but he said that "the one before" is a whole other level of pain in the ass....
That's exactly what Corp just said. And it's dumb. It's dumb, and it is so dishonest and just plain ****ing irritating that Johns pretends he has no idea why Wally fans are mad at him already. He spent a miniseries slagging off Wally through the Rogues' mouths.

Interesting way to put that, I do see your point

SDCC this past summer...Geoff Johns spotlight panel....Ethan Van Sciver showed up about halfway through and they talked about GL, Final Crisis, and Flash Rebirth....Johns said Wally would still be around and adopt a new hero persona

No, he only said a new costume.

Look, i understand that Hal has to be part of the Green Lantern mythos, the whole paralex thing was ******** to start with, but Barry as Flash? I dont get it. He went out like a champ, Leave it alone. Wally has done more than Barry ever has.

new costume = new hero....he's not going to be the Flash anymore....and there isn't any other mantle for him to take up....

I said this somewhere else a few days ago, He has a new costume that slightly differs from Barrys, so slight that when "wally fans" see it that we will actually prefer it/like it nore than Barry's.

Thats what Ethan V.S. told me.

He has worn a GL ring before, I know that....Id prefer a whole new thing, but if he ends up with the Corps, even for a short time, ok then

What I meant was, a character getting a new costume doesn't mean a new identity (Kyle Rayner), and a character sharing an identity doesn't mean one of them has to drop it.

You mean Superman: ******ed & Superman: ******eder ??

I'm sure plenty here would agree with me on this point, that as long as Barry's future stories are good, then I have no beef with him being back. The same way if Jason Todd's stories were actually good, then maybe he would serve better as alive than dead. And historically, Johns tells good stories with resurrected characters.

The problem lies of course with the treatment of legacy heroes being replaced by predecessors. We've seen disgruntled Connor Hawke fans, Linda Danvers fans, and yes Kyle fans. But I feel like the Flash dynasty could be different. Don't Flashes pride themselves in appearing in many many places in a short amount of time? I don't get why they both can't rock te scarlet pajamas. Their costumes are already different enough and they already appear together side by side in FC. But of course, this is what would happen if I were running DC.

Instead we are going to see Wally demoted and probably get less panel time than his damn annoying children.

Well, that's the problem, isn't it? DiDio doesn't view the characters as equals; he views Wally as the guy that came after the real Flash. Wally, Kyle, Connor, etc. fans are now getting s*** for preferring their version of a character over another, but DiDio and Johns are just doing exactly the same thing in the comics themselves. There's no reason for Barry to come back other than DiDio and Johns simply preferring him over other incarnations.

I don't consider it a problem....:oldrazz:....It does seem a bit ham handed to dismiss them as such though

You can't put the onus of Wally's absence completely on Barry. Bart and Jay have both been to the front of the Flash Franchise between COIE and now.

:gl: :gl: :gl:

Also because of stupid decisions on DiDio's part. Barry was originally supposed to come back in Infinite Crisis, but last-minute changes resulted in Bart being rushed into the role and Wally being shuffled off with a slapdash explanation about where he'd gone tacked on after the fact.

That's the thing, though. Not only do we already know from experience what Geoff Johns thinks of any character that took over from a Silver Ager, we also already know specifically what he thinks of Wally: he thinks Wally was a joke that nobody actually feared or respected in any way, that he was always just warming Barry's chair, and that he should just get out of the way and ride some ****ing pine for awhile now that big bad Barry's back.

How would people feel if someone other than Peter Parker was Spider-Man??? I think the idea of a mantle or legacy has as many pros as cons

I was pretty fine with it. Sure some of the clone bits kinda muffled stuff, but overall I was fine. Personally I'd take the clone over a character who had the last 20 years of his history erased just to do away with a marriage and keep an old lady around.

Geoff Johns initial run on Flash is what got me back to reading the title in the first place....to me he's the guy that made the Rogues a legitimate threat and characterized Wally as a great hero who was mindful of his legacy....Im not crazy about Barry coming back, but I'll deal with it...its probably because Im fond of both characters as opposed to GL where I am only fond of Hal and not Kyle

ok, i guess I get it with the older people want barry back, hal is the ultimate GL and went out in a ****** way, i get it, but whats with all the crazy ****s that want Matrix/Linda Danvers supergirl back, WTF??

Because she's an awesome character and was the Supergirl of the DCU, who formed great connections and history with many other characters, for a good seven years not even counting the time that she was just Matrix? Why should anyone need more reason than that?

I'm a little worried on account that Wally is the Flash I'm accustomed to, but considering that Johns wrote an excellent run on Wally's book that lasted for quite a while, I don't think it's going to be THAT bad.
