According to Dan DiDio, neither Wally nor Kyle has any identity without Barry and Hal, so that's why he's decided to bring them back. Wally and Kyle aren't priorities to him because of the aforementioned lack of identity. They're hanging on the coattails of Barry and Hal.
i guess i just dont feel that way. like i said i have a lot of love for Wally, he was the Flash i was introduced to with Superman TAS. Green Lantern, since his return was unknown to me at the time and IC had Kyle evolved into Ion it was easier for me to accept- but it was only temporary.

Maybe it's my conspiracy theory thinking coming through...but I think DiDio is told by Time Warner what to do in some cases....

Probably. But not in this case. DiDio said in a DC Nation page a little while ago that bringing Hal and Barry back was always part of his agenda from the minute he took over as head of DC for the reasons I mentioned.

Oh, I don't feel that way either. DiDio is right that Wally and Kyle owe their beginnings to Barry and Hal, but I see that as something that enriches them. I wouldn't even mind Hal and Barry coming back if Wally and Kyle could keep their own titles. The GL franchise is enough to support two series; why not a third? Why not two Flash books? Treat them as equals instead of the "real" GL and Flash and "those other guys." It just seems like shuffling Wally and Kyle off to team books is a waste--although Tomasi, to his credit, is handling Kyle well in GLC.

How would people feel if someone other than Peter Parker was Spider-Man??? I think the idea of a mantle or legacy has as many pros as cons

Irrelevant. Peter Parker's always been Spider-Man. Hal and Barry weren't always the Green Lantern or the Flash. Bringing back the Silver Agers is just trading one set of fans' nostalgia for another, essentially.

It is....it just depends on where you jumped on board....what you said about having two GL titles(for Hal and Kyle)....you have Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps....what would you title the other one??

As a reader who grew up reading a Barry Allen Flash, I was 20 years old when he died in the original Crisis, and then got to read how his sidekick turned into a man, and became the "Flash".

To some extent, I understand what DiDio is saying, but Wally earned his identity over the last 20 years, so to that extent, I would say he's full of ****.

Having said that, my Flash reading days are over when the end the current series.

:yay:

So they're already over because the most recent issue was the last before Rebirth. ;)

I'm still gonna read Rebirth. I want to at least see how Wally goes out.

I was okay with the GL/Ion series running concurrently. But I wouldn't really care. Change Kyle's name, give him a different ring, whatever; I'd just like to read about him on a monthly basis. GLC covers that to some extent, but it's not really the same reading about him as one among many as it is reading about him in a solo title.

Wally's removal as the Flash is more upsetting to me because, unlike Kyle, Wally has a full-on, solidified connection to the Flash legacy. People have said Kyle's an outsider to the GL legacy and I can agree with that to some extent. I think he's made it his own, but he certainly wasn't "Green Lantern" in the same sense that Hal or even Alan was. But Wally earned his spot and has paid his dues and everything. Not only that, but he's been a great Flash. So it annoys me more to see him ousted than it did to see Kyle ousted.

"Kyle the Great."

I read that Wally is going to get a new costume once Barry returns. Has the costume been introduced yet?

No...probably not until either the end of 'Rebirth' or soon thereafter....I have an odd feeling it will be a little more complimentary to Wally West....

SDCC this past summer...Geoff Johns spotlight panel....Ethan Van Sciver showed up about halfway through and they talked about GL, Final Crisis, and Flash Rebirth....Johns said Wally would still be around and adopt a new hero persona

Didn't Dixon say that Warner Bros (which is the technical company that owns DC Comics) often forgets that they own a comic book company? Granted that these statements came before the Dark Knight and Iron Man were the huge successes they are now.

I agree with Corp that there can be three Green Lantern titles since it has become a very successful franchise for DC. Kyle deserves his own title along with Hal and the Corps.

^Well, maybe I'm going to be flamed for this, but I would not have minded a Blue Lantern serie around Kyle. different yet complementary. I think he deserves it, more than Hal being the symbol of Hope, IMO. And it would allow the character to return to his roots : penciller in space. That would be fine for me.
In the mean time I am not sure there is enough place for 3 series because the readers of GLC would follow Kyle in his new serie and GLC would drop, wouldn't it ?

To some very very far extent I understand what didio says too , but .... wait ..... ... ... no, in fact I'm not sure I understand. I agree with you : Wally earned the identity of the Flash. I grew up reading Barry's stories and I always have a soft spot for him, and I like him a lot, but come on, Wally earned it, deserves it, and IS the flash now. I remember Weather Wizard, on the bridge between Central City and Keystone City, during the "Thinker" arc, saying something similar to what you wrote : "the kid is really the Flash now." or something like this. and of course ... written by G.Johns himself.
I'm against the return of Barry allen.

I'd be down for a Blue Lantern series with Kyle.

Also, Barry's return has sort of already been tainted for me by Rogues Revenge, where the Rogues seem to indicate that Wally wasn't really a "serious" hero. They basically take Wally for granted, but when they hear word of Barry's return, their butts practically clench into mini-black holes, they're so worried. So, apparently, Wally's time as the Flash was little more than a joke to his villains, who are now terrified because the "real" Flash is coming back. :o

I didn't see it quite so extreme....they knew the Flash was a different person at one point, and even Cold said that Wally was a legit threat to them, but he said that "the one before" is a whole other level of pain in the ass....

maybe Kyle Rayner and Wally West should start their own super group and call it "We're Heroes too, Dammit!!!"

No, it's just the Titans now. Nightwing, Wally, Red Arrow--all the me-toos of the hero trade are there. At least the Teen Titans have adolescence as a defining characteristic that separates them from their adult counterparts.

After the Sinestro Corps War, turning the Green Lantern franchise into a big hit for DC, there's plenty of room for a third book. The Superman franchise has three books and the're doing fine.
