Roy and smacked around Queen Bee

DiDio said Wally's presence in Titans will be much bigger after Rebirth. So, basically, they're doing exactly what we figured they would: Barry's getting a new main Flash title while Wally gets shuffled off to a 2nd-tier team book.

it all sounds like a slap in the face to the kid who stepped up and became a respected hero only to be knocked back down to side kick status because the editors at DC are on a nostagia trip.

did he do something to garner your dislike or did he just bad touch you?
Nah, it's just this thing where people were a little disappointed with his post-OYL Green Arrow, and then a little disappointed with something else, and then they just kept *****ing and *****ing until it had snowballed into this big cloud of hate. He really hasn't been that bad. He hasn't been nearly as good as he used to be either, but he's not nearly as bad as an Adam Beechen, or a Bruce Jones.

Where was this stated?

Id partially agree....reason being is that no matter who has written Wally West, from a mental standpoint he has always tried to live up to Barry Allen....it's a big chunk of who he is

was it really that important to bring back Barry? Wally's been the Flash for about 20 yrs wearing the same costume. then all that crap replacing Wally for Bart, only to be killed off after a year and having Wally return (who is again being replaced). what's so great about Barry that he has to offer to the character that couldnt be done with the current, 20 year-long version? i think thats what bothers me the most about his return.

According to Dan DiDio, neither Wally nor Kyle has any identity without Barry and Hal, so that's why he's decided to bring them back. Wally and Kyle aren't priorities to him because of the aforementioned lack of identity. They're hanging on the coattails of Barry and Hal.
